Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.3
Vifam7 replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Strange. I haven't seen a single note about broken screws on the Japanese boards. But this is like the 4th time I've seen this issue pop up here. Perhaps some dealers are getting a bad lot? -
Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.3

I would imagine he did approve the old 1/65 M7 toys. Not good to use today's standards for yesterday's toys. Let's not forget, he himself designed the basic form for the old 1/55 chunky monkey. To be fair, not all collectors share the same values. -

That's true. But (if true), it does bring the question of who owns the design rights to the toy itself. Usually the side who did the grunt work has or shares the rights. As I wrote above, it could potentially be an opening to alternative versions. -

Wasn't that the model kit team? The one mag article I recall most is the one where Kawamori toured the factory. The same article I think mentioning how Bandai was gearing up the machines for another reissue of the old kits. -
Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.3

The idea that the DX toy was designed in China is a bit suspect. They may have had a hand in inputing modifications to make it more suitable for mass production but the whole entire design work? Very interesting if true. And if true that means Bandai had little involvement in the actual design of the DX toy. In other words, other than the Bandai (along with Big West's) stamp of approval, this isn't really a "made by Bandai" toy. It's a Bandai toy in name only. Also if true, wouldn't this toy be ripe for bootlegging? Or perhaps alternative marketing? Like how Matsushiro (who designed the original 1/55) was able to sell the Takatoku toy as a "Jetfire"? -

You're right, I'm wrong regarding Future and Tamiya. My memory was faulty. The "Complete Future" guide mentions that Tamiya doesn't mix well with Future.
-
Yes. Don't do it. From what I know, you should use Future mixed with Tamiya Clear Flat or Gunze's "Topcoat".

Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!

I'm focusing my money on these VF100's (I have 2 on order at HLJ). The landing gears really sold it for me. That and the scale size. -
Not necessarily. Take a hobby knife and carefully scrape the bottom of the canopy. Slowly scritch and scratch away the glue and plastic. In the future, don't use modeling glue to stick on the canopy. I use regular Elmer's white glue. Easy to come off if I make a mistake and it doesn't cloud up the canopy. Depends on the model kit. Hasegawa kits have a lot of shallow panel lines that are easy to disappear (particularly if brush painting). My suggestion is to not lay it on thick and keep the layers to a minimum. Don't worry if some panel lines disappear due to paint. IMHO not evey panel line needs to be lined.
-
I don't put primer on my models. I don't have an airbrush so putting on a thin layer of primer with a spraycan is next to impossible with my skills. Since I handbrush paint, I use enamels. Enamel paint is (IMHO) better for brush painting. If you've glued some part by mistake, the only thing you can do is saw the part back in half.

What are you trying to sand? Sandpaper should generally be used to "sand down" something. The highest grit sandpaper being the last to use to bring it as smooth as possible. If you're looking to polish the plastic back to it's shiny self, something like Tamiya Polishing Compound is more for that purpose. I wouldn't worry about light scuff marks and dull areas. Once you spray clear flat, those things get less obvious. (Yes, it's a cheat) In fact if you're not painting and/or not going to spray clear flat, it might actually be better to lightly sand the whole model. That'll might make the model a bit less toy-like. Not recommended ofcourse if you like the bright colors.

Indeed. My current builds don't even come close! I am so ashamed.

Look forward to it. I have the SPEC Dragonar and hope to get the Falguen in the near future.

I hope the canopy does not come blue. Wouldn't be a dealbreaker but it would be slightly disappointing. Odd. The show samples and box art has the canopy colored blue but the Tamashii site photos have it in the correct purple shade. -
Can anyone recommend 1/100 or 1/144 ground vehicles
Vifam7 replied to skonchboy's topic in Model kits
If you're looking for 1/144 scale tanks, look for Takara's World Tank Museum series on Ebay. There are also 1/144 scale tanks by Dragon (look under Dragon 1/144 or Can.Do 1/144) Zacca PAP also makes a series of 1/144 scale JGSDF vehicles. Link: http://hlj.com/product/ZAC82118 Other stuff like cars and whatnot could probably be found in model railroad accessories. I've read that N-scale model trains are close to 1/144 scale. For 1/100 scale, to my knowledge there isn't much. There were some 1/100 scale military vehicles in the Johnny Lightning/Military Muscle diecast toy series. Look under "1/100 Johnny Lightning" or "1/100 Military Muscle" at Ebay -

What kind of vehicles are you looking for? Tanks? Tractors? Cars? -
I just saw the price on this toy... Uh... are you sure you want to be modding this hyper expensive toy?

Neat! What scale is it? Are you going to panel line it? I saw a pic where someone panel-lined this toy and it looked amazing.

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru Witch from Mercury

No disrespect but you're completely wrong. One of the key components of the First Gundam story is Amuro's maturation as an adult. In a time of war, Amuro had to grow up fast. And Bright had to shape him up - to follow orders, be responsible, and know his place. Yes, Amuro was the key component of the White Base's success. But it was important him to know he had to be a team player. And that he can't just go and do whatever he pleases just because he's the best pilot on the ship. Bright had the right idea. Listen to what he says in the conversation with Mirai. Should Amuro get too cocky with what's he's accomplished and knowing he's a special person (ie. a newtype), it was possible that he could put himself and his mates in danger. Perhaps Amuro wasn't cocky but it was important for him to be told "don't get too high on yourself". Even Frau says "Baka na Amuro" when he's thrown into the brig. As for Bright's difference in treatment between Amuro and the women - well that's the difference. Amuro is a man. Mirai and Sayla are women. You don't treat women the same way as men (even in the military). Besides Mirai never did anything wrong. Sayla took out the Gundam without permission and got thrown into the brig. Amuro got the same deal. The one time Amuro got the slapdown from Bright was for dereliction of duty. Yeah, he was tired. So what. Piloting the Gundam was his duty/responsibility. Bright actually does give him some encouragement at the end of the slapdown - he tells Amuro that he believes Amuro can be someone who surpasses Char. In fact that line convinces Amuro to go out and be a man. By the time Char's Counterattack rolls around, Amuro is far more of an adult and man than Char.- 3606 replies

I have a question on the use of putty. What should I use to make it thin? Putty straight out of the tube is too dry. I want to liquify it a bit so it goes into the seams better. I've been mixing the putty with a bit of Tamiya Extra Thin Cement and it works rather well. Still, I'm wondering if I should use something else.

Umm... DYRL was an awesome the remake of Macross TV. Anyone who thinks DYRL "wasn't that good" should get their head examined. IMHO.

About $50~$55 not including shipping. If you're hurting for money, I'd suggest waiting until the strength of the dollar recovers. It's not like these toys are gonna go OOP anytime soon. Release date for the Alto VF-25 is late February. Amazon Japan has it as February 25th. -
Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru Witch from Mercury
Vifam7 replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
IIRC Bright wanted to take Amuro off the Gundam - to curb his cockiness. Amuro got pissed because he thinks Bright dissed him and/or no longer wants him. Not feeling wanted, Amuro jumps ship. You mean wrong thing to do. My biggest beef with modern animation is the lack of animation. I especially hate computer generated crap. SEED is a huge offender of using crappy looking CG animation. CG animation always feels to me like something cheap and a shortcut (I know it isn't, but that's what it feels like). There's something I like about animation that was done frame by frame in detail by hand. I'm not sure if I agree with your reasoning but there is something that makes "retro-ness" look right in a given show. I mean, heck, Macross too works on having a bit of retro to it.- 3606 replies
