I have a recast of the Club-M in fighter mode... I haven't built it, but I've cleaned up the parts a done a dryfit... seems really good. My only gripe is how the intakes are shaped... but I think I can fix that.

Buddahfabio can you provide a link for your article... I'd actually like to see it. If anything the Airforce wants more C-17s so they can take the stress off of the older C-5 fleet. Also, the wording of the AP article is the problem here. This is the actual wording of the Pentagon's press release: Really this is just an normal upgrade program for the C-17, probably some new avionics and increased defense from anti aircraft weapons. Its been buried on New Years Eve because its a large sum, and not seen as a major defence project which would get broad Congressional support. Look what else was buried in this news release: Yeah, something you didn't want to see out on a day when news organizations were actually paying attention.

Ah see that was covered by my earlier post: if you're posted to anything BUT the newest top of the line fighter: you're essentially dead the second you step into a cockpit... that is unless your name happens to be Millia or Max, then anything you step in becomes the most lethal killing machine known to man. VF-11B - Top of the line fighter: permanent invulnerability VF-11C - Cannon Fodder: insta death

Frick you beat me to it.... Thinking about this connection brings alot of possibilities which are too strong to dismiss. If you have played VF-X2 the the Gjagravan-va looks REALLY jarring esthetically. Everything else in the game is bonafide macross universe designs... then this thing emerges as a boss... and you're like WTF where did this come from? I have a suspicion that the Vindirance group which designed the gjagravan-va might have had some access to Protoculture designs, and that its is a pale copy of the bug we see in Macross F. This would also make sense when you consider the group deploys this advanced jamming system that makes Macross 13 basically unattackable by conventional missiles, which is what we see the Protoculture deploy in Macross F. More and more you think about it, there is a very strong correlation between the two. I think this is not the first time the UNS or some other group has encountered such a vehicle or technology. Its quite possible that the UNS has salvaged protoculture technology before, maybe something that they found derelict in space... who knows. But this would also fit in with the statement that they knew something was coming.

The Monster MUST make an appearance in every series. You can add that if you're posted to anything BUT the newest top of the line fighter: you're essentially dead the second you step into a cockpit... that is unless your name happens to be Millia or Max, then anything you step in becomes the most lethal killing machine known to man. Not true, Max uses them to damage Millia's battlesuit, afterwhich she runs... and they helped Hikaru save Misa, which might be the biggest win of them all.

Macross 25th Anniversary TV Special thread *READ THE 1ST POST*
Noyhauser replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Finally was able to watch it for the first time today... fricking amazing. So many of the scenes were homages, even the choreography. The enemy approach to the fleet was basically the same footage as the SV-51 attack on the UNS Fleet from Macross Zero, but in space. Here are some substantive musings of mine. Are the "space monsters" part of the Protoculture? I'd say so. The markings and its similarity to AFOS is one. But also notice where they approach the Space monster's base, its the same pyramid shape as the archive that Exedol enters on planet Rax during Macross 7 and meets the protoculture avatar. One other thing is that the SM mecha faintly resembles the gjagravan-va enemy attacker from VFX-2 (props to Chris from MAHQ) I think you're right. Exedol in M-7 seems to be the person who had this information and in Macross F, its the Mayor. I'm pretty sure the VF-171 transforms. Watch how they fall apart when hit: they disintegrate according to the transforming parts and the seam lines are clearly where they should be on the VF-17. The VF-17 was supposed to be a space superiority fighter first and foremost, which is precisely the territory that Macross Frontier. If they are green pilots its likely that they are too inexperience to use the transformation sequence to its fullest benefit. A little aside: While it was said the VF- 19 was supposed to be a replacement for the VF-11, it seemed ill suited for that role. Remember during Macross+ Milliard said that the 19 was supposed to be able to conduct precise raids in renegade territory: that seems to me to be more a special forces fighter's job, not your run of the mill cannon-fodder valk. While the YF-21 seemed to be wildly too expensive (morphing wings), I think the VF-19 probably was still too expensive for most colonies to construct except for leading squadrons like Diamond and Emerald in Macross 7. If there is one point I can't fault Kawamori, its that he's always made the macross universe believable in terms of the technology progression. While UNS can design all the next generation superfighters it wants (roughly one every decade) many colonies still use cheaper, simpler designs, like the VF-5000 in Zola, and the VF-17 in Macross Frontier. This also explains why we still see stryker type wheeled armored vehicles vs destroids: they are cheaper and do the job just as effectively as destroids. This thinking also might give an explanation why a private military company operates a bleeding edge fighter. Given the extreme costs of such vehicles it might make sense for some colonization fleets to contract out high end missions to private groups. These groups could move around to fleets that are more likely to call upon its services; ie where combat is more likely to occur. Maintaining high end squadrons (like Diamond squadron) costs alot of money, especially if you're going to reenter space where a fleet might not see combat. As for the Launching arm of the VF-171s, its launched off of the ARDM follow-on class, so its technology is circa 2010, which should not be surprising. I think this is a great point... something that GITS SAC did which I think just enriches a series and also presumably makes it cheaper than hiring someone to design it all from scratch. -
This thread should be renamed: Space Helicopters Suck

