  1. About time they did a fastpack Klan. It was arguably her defining moment afterall. Dark bunny's looking good, though not as "wicked" as the colorless version with the glowing eyes did. I agree with a comment elsewhere that White Bunny would look better with a tinted white like the artwork suggests. The straight white is quite bland. Sculpt is still quite good. Nice to see Ranka in something different, though hopefully the face looks better from another angle. Excellent to here the red captain isn't an exclusive. the 100 dollar pricetag even at cons is killing me. In personal news, I've acquired my first Sheryls. They're keychains, but about 80% of my Frontier stuff is (mostly blind packs too, leading Klan to be my highest number character oddly enough). http://myfigurecollection.net/figure/12305 http://myfigurecollection.net/figure/18224 - though I have the red variant.
  2. Glad I'm not the only one that feels that way, as much as I love fanservice and "nose art". Though I find removing the bullet makes it look a lot less ridiculous (conversely, viewing it from the side with bullet is a million times worse ^_-).
  3. That's where they're from, and someone finally got a hold of them. So I've been meaning to redo those Bobby ringtones for awhile now.
  4. Interesting system. I may have to check out EVE sometime. Though the whole PvP thing reminds me of Starfleet Commander over on Facebook. I'm currently in diplomacy mode just so I can take a load off. It slows you down, but saves you from having to worry about fleetsaving.
  5. Thanks for the clearup. Though I remember someone making that argument on a home theatre board long ago. That, and my VCR and DVD inputs require different settings, DVD being somewhat darker. Much like how I have to boost contrast by 2 when playing my PS2 for example.
  6. Personally, I've found that analogu audio trumps digital, especially compressed audio like Dolby Digital. Digital wise, the PCM should be the best choice, since it's uncompressed. That's assuming no remixing has been done. Also, I'm not sure color correcting with the DVD is the best option. To my knowledge, each video essentials was tuned for that particular format. Hence the DVD would set the TV for optimal DVD viewing, not LD viewing. Though I suppose it's better than a poorly set up TV. Even if you can't work on the TV directly, you should be able to test it out on it. By all accounts, they shouldn't need much correction to begin with.
  7. Thanks for the beta heads up. Though I'm also having difficulty finding a key (only one that seems active is on Twitter, and I'm not joining that cess pool just for the slim chance they're still there). The game looks interesting as a Trek fan, though i generally don't pay for subscription games. Still, maybe I'll get a chance to try it. I do agree that all the ships should be in it. If you can have a Constitution class (long retired), you should be allowed to have an Excelsior (still seen in the TNG era).
  8. The cast off is a touch superfluous considering the already charged nature of the figure(that side shot with the round in place is just all kinds of suggestive wrong ; and that she's already wearing little anyway. The hearts are a cute touch I suppose, and do seem less "stripper-ish" than the stars. Kind of ironic that the censorship just makes it worse. It looks much better without the bullet in place, so I may have to get one now, seeing how pricey the previous castoff Sheryl has become. The face is throwing me a bit from some angles, so hopefully i can get it in person to really allow me to decide.
  9. Heard about this elsewhere and was looking for confirmation from another source. Sad to hear it. I've enjoyed the Raimi movies quite a bit, even the third one. Sure, the 3rd got ravaged by fans sore over Venom, but the first two in particular were fantastic films. It also seems to be a bit silly to reboot something that's not all that old. Do we really need a new take on the origin story? Still, sounds like they painted themselves into a corner. Oh well.
  10. To be honest, I like the more traditional Grace better. No glasses and undone hair just make her look like your average teen harem character. A sporty one even. "Did anyone grab the CM Ranka album? I think its really cute and am personally a fan of the Daruma Seminar jingle. I can imagine that the songs, most being CM jingles, must seem a bit strange if you havent seen the movie though ^^;" I'm rather fond of "Starlight Natto". They are rather cute, and "Sou da yo" is easily one of the better slow Ranka songs out there. Shame it's mostly jingles though after the near full album they gave Sheryl (even if most of the songs were sort of repetitive on that one).
  11. I think it's because CRTs are still the best overall technology for this sort of thing. CRTs only real drawback is it's size limitation (they can't really go any bigger than 40'', it's just impractical). They've long had the best blacks of any TV. The only thing close is a high end plasma. Their color is much more accurate than LCD usually (no matter how popular it is, LCD is a positively dredful looking technology). They also are better at displaying different resolutions since they aren't fixed res like a flat panel is. Hence you'd be seeing the LD at it's res, rather then artificially upscaled. There are such things as digital CRTs. My living room TV is one. There's even HD ones if you can find them. Plus you have an SD source on an SD television. A PC monitor is the last thing you'd want to be doing it on as well. They're quite different from TVs in terms of contrast and so on.
  12. I've been collecting anime figures for almost as long as I've been going to cons. Some I've had from before that. I have a modestly large collection, mostly cheap to mid range figures. The most expensive I have is an Alter Mitsuru Kirijo from Persona 3, which I got for 70 bucks. Unless you count purchased for me, than that would be the SoC Gunbuster. I rarely have the funds to splurge on the pricey ones, but sometimes I luck out. You can see the majority of my collection here http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/T...cid=0&tid=0 . Note that they don't have listed everything I own (mostly notably an Asuka bust I have). If anyone's on that site, feel free to friend me. Say that ain't all of it, Noriko. If that's your whole collection, I have a bigger Gunbuster toy collection than you, and that's just weird.
