    I'd say this is good news. I wouldn't mind getting the Macross Factory and the Armored Valkyrie kits. These old Imai kits are great for experiments and kit building experience. The article says that when Imai collapsed, many of the workers joined Bandai's model kits division. The guy being interviewed is one of the few remaining old guards. It's not far-fetched to say that the existence and knowledge of these molds were forgotten to time.

    Probably because there hasn't been a hot/popular non-Gundam robot design or accompanying anime series lately. If anything, the VF-25 from Frontier has the best shot. I wonder if Bandai is ever going to do another R3 kit.

    Are you sure you want to watch SEED? Actually, SEED isn't as bad as Double O (IMHO). Maybe save G Gundam for the end? This way, when you switch back to Macross 7, you get a show with the same kind of mood.

    It says it'll have a 'special' kind of transformation (ie. not the same as animation). So far it appears that the head is to be swapped but it seems to suggest something like one head is for transformation while the other is for looks.

    It'll be interesting to see what kind of shoulder design Bandai created. +1 I think it's fabulous that we have so many choices today.

    I don't believe downloading every last episode is necessary to find out if a series is worth buying or not. The first 4 to 6 episodes (sometimes less) is plenty enough for me to determine whether I'm going to like the series or not. Shoot, sometimes just a couple of pics and a short description is all I need to know to make a decision. For something like Mac7 where folks says it gets better after Episode XX, well, I personally don't care to continue watching or buy something in which the first half the show or a significant front portion is crap. I watched the first 6 episodes of Mac7, and hated it. I later came to like the Valkyries in the show (as toys), but I still don't care for the series. So I haven't downloaded or purchased the Japanese DVDs. I patched in my knowledge of Mac7 by other ways (books, magazines, web, etc).

    Exactly. The problem is, too many have become accustomed to getting the whole thing for free. Samples of one or 2 episodes doesn't cut it for this new breed of fans. No, they want all the episodes for free. There will always be folks who are willing to spend money. The question is whether there is enough of us. The industry won't survive if there aren't enough fans willing to spend money. Hard to determine anything from sampling MW, as MW is a small community dedicated to a specific property with a large emphasis on related merchandise.

    Agreed. Anime will live on in Japan. Outside Japan, distributors like ADV will continue to wither and/or disappear. The main problem with foreign distributors is 2 fold. One, they rely on a single source of income - the sale of DVDs and Blu-ray discs. Second, anime is steadily becoming a worthless product - a product that more and more fans no longer want to spend much money on. They don't care to support the creators and they don't care to spend money on anime. Fansub downloads is one of the root causes for this devaluation of anime. Meanwhile, the companies like Funimation continue on a faulty business model in which they try to sell more product in a shrinking market. Then they contribute to the devaluing of anime by making their releases cheaper and cheaper hoping to capture additional buyers that aren't there. The fact is there isn't enough supporters. The few of us who do buy isn't enough to prop them up and it isn't helping that they continually shoot themselves in the leg.

    Let me get this straight. So you disassemble the revoltech joint and put in a piece of paper into the mechanism to give it more friction? Or are you putting in a piece of paper into the hip hole where the revy joint goes in?

    I'm looking forward to getting one in my hands. The scale size and under $50 price tag (@Amiami) are a huge draw for me. The 1/60 Yamatos are really nice but they're just too big in size and too expensive for me to accept buying/collecting. I just hope this VFHM series continues to grow.

    Great post nexxstrait. We need more posts like this. Btw, which Fire Valk is the one in the back? Is that the old 1/65 Bandai or the old 1/100 Bandai model kit? And what's that gray one hiding behind the GNU 1J?

    Speaking of which, it's currently hard to find the GNU Hikaru VF-1J at a decent price. Most of the net shops seem to be out of stock on them.

    I've never heard of Gundamplanet.com. Are they reliable? Just wondering if they're a better choice than gundamstoreandmore or hobbywave for Gunpla.

    The Zeta Gundam was designed by Fujita Kazumi and Okawara Kunio. IIRC Okawara thoughtout the transformation.

    Before anyone pushes the panic button, the article mentions that this is still a pre-pro and that they are still working out how to get it sturdy (incl. get it to stand without support) as well as working out the gaps.

    I could probably figure out a way to fit the landing gears on without the base... Anyway, I'll take it. Better than no landing gears at all. The display base is decent looking too. I'm glad that the VF-1 is being done right. We'll see if the Blazer has improvements or simply rehashes the issues of the Fire Valkyrie.

    Well, that depends on you. Do you want it to be permanent? Or have the option of washing it off sometime in the future? If you don't seal it, the pencil markings will rub off with any kind of handling. But maybe that's just as well and enhance the worn-in look? If you do intend to seal it, I'd recommend using some kind of flat or matt coat. It wouldn't make sense to weather your Valkyrie then give it a shiny glossy overcoat. Also, if you're going to apply a sealant, make sure to mask the canopy and other clear parts.

    The answer is - no not really. Although Bandai tries to engineer the kits to be more toy-like, at the end of the day, they're still model kits. Meaning they're not good for any kind of regular play. More for display than play. Besides, once you spend a sh1tload of time building a kit up nicely, you don't really want to do anything that's gonna ruin it. Those MG kits take quite a long time to build up. Especially if you're going to paint and/or are the meticulous type.

    There is some rumbings about a Version 2.0 on Japanese boards... Unknown what the exact source of the info is but supposedly a recent hobby mag has Bandai saying that the VF-25 toy is "1st generation", prompting speculation that there'll be a "2nd gen" DX. Supposedly Bandai wishes to redo the VF-25? Who knows if it'll actually happen though. Btw I heard Sheryl appears in a VF-171 in the movie. I suppose that increases the liklihood of it becoming a toy or model kit.

    Fantastic pics David. Thanks for the link! Is it me or do the pics make the ship look rather small for an aircraft carrier? Doesn't look much bigger than the USS Intrepid (CV-11) in NYC.
