1. Get new friends? Seriously I agree with agent one's and Roy's comments Anime is hitting mainstream, and while there is a lot of crap, there is much of it which is very good and very adult in nature. Anybody who thinks Anime is for kids need to watch Grave of Fireflies or a miyazaki film, or note that Manga is by far and away the most highly sold printed material in Japan behind newspapers. 90% of the stories are not aimed at children by any means. Personally, my good friend is an independent music producer for a hip hop artist, and he loves Spirited away along with his girlfriend (even used a sample in one of his tracks). I introduced him to Nausicaa and he loved it. Most of my friends are twenty somethings living in east London, (a pretty happening place if I may say so) working diverse places such as bars and corpororations, and I have no problem getting them to watch good anime. And really, you shouldn't give two shxts about what people think in the end... your friends aren't going to abandon you because you watch anime. I learned that the long hard way.
2. WTF??!?! Who are you and what have you done with RF? I mean the real Roy Focker would have exorcized this topic within 10 seconds of it being posted.... and you just moved it?
3. as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror....
4. Nice. I hope ours will look that good when it's done. 324585 Well the one that is posted isn't really in the style of the Early 20th Century artists. It looks like someone just used markers to make it look "cool." I'm more excited to see this one which would be more authentic
5. Its mostly Pastel toned watercolours no? Art is a bit of a passion of mine, and its pretty cool to see two very separate interests of mine converging.
6. I don't think that the problem has been a spread of views. There have been more than plenty people who have written critical yet balanced viewpoints on the series over and over again and get ignored. Really its the people who are most critical about the series just ignore those intelligent points and attack the people who are more supportive of the series in its totality, and then that tends to define the argument when you get to page 8. Most of the intelligent posts are found in the first two pages before the trolls ruin any semblence of intelligence in the converstation.
7. Hah they are like gophers... when one gets banned, another gets posted Does a long series have to be boring? My favorite series is Helgensagen Vom Kosmenief (Legend of Galactic Heroes), a massive 110 episode series. There isn't a "low point" in the whole series when it suffers... it paces extremely well, and keeps the watcher continually engaged, while NOT being unrealistically set like a soap opera. Although its really a masterpiece and a standard that every Sci Fi anime series must aspire to. M7 was okay. I mean the first twenty or so when watched together sequentially like most of people on here do, looks boring. Watching it in Japan as a 14 year old in 1995 I didn't notice it that much, when it kicked into high gear in ep 25, then it really got good. When you watch it in its normal viewing conditions, you don't tend to notice the reused footage or other imperfections that much. You just want to hear the song from last week again, and see stuff explode. Its not the best series, and its far from the worse. Most of the criticism I find isn't that warranted.
8. 0, not O. What did I say? Funny after all these years I thought it was O not 0 322899 Common mistake. I only drag it out A. in good clean fun(see now. Well, it was funny to me, anyways...), or B. to annoy someone I have no respect for. Practice goes back to my first e-mail account. change I have a rather strong stubborn streak, so I wasn't going to be me#1245315 or whatever. And I sure wasn't changing my chosen name to bypass the issue. I pinned a 0 on the end so I could cut to the front of the line and skip ahead of me#1. ... And discovered names with a 0 on the end are rarely taken. So it's become a sort of dummy character for me. If my chosen name is taken, or too short(a common problem with JB. Stupid 3-character minimum name requirements... or is it stupid me for picking that as a regularly-used screen name?), I pin on a zero. 322909 I never took it as anything but a joke... I did look at it before I posted.... but its not really new, thats all. Also the XB-70 isn't really true Mission addaptive wing technology. ITs more along the lines of swept wings than MAW.... The simple answer is that MAW changes the thickness and shape of the wing, which the folding tips of the XB-70 is not designed to do.
9. 0, not O. What did I say? Funny after all these years I thought it was O not 0
10. ... Shhh JBO! You're making me look bad. Anyway I meant the modern version MAW.... using composites to make very sturdy yet flexible wings.
11. First off, Its already been done in macross... the YF-21 had Mission adaptive wings Secondly, MAW has been around for quite some time... its nearly 30 years old
12. honestly, I've watched a lot of anime in my day.... I was raised up on it during the 80s by my father who thought of it as a teaching tool to improve my japanese... and since I've started watching LOGH, I really gotten to reassess what I consider "good anime" because the series has completely changed my views the medium. This series is what you want anime to be. Not flashy shows that substitute flashy scenes for substance, but it as a medium to convey a story that can't be told any other way. The show builds up to some of the most epic battles one can imagine.