  13. Those three are looking pretty damn good so far. The gray and white works. Black Bunny sculpt looks particularly wicked.
  14. Interesting info from Wikipedia concerning players.
  15. Might we also note the passing of Hayao Kakizaki. Might I suggest finishing the steak he didn't get the chance to.
  16. Picked up the 1st volume of Macross the First at Kinokuniya last night for 9 bucks. I already had half of it thanks to owning Macross Ace 1, but oh well, it's still nice. I've never wanted to be a weird looking rabbit so much in my life thanks to that cover. Almost got the Sheryl Nome book, but was shot three bucks and it would've seemed odd passing up Minmay for Sheryl. Damn that stupid Alto figure I wound up getting from the blind pack earlier.
  17. I finally got GTA IV, myself (yeah, I don't buy games when they just come out, so I'm a little behind)
  18. The joy of timezones. Man, I've so blown my intentions of "live viewing". One day to be exact, and I miss it, never to return again. Missed all of November. Stupid foot...
  19. It could happen, as subs on a Japanese release aren't unheard of. I wouldn't bet money on it however.
  20. Glad it could be of use. The hardest part is selecting where to cut, hence the three cuts.
  21. Audio tracks don't take up that much space actually. At least in terms of video. Especially at the low bitrates most US anime companies use. I swear, it's digital barbarism over here. Too many of those "DVD can hold up to 4 hours" people. Like the FUNI 4 disc releases with 6-7 episodes a disc (which I've had argued to me is the same as 4 episodes on a DVD5, assuming for a DVD9, which is still a meagre gig an episode). That was my basic conclusion as well. It comes down to just how much of a heavy hand one prefers in the restoration. Aside from the EE and splice removal, Animeigo seems far less "messed with" was best as I can describe it. To each their own I guess. See, color restoration is the toughest part. In animation particularly, color is everything to how the show looks in my opinion. It's part of the art. So that's probably where are differences come from. The AMV is very encouraging for a LD rip. Though they probably are interlaced (the biggest problem the ADV version has, despite a higher bitrate). I'm not sure, as I never owned the format, ignorantly thinking it was digital in my youth, when I truly hated everythting digital. I'm a big fan of analog, though bringing it into the digital realm is a bit of a challenge. The "younger film" concept is somewhat valid, given the slightly better saturation in Robotech, which I'd assume came from an earlier master. It wouldn't be perfect though. Looking at what Animeigo shows as as before, they worked with a print, evidence by the red bloom, instead of the negative. It was probably the best they could get (I think I remember them saying the print was in better shape than the negative). Not all Hollywood releases pour it on. Glory looks excellent for example, and I've heard good things about Braveheart and Forrest Gump, etc. Then you have stuff like the Star Trek films. 4 abd 6 in particular had their grain structures ripped out. I posted a photo here where the crew looks like wax figures. Only 2 and maybe 1 looks decent, though 2 looks horribly blue.
  22. That be the problem then. The link is a script pointing to were the file is stored. It's not a direct link. You need to change your browser setting, or go into your temp folder to retrieve the file. If you're using Firefox, go to Tools>Options>Applications Tab, and change the settings on mp3 files from "open" to either "save" or "choose". That'll fix it. Conversely, open your download manager, select the file, and click "open containing folder".
  23. Are you right click saving them? I notice when I do that in Firefox, it wants to download the php directory. Be sure the browser is set to download, not open, Mp3s.
  24. With the release of the new film, I decided to cut some new ringtones. Here's three cuts from Universal Bunny and Pink Monsoon, as well as a chorus cut from Interstellar Flight. I plan to cut more eventually. 01._Universal_Bunny.mp3 01.Universal_Bunny.mp3 Universal_Bunny.mp3 02._pink_monsoon.mp3 02._pinkmonsoon.mp3 02.pink_monsoon.mp3 10_Seikan_Hikou.mp3
  25. I'm mostly talking about the TV series at the moment since comparing the Animeigo and Bandai sets suggest a lot of color discrepancy between the two. The new DVD set looks generally altered, and I was simply contemplating whether the LDs could fix it assuming their colors were more accurate... Auto-correction-from-SE-colours-to-GOUT-colour topic on OT.com I was intrigued by this as a possible way of correcting the colors in the Sleeping Beauty Bluray (though the different aspect ratio there will likely make that impossible)... As for not knowing the "correct scheme" don't worry, usually the restorers don't either. I'm sure I could help on the color possibly, since I seem to be the only one bothered by BV's meddling . You're talking to one of the main contributors to the Gunbuster thread here. Gunbuster's my favorite anime, so I'd like to think I'd know if the series were on bluray. The movie edit is on bluray, which is what you're linking to, but the six part OAV is only on DVD. I have both sets. You can get the movie set in the US for 60 bucks by the way, so that site's a rip off (but I'm guessing that's an import). According to the Gainax website, the DVD was released in January 2007, the BD in November 2008, so your point is still valid, your facts are just a little mixed up. The series was remastered on DVD in 2004. I don't think Diebuster is on BD as well, just the movie edit. I still say try a test rip with a lesser LD player first. I'm sure the AMV artist didn't use a high end Pioneer, so you might surprise yourself. Hell, i just did an ebay search for "Pioneer LD" and Macross II is floating around for 7 bucks a disc.
