I actually like it. I think it shows a nice bit of continuity of how the VF-4 came about using VF-1 parts. I've always wanted to make one, but never had the time to.

you guys think this is a bad thing... I mean if they succeed then they can take their flea bitten crap ass designs and leave poor ole' SDF macross alone. Postitives people, Positives.

Jonathan Mostow is Writing and Directing "The Sub-Mariner"
Noyhauser replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'd like to say someone's childhood got raped, but I mean who read the sub-mariner? Anyone who did probably deserved it getting raped in the first place. -
And when real men are finished with LOGHs and all its spinoffs, they watch Armored Trooper Votoms, and Armor hunter mellowlink. Just because you can't get enough lead in your diet.

Pffft. Real men watch Legend Of Galactic Heroes - By far and away one of the best stories ever animated... thought provoking, engaging characters, and by far and away the best battles ever (not for its art, but for realism) or Ailkie calles it DCDS

Newtype Magazine Poll For Top 100 Anime
Noyhauser replied to kensei's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Psst, its not called Samurai X in Japan, rather Ruruoni Kenshin. And like someone else said, its really just a poll of what people are buying right now. many of them are utterly forgettable, and probably driven by market demands. I'd bet if we looked at a newtype poll from 10 years ago, Gundam wing would be number one. Something tells me that some of them may be influenced by recent releases, is there a new NGE boxset out or something? The Z Another translation series did fairly well in theater and sales, why is it so low? probably because people just chose MSG as a byword for that. -

To be honest, I thought NGE was pretty ho-hum compared to a lot of other series... -

Please re-read the quotes I am referring to. In one paragraph the PD are proported to be self aware "captial ships", in the next they are possessed "capital ships" ( I use the term capital ships, because the larger ones had the power and size of one, no other reason), I want to know what Keith is describing them to be as there is a contradiction in his explanation. Thats actually a pretty good description of it. The PD originally were that, massive bio weapons that used energy from a sub universe. They were probably not much more intelligent than regular zentredi. Then they were possessed by the PD, who were beings from this sub universe. (bit pressed for time) -

Yes well Noyhauser we are well aware of how many Mac 7 lovers "hate" differing "opinions", not all, but several. Kinda makes respecting their arguments difficult, when they refuse to respect the arguments of others.... 425045 Right, well you can sit on your own biases too then. I've never said that Macross 7 was the end all be all of all anime, not even close, its probably wouldn't make it into my top 10 anime, frankly for many of the reasons people have raised. I can recognize its faults and problems, and I've been willing to dish on them in this thread. What I take exception to was your continual posts calling it a Kids show, when it wasn't anymore than SDF macross was. You continually dropped in these comments without any sort of debate at all, preferring to fire off comments that essentially said it was your opinion, when it was highly contestable whether that was true. Now that you're at least opening up to debate we can go over some of these. Please don't take things out of context to prove your point, he said for "all intents and purposes" which means they would serve a role as centerpieces for fleet action. The mode by which the Protoculture built these creations was not through shipyards but bio-engineering. Its not that hard to get that. And lets be perfectly frank here, Neo Genesis Evangeleon is being shown at the same time, and in conception were far more "unrealistic" than the PD. In conception was the PD "giant space monsters"? Clearly not, and I think thats the key point. In portrayal were they? Maybe a bit, but when viewed with the back story about what they were and where they came from, its definately not. I think they didn't trasnlate well with the reduced budget they got for art. I think the best example of this is in the movie, where they get better animation, and they look ALOT better and a lot less "monsterish." You keep focusing on Basara, who doesn't change as much as other characters. Clearly Gamlin, and Mylene change big time, as does Gigil. On that note, I don't consider Gigil a "minor character" I'll put money down that Gigil recieved more screen time than Focker ever did in SDF Macross, and played a major role in altering the story. And the depths of the changes for other characters were quite substantial. Mylene goes from being a annoying brat to someone who understands the responsibility on her shoulders. I understand and even partially agree with JBO's point that basara is more of a plot piece than a character (I think he is both), but he does change perceptably. At the start of the series he's completely against all military people, and rebels against everything, letting anger get the better of himself. the episode where he fires the missiles at Grabil and Gamlin blocks it, is a minor turning point. He suffers his own crisis of faith at several different points, (the death of Gigil being one of them). Yes his basic point is the same from the beginning to end, but its not rigid and he doubts himself. Didn't UN spacy order Max to launch an attack on the planet holding the PD's bodies? And as a result he was forced to carry out Stargazer in order not to sacrafice the whole fleet in a pointless battle that would give his fleet a 0.0001% chance of success? Giving them permission to use their nuclear weapons to me seems to be no different than when UN Spacy gave the SDF macross macross before they sent them off to space to certain death. -