13. ITs always me saying this (or morpheus), but if you want an excellent serious anime, none tops Legend of Galactic Heroes. I've written waay too much about it, but a short synopsis its a massive space opera spanning 110 episodes +52 side story episodes, and 2 movies. It details an epic war between a Authoritarian Galactic Empire and a failing democracy the Free Planets Alliance. It revolves around two leaders, Reinhart Von Lohengramm of the Galactic Empire and Admiral Yang Wenli from the FPA. ITs massively political, with huge plotlines that look like they are from a russian novel (unlike most Anime, LOGH was taken from a novel rather than a manga), and the battles really have the most realistic portail in anime (they take many of the leaders strategies from real battles). It makes Macross look like Pokemon for its portrail of war... tens of thousands of ships engage in combat, and often millions perish in these conflict. Many of the main characters perish by the end, not graphically but often poignantly. You'll often find yourself get deeply attached to certain characters only to have them die a sensless death... it really pulls at your heart strings. If you want to start I suggest you download the first couple of episodes via bittorrent. You'll pretty quickly tell if you get hooked or not (something tells me you will). Its not licenced in north america (and I doubt it will ever be given its subject matter and length) but I personally consider it the finest Japanese Anime ever produced, matched only by some of Miyazaki's works on different merits.
14. I have two masters. No Really, I do.
15. well there are two versions, the VA-14 and the VF-14 Vampire. (this is according to the compendium. It seems that the VF-14 was first designed, however early in its development a parallel zentradi model was developed in parallel, which became the VA line. It had heavier armor, but a more powerful engine, thus preventing a sacrafice in performance.
16. This should explain for you the original concept for the designs http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/transl...cedvalkyrie.htm later on, Kawamori used these designs first as an inspiration for the Vartua mecha seen in Macross 7, then they were actually portrayed in the so so Dreamcast game, Macross M3
17. Yam Solo? Ok, I'm stumped on Yoda, but I rather like "Yam Solo." What about the organic vegetables advertisement that was done with a Star Wars theme? That short film featured fantastic names Chewbroccoli C3-Peanuts R2-Tofu Obi Wan Cannoli Tai Fighters Random thought: for some reason these remind me of that SNL skit with Chris farley Stuffed Ravioli- holi canoli!
18. I have. Repeatedly. I gave up when I realized that people I respect and don't wish to annoy weren't really following the arguments or noticing who "started it" or who was "right" or "wrong". . . they just wanted the arguing to stop. And I got tired of being accused of "ruining threads" or otherwise just being lumped in with the behavior I was attempting to decry. Throw in the fact that Togo is one of the "untouchables" around here. . . and it's pretty pointless to try to take him on. You'll just end up being aggravated, baited, and then told to shut the hell up even by people who dislike him as much as you do. I pretty well agree with what Hurin said, I've called him on it before, and now I don't because of being lumped in with togo and everybody else. But for once I'll take a stab at nanashi. I have several problems with Nanashi. I have problems with the watermarking of photos that essentially he has done nothing more than scanned and made available online. They aren't his work in the first place, and I will say togo's thread in a comedic way displayed the riduclouslness of his policy. Also never mind the obvious question why someone would even watermark something when he doesn't even have a website to point people to. Regardless I do accept that he does a service and so I can easily live with the trade off of having his watermark on photos. However what really gets to me is his arrogance, essentially thinking that he knows more than everybody else and deserves better respect or treatment because he provides a service for Macrossworld. I accept that he does do something for us, but so do a hell of a lot of other people on here, especially in the models department, and they don't ask for anything in return like he does. In some way I think the watermark has little to do with pointing people to his own site, but to increse his visiblilty to people on this forum. I didn't particularly like his attitude before but this thread in models really ticks me off: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...2597&hl=nanashi Pretty well he came into the Model forum, without ever building a model, and sought to tell modelers his opinion about our craft, and how poor Hasagawa models are as a respresntation of Macross. Then after being definitively told off by several experienced modelers (who have done far more for Macross than his all mighty contribution of scanning a couple of photos and prominently imprinting his watermark on it) he crys wolf and runs away. He whines whenever he doesn't get his way, like when he posted essentially rape hentai on the forums of Misa and Minmay. When the mods took it down (for obvious reasons), he cried all over the forum about his free speech being curtailed. Jemstone if you really wanted to uphold moral standards for women on this board, I'd suggest looking into nanashi's activities on this forum, not Low viz lurker's. Finally there was the spectacular episode when Egan came on and essentially corrected nanashi for every single inaccuracy he posted about his site. Pure vindication. Oh and what I really really despise is when we do point out the inconsistencies in his behavior, nanashi makes it out to be that he is the target of constant attack and then makes a big huff in leaving, only to come back in two weeks under a different name. Then he repeats the cycle over and over. I wonder if it has ever entered his narrow mind that maybe, just maybe, that he himself is the cause of the grief he gets on this board, not everybody else. I agree that he does a service for MW, but so do a lot of people without the arrogance or the melodramatics he brings. His attitude, like several other people on this forum borders on childish, and is just a pointless distraction that brings the forum down. edited for my terrible grammar
