Plus, there's no current need for a fleet defender. The Cold War is over and the navy doesn't have to worry about waves of Soviet Backfire or Badger bombers firing AS-4 Kitchen or AS-6 Kingfish missiles at carrier battle groups.

Calibre Wings' 1/72 scale diecast F-14 Tomcats have superb detail. I have 2 in my collection and they are head and shoulders above other diecast model manufacturers of the Tomcat. The head guy at Calibre is supposedly a stickler for accuracy so I'm excited for this.

Ah~ Ok, so it's not seen or needed in cruiser mode. Thanks!

Anyone know where this piece goes? It fell out of the plastic bag containing the main body. Looked all over but can't figure out where it goes.

Actually these F-14s from Calibre Wings are from China. The issues that Jenius mentions aren't that bad. Yes, the pylons come off rather easily but it's easily dealt with. Just a bit of Elmer's glue will help. There are some fragile areas and fiddly pieces but this is generally typical for diecast aircraft models that are aiming for high accuracy and detail. As the review mentions - keep in mind that these are meant for display. Not for play. As display pieces, these models are absolutely superb. -
What airline did you take? Also, what airport did you fly in/out of?

I just have to wonder from where Tenjin is getting inspiration for these anniversary schemes. The real life aerobatic team colors and JASDF anniversary liveries are far more appealing.

I'm not seeing your image but HLJ has a decal set for VX-9 Vampires. https://hlj.com/product/MDKDC-5

That's not a squadron. It's not even an infantry squad. In military terms, it'd just be a 4-ship flight or infantry fireteam. -
Toy Galaxy is at times a nostalgia channel. It seems they'll cover whatever 1980's cartoon and toys when they feel like it. In other words, the timing, of when the channel covers a certain past cartoon series and its related toys doesn't really matter. I mean, just a few weeks ago, they covered Centurions. Personally, I enjoy the channel. I don't really care to research stuff like Centurions, Sectaurs, or Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, but I do remember them from my childhood so brief and light content like what Toy Galaxy provides is nice for when I need entertainment while eating lunch.

I love my J-type Tomcat.
-
My order for the "Fokker S type" and "Hikaru J type" Tomcats arrived today from BBTS.

Unfortunately, I've already started painting the parts red. At this point I might consider going for a black trim rather than white. It'd no longer be Millia's ship but oh well. Thanks for the help though. Next time I'll do it right.

Absolutely gorgeous. I don't think my build will even come close. Nevertheless, looking forward to working on it... just as soon as I finish some other kits... My order with HLJ shipped today!

Hey guys, I'm currently building a Hasegawa VF-1J Millia type. I'm just wondering.... Is it safe to lay the white trim decals over the red paint? (such as those for the wings & forward fuselage) What I'm worried about is whether or not the red paint color underneath will seep through the white decals. If anyone has experience with a Millia kit, please let me know. Thanks!

How about going retro and introducing propeller driven VFs? I don't know, make up some kind of cockamamie technoexcuse to require them in outer space. -
Yep, definitely looks like a quad mount 1.1 inch. What's amazing is how well the markings have survived on the Devastator and Wildcat. The Wildcat still shows its Felix the Cat as well as kill marks.

Just a heads up. The UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) is available on Amazon at MSRP.

Bandai's VF-1 kit has the lower part of the frame (the canopy rails) separate from the canopy. It worked fine.
-
The blog mentions that the kit is snap-fit (ie. no glue required). It also mentioins that the cockpit can be fitted in from below after the fuselage completed. This makes it super easy for painting. With the nose being one piece, it takes out an area that often requires seamline removal in aircraft models. And with the canopy having a separate frame piece, masking is no longer needed and makes things much easier. This is kit is looking like something that's going to be a breeze to complete!

I don't like Satelight's animation style at all. It just looks dated and cheap. Whereas something like Yamato 2199 looks positively amazing. Even Girls und Panzer looks better. The dated look would be forgiveable if the action scenes were well done. But it isn't. It looks like they're trying mimic Itano in places but most of the time it just looks completely uninspired. -
But the RAF could've had F-15s for less cost and less headache. Though TBH, I'm glad they didn't because the Tornado F.3 is a pretty cool looking jet.
-
We don't really know if it's actually 1/48 scale. The tweet says "1/48-ish". Knowing Bandai, it could be yet another "non-scale" where it's close enough to be 1/48 or somewhere between 1/48 and 1/35.

I'm not familiar with high-gloss kits but, I assume it's similar to what I'm facing with a metallic coating kit (Akatsuki). I want to add a bit of panel-lining but it's tricky because the metaliic finish can easily get damaged or come off if you use anything hot like enamel or lacquer. I'm thinking of using Vallejo's dark gray wash as I heard it's water based so it should be safe to use.