I always thought that scene was one of the better ones in Mac 7, where Gamlin realizes that his weapons are useless. Its also a scene of character by Basara... he isn't unfeeling or infallable. thanks Keith, you made the points better than I could on Zinjo's comments. I somewhat expect another "its my opinion" statement coming. -

Not really, I suspect not many Japanese adults would admit to watching much anime as it is looked down on in society because of the Otaku Killer. However I hear that such notions are waning as the years pass. So you are left with kids who would enthusiastically support a show directed to their demographic. Let's face it Mac 7 is a very good kids show... 423272 I love how you keep saying it, yet when confronted you just put your fingers in your ears and say "nanannananananan I don't hear you, its my opinion so I'm not going to argue it" If you're going to state something that is highly contestable over and over again, have the balls to back it up, because its pretty clear as keith pointed out, its no different from ANY other anime of its generation. -
From what I read in the Financial times, this will be something new entirely, and was to enter service in 2012, so its not just "another redesign." Its a completely new project by Airbus after the A-380 debacle. I don't think Airbus is "grasping at straws" either, they are going through some troubles, but to be honest, so was Boeing four years ago... everybody thought boeing was done for then. Here's a good article about how short sightedness in the aircraft industry. http://www.newyorker.com/printables/talk/0...talk_surowiecki

Didn't they announce at farnborough that they would create a new A350 completely, rather than a redesign?

Also because the Japanese market doesn't really like large models. Space is at a premium in many Japanese houses and large PG models don't really cut it.

That's a simple one, L.I.L.Y. Cat. It was released by Streamline years ago, but due to it's blatantly alien-rip-off-ness (I assume) no one's bothered to re-license it. Might be able to find an old tape flying around. I never saw it in north america, I remember watching it on Japanese television when I was young, and never knew the name... thanks Keith.

I got one for you anime folk (if you don't mind me asking). Its a japanese anime, I assume around 1992, but even earlier. ITs sorta like Alien the movie (Actually its alot like it). It was a group of people in what I think was a space station, fighting this dark beast... Most of them die I seem to recall. All I remember in the end was that two people got off in a shuttle (a guy and a girl) and they decends to the planet, and one of the main characters blows up the station or space ship with his lighter in a room full of H2 or O2 tanks. Any ideas? oh I assume its a movie or an OVA

Isn't the cabin spacing arrangement determined by the Airline, not the manufacturor?

Why? so you can act elitist for having read the books? Its LOGH for almost everybody else.

Not really. The name at the bottom of the screen for the first few times we see a character was a enough to get me to remember them later when they didn't show it. 421230 Man, how did I not post in this thread The names at the bottom are key... also alot of the main characters reappear alot. For your sake the main ones on the Empire's side are (These aren't really spoilers) Reinhard Von Lohengramm(musel) Siegfried Kircheis Oskar Von Reuenthal Wolfgang Mittermeyer Joachim Von Merkatz Paul Von Oberstein Neidhard Muller

it mentions the hatches being able to open, but it previously had shown Basara sitting on the dome of City 7. 419404 Well I'm sure that they wouldn't open all the hatches, just some of them. -

Except it happened again in the same episode... Gigil captures Basara, they fly off in the hands of an Elgerzorine, and before Emerald Force shoots them down, he shoves Basara off right above the forest bubble of City 7. Next shot has Basara falling through the branches. Perhaps the smaller domes are barriers, or maybe they're retractable for settling on a planet. I dunno, I give up on that aspect. I'll just put a few more strings on my disbelief. 419246 If I remember correctly, wasn't it shown that there were open hatches at the time? I'm pretty sure they did... -
