Of course the cyborg HAX isn't really fair. I was just voicing my opion and joking around as others were doing when they listed other pilots who aren't on the poll. As far as natural piloting skills go I want to say that Meltrandi leader from "Macross 7: Fleet of the Strongest Women." I remembered she absolutely pawned Basara and Milia, but I can't remember if she ever faced Max in a dogfight. Of course she wasn't nearly as hot as Klan, but then again comparing sexyness of Frontier designs verus other Macross series is pretty unfair because Macross Frontier was designed with sex traps in the first place. Just look at the two charaters designers Risa Ebata and Yƻichi Takahashi who did Macross Frontier. Both were experienced animation directors, but only Mikan Ehime had charater designer written on his resume. His previous works as Charater designer were the hentai "The Hills Have Size" and Gonzo's "Gravion" series which was essentially Gao Gai Gar with maids. Well Grace did raise Sheryl and Brea and I am sure the Macross Galaxy has a few dirty pools from all that industrial waste Sheryl commented about if you want to follow your definition... I was going by this definition though: Courgar: Noun. A 35+ year old female who is on the "hunt" for a much younger, energetic, willing-to-do-anything male. The cougar can frequently be seen in a padded bra, cleavage exposed, propped up against a swanky bar in San Francisco (or other cities)waiting, watching, calculating; gearing up to sink her claws into an innocent young and strapping buck who happens to cross her path. ~http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cougar Macross Frontier looks close enough to San Francisco right? Its cause cause Scott could only kick ass when he had a Beta full of missiles to unleash with his Stic Rage! I think the debate for best pilot in Macross will be settled one and and for all though when all the aces take pilot their transforming vectors... err I mean VFs and merge them together to form Super Dimensional Aquarion Macross. Then it will be obvious who the best pilot is when he/she forms the head and causes all the other pilots to organism.

Who is the best pilot in Macross? I would have to say its Grace hands down. Why? Not only is she capable of doing all the insane ghost maneuvering that Brera can, but she is sexy cougar in or out of a pilot suit! True, she doesn't have Sheryl or Klan's looks, but she is the only female pilot in the entire Macross universe that could have sex with you in the cockpit AND fly circles around the other ace pilots AT THE SAME TIME. Just ask yourself if anything be hotter then the thrill of having sex while in the middle of a dogfight and its obvious why Grace trumps all the other pilots hands down!

Robotech and HG License Debates

Yeah they could easily make it the Shadow fighter piloted by that evil Shadow human/invid from the Robotech: Invasion game. Wasn't Southern Cross another joint Super Dimensional project between Big West and Tatsunoko? Regardless if Tatsunko makes the toys and has them licensed by Big West then that is just easy money for the license holder Big West. I'd imagine the only reason Big West would deny new Southern Cross toys from being made is to prevent more toys from being repackaged and sold under the Robotech banner. -

I think comic books and videogames are considered just merchandise by copyright law because they are relatively new in the history of copyright laws and no body has changed the copyright laws to categorize them as Intellectual property rather then general Merchandise. It remembers of what someone said about the Watchmen movie though and how today comic books are the only works of literature where the actual writer doesn't own the copyright, but that it used to be the same way with Movie scripts when movies were new. -

Silly me. Remembered love, forgot the title. Never got into Appleseed, I hated the way the way the charaters were 3d CG rather then 2D. I also don't read a lot of manga, but it might be worth checking out. Big fan of Ghost in the Shell series, but I honestly only bothered reading Masamune's Ghost in the Shell manga after finding about the hot lesbian cyborg sex in a totally NSFW thread dedicated to the hot babes of Masamune Shirow's works . -

"However, they cannot create any new animation or movies using the SDF Macross characters and mecha because they do not have the intellectual property rights. Comic books and videogames are excluded as these fall under the category of merchandising rights." Thanks, forgot about that part. So Smith and Tinker would have to get approval from Big West and Harmony Gold. HG's Merchandising rights cover the videogames, but they still would have had to use Big West's mecha designs, there intellectual property, to actually make the unseen mechs in the video game in the first place. -

FYI: "Jordan Weisman, co-founder of FASA and co-creator of BattleTech, founded Smith and Tinker late in 2007, and acquired back the electronic rights to MechWarrior from Microsoft, along with the rights to make games with other FASA IP, including Crimson Skies and Shadowrun. Although at the time Weisman didn't detail his plans for any of these properties, his move renewed fan enthusiasm and speculation for a new MechWarrior title which has persisted since." http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=24360 Weisman and his new BattleTech company probably know all too well about what went down over the "unseen" mechs and it looks like this time around they knew exactly who to call for permission to use the unseen mechs. I can just see McKeaver talking to the hardcore fans angry over this: "Your telling me that Robotech had nothing to do with the MDYRL Attack of the Bioroids dub? Just where to think the term "Bioroid" came from? *points to old Bioroid actionfiqure as he talks in his Angelo Dante impersonion* It was gonna be released Robotech: Do You Remember that We Will Win, but stuff happened. Hey did you guys know I was on an epidsode of Jackass?" -