Umm, a famous british actor more known for his comedic roles, like in Wooster and Jeeves, and he usually plays the bumbling Colonel/Lord/foil in the Black Adder Series. He's written a lot of books, produced a lot of smart programs... not surprisingly he's a pretty smart guy. Google image search for him/... I think you'll recognize him.

the only problem with ultimatum's "tie in" with the supremacy was that the NY phone scene are in completely different seasons... but yeah, its pretty cool nonetheless.

Yeah Jeez DH, who asked you to bring truth to the forums? Sheesh, some people.

That B-52 video reminded me of the story of the RB-47 and the Mackinac bridge... I would have loved to seen such a thing... http://www.absolutemichigan.com/dig/michig...ath-the-bridge/ http://akkingfish.homestead.com/files/lappo.html

One thing I'd suggest is to look at is maybe using ebay or some other online retailer to sell remainder games if they are not popular, at least as a supplemental source of income. It might be hit and miss, but it might be more than selling it in a discount bin for 5~10$. A friend of mine who owns a game store uses it to recoop losses and sell excess stock. -
Oh I was talking about a fighter mode version...

^ don't you think that Hasegawa might build one, particularly if its in both in Macross 7 and Macross Frontier?

Two quick points. First, this isn't a garage kit you're recasting: its a Wave Kit. That not Tanmen or Gokiken-Semetsu; its a major company, which I think recasters would not like to toy with. There is also an outside chance they might re-release the kit it due to apparent inclusion of the fighter in Macross Frontier, or come up with a new one. Second, the Wave kit isn't that rare; I've seen it from anywhere between 30 to 100 dollars. Considering the size of the current vinyl kit, I'd say that a resin recast would greatly exceed that price and just not be that economically viable. I could be wrong about all of this but I think they are issues that you should be aware of.

Shoji Kawamori Patlabor Aircraft Designs
Noyhauser replied to nanashino's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I can't remember the numbers off of the top of my head but the decision to split the contract between Lauzon and St. Johns cost the Canadian taxpayer alot, and for little benefit. Both yards closed by the end of the 1990s because there was no contracts available. There are no Quebec yards that can conceivably do the new Frigate upgrade project so they can't get any contracts. Well for the last five years, the majority of the funding purchases have been to support one of two tracks: expeditionary warfare capability (the CDS's Preference) Northern Defence (the government's secondary preference). Moreover much of the expeditionary warfare stuff has come in response to combat in Afghanistan. Nyalas, 2A4 Leopards, G Wagons, Chinooks, and Anti IED vehicles are good examples. Also there is precedent for this... Remember Trudeau; he was staunchly anti military, and presided over some big cuts in the early 1970s. Then in the early 1980s he pushed through the frigate program, the CF-18, and a host of other programs that Mulroney was able to capitalize on and look "tough" on defence. IF you're talking about the Conservatives' promise for a "hybrid carrier" its likely not going to happen. We might get a "quasi" amphibious warfare capability, and the army has been training on U.S. amphibious ships. However the nature of the Joint Support Ship's specifications (which is supposed to be a refueling/ offshore support ship and with some amphib capability, is already a stretch. Its difficult to imagine that it can also become a part aircraft carrier too. Finally Naval officials doesn't really want to become too heavy drawn into this role, because now they are being asked to carry out arctic patrols as well. Two new roles with not very much money forthcoming does not a happy MARCOM make. Few naval officers are happy with the loss of the upcoming DDH, and the "upgrade" of the Halifax class. The DDH allowed the Navy to command air defence and anti submarine warfare operations in U.S. Carrier groups, something that they really wanted to keep. Upgrading Halifaxes to do this role doesn't really inspire much confidence, and there there is growing disgruntlement that they are being shut out of the big spending spree.
