  1. In all fairness, when the OT came out there was literally no competition to the designs. Fast forward 40 years, and the number of star fighter iterations has exploded exponentially. If you don't want to cut all ties and have someone like Syd Mead do a take on Star Wars, the margin for original designs gets smaller and smaller. And IMHO there were cool new designs in TFA like Kylo's shuttle and the troop transport, the new Stormtrooper just nails it, and BB-8 is genius. But I agree with you that these examples don't balance out the many not-so-great derivations, and that the ties to the OT are too strong. Design-wise, the prequels managed to transport the idea of another era, while the sequels are stuck one minute after ROTJ and sometimes go backwards from there.
  2. Excellent job on that Alex. I'm glad you didn't hide it in that shoebox armor.
  3. I stay away from clear coats as much as possible and use Gouache paints and chalks for panel lines and weathering. But large decals leave you no choice.
  4. Actually, they are little warning signs that pop up to recommend you not to stand in the line of fire:
  5. I will watch it next after finishing The Crown. Also, this looks promising:
  6. Leaked pic of the F-35F
  7. That's coming along real nicely. I'd give the decals a light dusting with grey to tie them in with your beautiful weathering.
  8. Was this already posted in the remake thread? Critiques are quite promising over here.
  9. The planes look a lot nicer than the watches IMO.
  10. You have to admit that recycling ideas from other genres (and even other SF stories) is the DNA of Star Wars from the very beginning.
  11. That's a nice backdrop you got there
  12. In the same vein, EVA's designer Ikuto Yamashita stated that his approach for the joints of the Metal Build re-design was thinking of mechanical muscles.
  13. That's a cool Ghost going on there! The sprue piece already had a wedge profile that fit right into the cutout for the windows. While it stuck in place I cut the right side angles with my little rotary saw, removed the clear piece and filed it into the final shape.
  14. Spicing up the Minerva with a clear cockpit.
  15. Don't know if anybody here is into Anderson's stylized insanity, but this looks like another must-see to me.
  16. Did some experimentation with backgrounds today and caught some interesting shots of my Trumpeter J-31 (which will remain a work in progress until someone releases a set of lo-viz PLAAF markings someday)
  17. With fighter design being bound to the stepped-on-shoebox look for the next generations, at least we get some interesting perspectives for airliners from Airbus. The configuration is currently tested with a 2 meter demonstrator (which also demonstrates that someone in the art department at Airbus is into anime).
  18. For the fans of the Discovery E: Round 2 has an upcoming 1/1000 kit with lighting option.
  19. Joscasle, the pics of your great work almost make me pick up my Hase Tomcat again. But I also have a Skyhawk incoming... what to do?! I'm on it and I also have a Minerva incoming....
  20. It doesn't help that the legs look pretty great on the garage kit. I'll admit that the HG kit does a pretty great job of capturing Kazumi Fujitas organic lines on the upper body.
  21. As an ardent Syd Mead fan, I take this thing as a much welcomed surprise