Take a another look at the copyright page for Super Robot Wars. All those copyrighted trademarks show that the SRW got permission from the IP owners by asking them politely and sending them a check. This new FASA could have easily done the same thing. Sure Battletech was formed by just stealing the design, but that doesn't mean that the Japanese are still holding a huge grudge and would turn down honest agreements from this new FASA group. Until we can actually look at the copyright page or see if BigWest and Sunrise raise hell we won't really know for sure if the designs were legally acquired. I am betting that they were though. The original Mechwarrior 5 was canceled in 2003 after Microsoft refused to publish it, maybe over copyrights? I don't know for sure, but regardless of the reason I think that Pirannha Games no doubt took this MechWarrior reboot very seriously and would pay attention to issues like copyrighted designs especially if there already showcasing an ingame footage trailers with the "unseen" Warhammer for the world to see. http://pc.ign.com/objects/496/496466.html#aboutThisGame -

Do you thank their is a chance that WB/HG will be able to work something out with Big West now? Until now it was pretty much assumed Big West won't license out their Macross mecha designs to anyone for any amount of money. Of course they still hate HG, but if they already licensed the designs for a MechWarrior videogame that will no doubt get a Japanese release as well who's to say that won't even consider getting even more money from licensing the movie rights for the RLAM? The way I see it BW didn't receive a cent from HG when they copied Macross for the Robotech cartoon nearly 25 years ago, there is no way to undue the damage Robotech did to Macross in the American market, and HG now has a firm grip on the Macross trademark. Now HG wants to make a Robotech movie and BG can either deny them the Live action rights to Macross outright or make the most of the situation and sell the live action movie rights for SDF/DYRL Macross for Millions to WB. -

It can't be Harmony Gold. They got merchandising rights to any products bearing the names Macross in North America, but they don't have any rights over the actual Tomahawk or any other Mecha design in Macross. The Tomahawk and all other Macross Mecha design is the Intellectual Property of Big West. I was thinking the same thing. I am betting my money on Big West though cause their the undisputed owner of the mecha design rights. Considering that Piranha Games/FASA doesn't have anything to do with HG or Robotech and that MechWarrior is more concerned with land mecha then transforming its shouldn't be a big surprise that they would at least licenses the destroid mecha such as the Tomahawk that barely gets any attention anyway. If Piranha Games/Catalyst/whoever actually have the rights to the mecha they no doubt realize that HG's bark is worst then their bite when it comes to their rights over Macross and will hopefully throw any C&D letters in the trash where they belong. -

My bad on the Warhammer design. Here are some snapshots of the trailor. You can even see in the third shot that Warhammer is posted on the cockpit screen in the 3rd image. http://img3.imageshack.us/i/vlcsnap45039.png/ http://img3.imageshack.us/i/vlcsnap45039.png/ http://img5.imageshack.us/i/vlcsnap45870.png/ http://img3.imageshack.us/i/vlcsnap46079.png/ I am beginning to think that FASA and Microsoft must have obtained the rights to atleast the Macross inspired Lost Mechs. For one losing the most popular mechs in a legal battle isn't something FASA would just forget and there is no way Microsoft would pour millions into rebooting the Mechwarrior franchise over just continuing their platinum selling Mechassualt series unless the licensing issues were all squared away. -

I actually have an update. After further digging I discovered that FASA redesigned all their "unseen" mechs into the "reseen" mechs that were laid out in"Technical Readout: Project Phoneix" back in 2003: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Technical_Readout:_Project_Phoenix. All thanks to an old forgetten thread here in MacrossWorld of all places: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/lofiversio...php/t26711.html That Warhammer in the new Mech Warrior is no doubt the "reseen" WarHammer that looks a lot like the original Macross Tomahawk... Tomahawk Redesigned Warhammer Now if FASA has been getting away with Macross redesigns like this since 2003 then I doubt redesigns for the RLAM will have any of the legal probelms that we've been speculating. -

Your welcome anytime. I also have some interesting news to report. It looks to me like FASA or whoever is running BattleTech/Mechwarrior has actually gotten the license to the macross "lost mechs" back as they have been doing more then just simply reprint old images of the "lost mechs." Just look at the Warhammer aka Tomahawk Destroid 20 in the ingame trailer for Mechwarrior 5 on youtube. According to IGN its been confirmed that the game is actually a Mechwarrior reboot and is officially titled just"Mechwarrior." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl4eI3htAuA http://www.videogamer.com/news/mechwarrior..._confirmed.html I say we wait to see if they really acquired the rights or if there will be a legal conflict once Big West sees the new Mech Warrior. It would poetic justice though if FASA's Mechwarrior reboot were to somehow deny HG from using the Macross designs in Robotech this time around. -