19. For a forum that tries to maintain the image that collecting toys and other paraphernalia from a 20 year old cartoon is a hobby for mature individuals, all of you are really doing a bang up job of acting like juvanile 12 year olds. I congratulate you all. Eh, blow it out your ass Mr. mature. No actually its pretty pathetic display on your part opus. I've made quite clear my views on Duke Togo, but I would never stoop to his level because then I'd be a hypocrite (unless you are with him then I have even less sympathy for you) Moreover I don't think anybody is asking for french high society here, but rather a modicum of civillity. The Best part of this forum was that you could come on here and feel immediately welcome, a community of people that have gathered to appreciate this anime. Instead, most of the crap that is dragging down this board has nothing to do with macross or appreciation, just ridiculously juvanile behavior. And I think its becoming fairly obvious that it has gotten alot worse in the past couple of months. Its largely perpetuated by a bunch of people, some of which are bonafide trolls, others who think because they have been around for quite some time it gives them the liberty to act like some sort of elite and shxt on other people that are continuing it. With the exception of certain threads, more and more I'm starting to ignore Other Sci fi and Series discussion forums because they are essentially pointless arguing grounds. The Model section (and I suspect the toy section as well) which are populated by people who are really dedicated to the craft is really the last reserve of the that community.
20. Lets review folks. For a forum that tries to maintain the image that collecting toys and other paraphernalia from a 20 year old cartoon is a hobby for mature individuals, all of you are really doing a bang up job of acting like juvanile 12 year olds. I congratulate you all.
21. Riiight, and the clone wars were what? Its pretty clear that the Jedis were fighting for what they percieved as good all along.
22. Duke Togo taking a discussion off topic??!?! Thats never happened before Just for the record, watching him get his @ss handed to him by Hurin is amusing. Kinda like watching a pinyata getting the crap beaten out of it.
23. Actually its kinda funny, because I think Duke Togo is one step above troll status on this board as well. I rarely see any worthwhile contributions from him, he's not funny, and most of the time he acts like an arrogant prick on the boards. Why is he here? Really? He doesn't even tell it as it is, like when he called Macross world a waste of money. He may not like M-7 but I don't need 2 pages of his pathetic attempts at comedic drivel to drive that in, and mess up a perfectly good discussion because he doesn't like it. Usually I let it slide for the exact reasons I do with Low viz. Why even bother getting into a pointless flamewar. And if you think some kid is going to get his ideas about women from a forum post by a long winded 18 year old on a discussion about a decade old anime on transforming robots, you have got to be kidding me. Let him believe his tripe, and so that he learns the hard way about how ignorant he is. Thats far more enjoyable than getting worked up about an argument with him. Not that you are getting worked up, but it must have pissed you off in some way to elicit your response in this thread.
24. In all honesty I, and I think a wide majority of MW don't read Low Viz's comments. When he first started posting, people told him to cut it down and he didn't, so people just ignore him go on with their daily lives. Usually it is on the verge of verbal tripe anyway, so I don't bother reading it. Its really impossible to have a real discussion with him because he overloads his posts with information that is either far too basic, or has nothing to do with the issue, so why bother even entering into a discussion with him? So ka....... I always found A1's and Duke to be right on the money and I know A1 doesn't read his posts..... Never stopped him from getting the jist of something just from reading it. Hell, do you think I read the whole thing? The first full paragraph was more than enough. That said he has not been the first to say really stupid things that have gone uncontested (feedback had a great discussion that needed "help" from me a couple months ago) and he shan't be the last, STOP WITH THE BS EXCUSES!!! Whoah... calm down, there is no need to shoot the messenger. I'm not going to get worked up about every idiot I see posting on the internet, because they seem to come out of the wood work on here. I study international relations, if I did go and correct everybody on their political statements, I'd be here for a century. Its not worth my, or your time to go and try to correct a 18 year old sitting in behind a computer screen. The guy is clearly not going to change his views, and really I find that people that are like him usually get what is coming to them anyways. Thats not even a karmic statement, I think if he actually thinks this in real life people will notice it and keep away from him like typhoid mary. Its much better to put the time and effort to people who matter on this board.
25. In all honesty I, and I think a wide majority of MW don't read Low Viz's comments. When he first started posting, people told him to cut it down and he didn't, so people just ignore him go on with their daily lives. Usually it is on the verge of verbal tripe anyway, so why bother? Its really impossible to have a real discussion with him because he overloads his posts with information that is either far too basic, or has nothing to do with the issue... he just bores you to death with more and more uselessness.
