Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim'

Actually, at one (early) point into this movie I thought "if this was an anime, it would be easier to bear"...- 1206 replies

The Jagd Doga is one of the classic designs, eventually they have to make a MG of it. It might take another couple of years, though. But usually this works in the benefit of the kit.

Maybe the Japanese are smarter in their taste for movies, especially if these movies rip off/pay homage to their core pop culture icons?- 1206 replies

One could argument that nothing says "F*ck you" to the rest of the world better than a gated community IN SPACE. The space station could be a work of art, but juxtaposed with the situation below, it becomes an obscenity.

3d Printing General Topic...
electric indigo replied to Ghost Train's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
A recent TV documentary showed german companies already printing dental fixtures and industrial turbine rotors in metal. Cost effectiveness beats traditional casting here, and you have even better control over the material properties. The rotors were quite large, about 40 cm diameter. -

If you're not filthy rich, paint your models yourself, and don't have unlimited display estate at your disposal, the choice is pretty obvious.

The colors are somewhat dubious in the concept art for MGS 4, but I also think that Kotobukiya went a bit overboard with the teal. The lighter metallic version seems a better match. http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120223015122/metalgear/images/d/d0/Ray.jpg Interestingly, the Three A Ray has similar, more saturated colors. If I get the Ray, I'll go with the MGS 2 colors.

I was of the same opinion when the kit first came out, but then I built mine almost straight out of the box. You can make or break the kit with the paint job, and things are certainly tricky here. Among others, I airbrushed a distinct shadow line along the armor, and the kit looks good enough for me. Accurizing the armor the way the japanese modeler did is a mountain of work that doesn't pay off IMO.

Interesting to see how the simple black triangle behind the canopy lengthens the cockpit and makes the nose appear sleeker and Tomcat-like. Good looking paintjob, but since you went for a worn look on the fuselage, the decals could be given a very light overspray of the hull color to tie them in more.

VF-4 1/72 'Skull Squadron' and 'Max Special' - Double
electric indigo replied to PetarB's topic in Model kits
Excellent finish on the Skull Squadron, but the Max & Milia versions really bring out the best of this design. I see you dropped the ventral fin like I did, this bird has too many wings already. Do your recent kits have a different canopy from the Milia aircraft?- 19 replies