The Watchmen legal fight started after they finished filming because after Fox filed a lawsuit Zack Snyder rushed the movie's production so that they would be done filming Watchmen before WB had to actually go before a court, remember it can take years to actually schedule a trial. As for development hell projects that is the best time to try and stop them by threatening legal action. Watchmen of course didn't really much of a development hell under Zach Snyder though because the script was literally lifted from the comic. While I am sure Paramount wouldn't like the box office competition if Transformers 3 and Robotech are released around the same time there is nothing they can do to stop WB from making a transforming robot movie. I am curious though if WB will use the same software that was developed to animate the bayformers. From what I heard it took 350 engineers from George Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic almost a year to program the graphics software used to animate the complex transformations with a simple interface. I am not sure if the rights to the software are entirely under ILM because they made the software while under commission for the production of Transformers. I would think that Paramount and/or ILM would be more then happy to charge WB for the use of the transformer software though as there isn't a huge market for multi-million dollar graphic software that's programed only for animating transforming robots. The bald apeface was General Leon in Sourthern Cross and Leonard in Robotech. Seifriet/Zor Prime was the tall guy with the long purple hair. Personally I always saw Leon (the bald guy) as the guy in charge who felt like he was always dealt the toughest choices in a losing war against the overwhelming Zor, but I will agree he gets little sympathy for being a hardass commander who refuses to follow Emerson's ideas for peaceful negotiations with the enemy. The original SC was alot more sympahtetic to the charater as the motives behind his "stupid" actions made much more sense in Southern Cross then they did in Robotech. For instance in Robotech when the 15th Squad capture a wounded bioroid pilot they discover its an alien and Emerson orders it to be incinerated with no need for an autospy because its war and all the aliens must be killed. In Southern Cross the pilot is no alien, but a human civilian that was kidnapped from Liberte (RT's Space Station Liberty) and brainwashed into a bioroid pilot like Seifreit/Zor Prime. After all attempts to treat the brainwashed man fail and he dies General Leon order his body to be incinerated and that any evidence that the pilot was human destroyed and that no word of the truth gets out because the soldiers would hesitate to fire knowingly on brainwashed people. -

Do mean Big West with Macross or Paramont with Transformers? Honestly if either studio had a legal issue with WB entering the transforming-robot franchise with Robotech they would have hired the lawyers years ago when the Robotech LAM was confirmed and not until production starts. Besides Hollywood and anime studios copy successful genres all the time and you can't sue someone over just genre ideas like transforming robots. -

Rather then endlessly debate on the definition of fan fiction lets look at an established defintion. According to wiki fanfiction "is a broadly-defined term used to describe stories about characters or settings written by fans of the original work, rather than by the original creator. Works of fan fiction are rarely commissioned or authorized by the original work's owner, creator, or publisher; also, they are almost never professionally published. Fan fiction, therefore, is defined by being both related to its subject's canonical fictional universe and simultaneously existing outside the canon of that universe. Most fan fiction writers assume that their work is read primarily by other fans, and therefore tend to presume that their readers have knowledge of the canon universe (created by a professional writer) in which their works are based." It seems to me the critera defining fan fiction are: 1) Made without authorization and/or commission by the original owner, creator or publisher. 2) Work is outside of an established canonical fictional universe. Were the Robotech comics done with authorization from Harmony Gold? Check. Are the Robotech comics considered canon in the Robotech comic storyline? Check. Looks to me like the comics are not fan fiction, just horribly written comics. -

What you talking about the 1965 classic "The Greatest Story Ever Told" isn't anywhere on Hulu. Besides what does the story of Jesus on a Cross have to do with this Robotech and HG thread? RTSC? What does that acronym stand for? Let me think here R T S C... "Robo Tech Suxs Coc" sounds about right. Funny thing is when I search for it on Hulu all I get nothing but the Discovery Channel's Tech show. Ah, well at least now I can watch Captain Harlock on Hulu, its a much better space opera then that Ripoff Tech or Robo Trash show that a lot of people have been talking about lately. -

I agree, we can't let Tommy Yune and the HG paparazzi continue to sell these tabloid stories that disrespect fictional celebrities like Jonathon Wolfe. Those poor artificial people have feelings too... right? Nice try. We've all clicked on the G-Force trailer expecting to see the familiar Gatchaman adaption only to scream WTF Disney after seeing that its Gerbil force. I was able to confirm one new fact about the Gatchaman movie though. They've made Professor Nambu black and he is being voiced by David Oyelowo. So the guys feels free to posts his own artwork and stuff on his back wall as he pleases. Big Deal. If the wall posts bother you that much why don't you storm in his office and tear them down yourself? -

And when I vest my flashing sword And my hand takes hold in judgement I will take vengeance upon my Robotech enemies And I will repay those who hase Macross, O Lord raise me to Thy right hand And count me amoung Thy Otaku. Whosoever shed last blood. By man shall his blood be shed. For immunity of god make he the man. Destroy all that which is Robotech. So that which is Macross may flourish. And I shall count thee amoung my favoured sheep. And you shall have the protection of all the angels in heaven. Never shall innocent blood be shed. Yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The valkyries shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeaful striking hammer of god. -

I think he just wanted shots of all the Robotech fans filling the panel and he probably didn't want to use up all his digital film snaping shots of Tommy, Kevin, and their annual PowerPoint presentation. A bit off topic, but does anyone know if their were any announcements at Anime Expo about WB's other anime adaption in the works, Gatchaman? I know a new trailer was revealed, but I am curious if its still set for a 2010 release or if the rumors are true that it has been pushed back to 2011.
