I'm not sure about the updated pins, but I do know that the latest release of the VF-1A Hikaru (DYRL) still has the tinted canopy and the "older" hip-locking mechanism that's similar to the Macross Zero Valks. This, of course, is in contrast to some of the other VF-1 re-issues that lack the rainbow/chrome tint and have the "newer" hip-locking mechanism that is akin to the 1/48 Valks. The only difference I know of between the original and re-issue of the VF-1A Hikaru (DYRL) is that the original has a "rainbow" tint while the re-issue has a "chrome" tint on the canopy (according to AmiAmi). I would hope that the re-issue has the updated pins, but I cannot verify this at the moment. The only reassurance I can give you is that the re-issue of the VF-1A Hikaru (DYRL) was released in early Aug 2010, less than 2 months prior to the release of the VF-1A Max and Kakizaki (DYRL) w/ FPs, which supposedly are safe bets. I know that's not the answer you were looking for, but that's all I know at this juncture.

Plus I just ordered a VF-11C, and with the 3 VF-22Ss I got during HLJ's recent Yamato sale, that covers all the M7 Valks thus far. Have no fear. I've ordered a Defender directly from them before, and the VF-0S I just got came from them through their Amazon store. I haven't taken it out yet to check for defects, but it arrived safely in just a few days.

Yeah, I just got a response back from HLJ, and according to them their current stock is from the 2010 production run.

Yes, but that was just the initial release. I've ordered many things from HLJ, such as Max's TV VF-1A. Although the page I ordered it from indicated the original release date, the version I received was the reissue with the new hip lock mechanism and clear canopy. Thusly, although the original release date of the VF-0A Mass Production Type was in 2006, there was also a re-release issued in 4/10. Now, I'm not inferring that the one offered at HLJ is the re-release, but it isn't necessarily the original release either.

Hmmm...that's a tough one. I agree with you on both accounts, but if I had to choose I'd go with Kakizaki's VF-1A. Sure the CF looks great, but I think it's better to complete the Vermillion Squad.

Yes, but keep in mind that the standalone version comes with a TV Roy pilot while the FP version comes with Hikaru.
