HLJ says Variable Fighters Collection #2 is now in stock. My order for it has already been processed for shipping!

That Bandai only cares about Gundam. While it is very disappointing that Bandai has never supported MacII with any kind merchandise (save one model kit), we need to be fair in regards to that situation. Hopefully, the VF-2SS will soon be released as part of the VF100s line. Anyway, since this is a Yamato thread, a Gnerl fighter pod would certainly be something interesting. Of all the enemy mecha, it's one of the coolest looking. It certainly can't be that hard to make.

The continued belief of this nonsense is amazing.

Mohamed Baptism & The Savior666 Trinity Squad
Vifam7 replied to VFTF1's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As a fan of anime directed/created by Tomino, I love crazy sounding names for characters. It makes the characters all the more memorable. That said, such names should obviously used in the correct context/setting. If I were watching a slice-of-life anime that takes place in present day Tokyo, I certainly wouldn't want a name like "Amandara Kamandara" or "Quattro Bagina" to show up. Also, I would agree that there is a point where such ostentatious names can be a bit too much - especially when such names are used on everything and everywhere all alluding to some kind of hidden meaning. -
Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!

I have the EMSIA Zeta Gundam which requires a sh*tload of parts-swapping to transform into waverider form and back. Never had issues with it. There are a couple of major points which make the VF100s very enticing. Like scale, proportion, poseability, and yes even price. Everyone has different standards in what they want in a toy. -
Novels like Sir John Hackett's "The Third World War - The Untold Story" and Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" both suggest a scenaro in which the use of nuclear weapons is limited. IIRC, in both novels, the 2 sides do a tit-for-tat with each side getting a nuke attack on one city. The 2 sides then chicken out from using more fearing nuclear holocaust. The war ends shortly after with both sides agreeing to peace.

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Vifam7 replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Just watched 2 episodes myself. Best new show of the season. I'm sure this series will annoy some of those yuri-fan folks but I think this show is brilliant. Not to mention absolutely hilarious. -
I tried that myself and failed bigtime. Completely ruined my HG Murasame kit. I'd say start small. Like handbrush painting little places here and there to accentuate certain parts. For example, on my MG Zaku 2.0 the only thing I painted was the backpack thruster nozzles and the monoeye. Path to happiness and contentment via Gunpla. Sgt. Keroro approves.

You know - a nipper. Something like this: Amazon link X-Acto knife : Amazon link Basically used to slice-off those last little bits of plastic left on a piece to make that area flat. Those are dry-transfer decals. Basically what you do is cut the decal piece you want, lay it on the plastic piece you want the decal to go on (you might want to tape it onto the plastic so it wont move), then rub the top of the decal with a coin or something. The decal should transfer onto the plastic. These dry transfer decals easily flake/rub off so unless you're planning on spraying your kit with some kind of coating, I'd leave em in the box.

Ghetto style kit building! Used to build kits the same way long long ago. Reminds me of the old days when gunpla wasn't snap-fit and came with a mysterious packet (or was it a tube?) containing sticky yellow glue. Isn't it great that Bandai MG and HG kits are now snap-fit? You might at least want to get a flush cutting wire nipper though. And a X-acto knife. It'll make things a whole lot easier.
-
Um... are you using that toe-nail clipper to build your kit?

Personally I think they're wrongfully listening to the vocal minority.

The problem I think is not moe. The problem is that too often moe is combined with - unoriginal predictable stories, boring setups, stereotypical cardboard characters, rehashed plot devices, cliche comedy routines, etc. etc.

Actually, at the time of declaring independence, Zeon was a Republic. But machinations by the Zabi family converts Zeon into a dictatorship. Zeon then initiated an arms buildup. In January of UC 0079, Zeon unilaterally declared war on the Federation, proceeded to use NBC weapons on the colonies, and dropped a colony on Australia killing off half the human population. You are quite on the right track.- 3606 replies

Not to mention being cooped up in a cramped warship, eating crappy military food, and constantly being told what to do by people with guns. Not only that. In the Gundam world many of the young women are in uniform and in combat. Have you met Lt. Matilda yet? In a way, I see the Macross civilians like those of World War 2 generation (civilians that are fully supportive of the effort despite terrible sacrifices). Whereas the civilians in Gundam are more like today's post-Vietnam) generation who look at any kind of war with cynicism or outright contempt. It does make for a good anti-war message and you may be on the right track. But if you think Gundam is depressing, you ought to check out the Tomino directed anime - Zambot 3. Now that series was DEPRESSING and it showed the ugly (and perhaps a more realistic) side of a big giant super robot fighting a war. That will be revealed later. But take note of the last words he said to Garma.- 3606 replies

Not every Macross video release has been by Bandai Visual. My CLV laserdisc of DYRL was a release by Shogakukan Video. And I think the VHS releases of DYRL were by Victor IIRC. The first release of Flashback 2012 on DVD was by Movic. My Orguss DVD set is also a release by Movic. While it's not likely for DYRL to be released by someone other than Bandai Visual, it's also not impossible for another company to release it.

And hopefully miniskirts too. I'm actually waiting for a 1/72 revival.

A carrier battle group is a symbol of America's policies in the region backed up with real military strength that is on location. In the case of a carrier stationed in Japan, you just need to look at the history of what has happened in the region, issues that continue to persist, and America's involvement.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "HD Remaster" DVD sat on the shelves for months on end. First of all, the end product was crap. Secondly and probably more importantly, all the fans out there already had the 1999 Perfect Edition release which was just fine as it was. Only the hardest of the hardcore Macross fans were foolish enough to double dip (like me). A new and better remastered Blu-ray release will no doubt sell a few copies (though nowhere near as well as the 1999 DVD release). The big question is whether the current masters used by the authoring studios are up to task. I think the last HD remaster release showed not only a problem with the authoring but also the limitations of the currently used master tapes. The general law with DVD authoring - you throw crap in, you get crap out. The answer to a nice 1080p Blu-ray release is probably not digital restoration (as that often brings forth it's own set of problems) but rather going to Big West and asking for the film negatives or something so that a brand new master could be made and used at the DVD/Blu-ray authoring studios. Ofcourse that will no doubt also mean paying Big West big money which DVD/Blu-ray releasing companies like Geneon and Bandai Visual would be reluctant to do in this poor economy.

You'd also have to realize the sheer difference between the 2 ships as well. The SDF-1 was mega-sized ship that allowed for an entire city to be built inside. The White Base is a cramped warship which likely has little if any amenties for comfort. Being cooped up in a warship for days on end with little or nothing to do (plus rationed food) would indeed make the average civilian grumpy and restless.- 3606 replies

The Macross Quarter. DX Chogokin
Vifam7 replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Just to note - it was never said that it'll be exactly 20cm. The wording was very vague in the poster ad which only stated it'll be "big" and that the height will be "more than 20cm". And that the reasons for this size will be forth coming. It was a rather cryptic line and almost anything can be inferred from it. It's best not to take what was said too literally right now.
