  1. Super Hornets could fulfill the role just fine I think. The problem would be the Aggressors and MiGs. US Navy Adversary squadrons currently fly F-5E/N's, Hornets, and F-16s. So the first movie's "MiG-28" (the F-5s) or the F-16s would have to play the adversary role because using Hornets would make it confusing to follow. The ubiquitous and well known F-16 shouldn't play the MiG role. Super Hornets vs. Legacy Hornets playing the MiG role? Even with different paint jobs, it could become hard to keep track of who is who.
  2. Japan's Top Gun ripoff - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyxxEClQBQI French movie with Mirage 2000s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o5knJxQn7A&feature=related
  3. Darn it, just when I thought I could ignore the 1/144 scale!
  4. It's an Alfa Romeo Carabo. Generally, if you're rich enough to own a supercar, you have someone else do all the annoying things in life for you.
  5. I personally like the aesthetics of this beetle-themed supercar than that of the Veyron.
  6. Shoji Kawamori himself has the rights to take Valkyrie toy transformation designs to whoever is making the toys. I mean, Kawamori is the one who formulates the base transformation system of all Valkyrie toys. That and the team that designed the Yamato YF-19 toy may have well been the team that designed the Bandai VF-19kai. Afterall, it seems that toy designing is contracted out and not necessarily done in-house. It was that way with the old 1/55 Takatoku toy too.
  7. To be fair, Yamato never did say that the T-Rex figure will fit the Regult. Nor that the Regult was sized to it. T-Rex figure won't fit but I'd wager that Yamato will in the near future come out with their own exclusive "sized to 1/60 Regult cockpit" Zentraedi figure. Or you could chop the feet off the T-Rex figure...
  8. I'd like the next Macross series to go back to its roots (ie. the original TV series). Not necessarily bring back Minmay and co. but rather the general simplicity the original series had. A series that's not filled with terminology or new alien life-forms or powers that's all somehow interconnected in the universe with Protoculture and whatnot. Perhaps a more down-to-earth human story. Like Macross Plus. One thing I don't want the next Macross to be is another BSG where it's all serious all the time.
  9. Japan and U.S. uses Region Code "A" for Blu-ray discs. Europe and Australia uses Region Code "B". As for the Gundam Unicorn Blu-ray discs, both the Japanese release and U.S. release are the same exact thing (not a single difference). Which means Blu-ray Region Code "A". Volume 1 of Gundam Unicorn was/is available through Amazon.com. Amazon ships internationally.
  10. Assuming the US does indeed purchase that many F-35s. I wouldn't be surprised if they drastically cut the numbers down.
  11. Why AIM-9P? To negate the all aspect seeker? Might as well make it guns only. Wasn't the A/F-X a 90's program that was cancelled but sorta provided a groundwork for the JSF (F-35) program?
  12. "First Gundam" or "0079" was originally a 43 episode TV series. It was then compiled into 3 movies. The 3 movies do a good job. The "bad guy of the week" element and the really corny mechs from the TV series are cut out, the story is tightened up, and the animation is improved.
  13. Try loading a codec pack like Matroska or K-Lite. That should allow you to play mkv files on most players (even WMP). Honestly though, you should just buy the cheap "Anime Legends" sets released by Bandai USA. Get them while they're still available. Chances of Zeta being released on Blu-ray, here in the US, is probably slim to none. Personally I would've recommended starting with the original 0079 movies trilogy. Only 3 movies to go through and pretty much the base of all the "UC Era" continuity stories. Also, Zeta would make a whole lot more sense if you watch the trilogy first.
  14. I really don't think F-22s or F-35s are cost effective aircraft for places like Afghanistan. I think the worry with some is that, should the US ever have to fight a country with a well equipped air force, they might not have enough F-22s or F-35s to make up for the difference in numbers. I guess more worrying if the opposing force has the potentially cheaper PAK-FAs or capable gen4.5 fighters and the F-35s aren't as good as LM advertises. BTW, why do the Marines need a STOVL jet (the F-35B)? I mean, have they ever had to operate from rough airfields that require STOVL? Desert Storm? Just been wondering if the F-35B is a waste of money.
  15. The problem with this list is that the writer used the term "mecha" and then just listed robots. Granted, when most westerner anime fans use the term "mecha", they're mainly referring to just robots - and mainly piloted combat fighting robots. But since the writer included sentient Transformers, you have to wonder if androids and cyborgs should be included as well (Doraemon, Cutey Honey, Astro Boy, etc.). And if one is taking the Japanese use of the term "mecha", it usually doesn't only mean robots (so cars, ships, airplanes, and other vehicles/machinery also apply). Among which one can include such things like the Mach 5 from Speed Racer, the Space Battleship Yamato ship, the wave motion gun, etc) With regards to the Evangelion, yeah it's technically not a robot. But, the show is considered/placed in the genre of "robot anime" in Japan.
  16. I don't know about that. They're spending a good amount of money refurbishing the molds and machinery so I would expect them to reissue these kits over and over from time to time.
  17. I've seen gloss olive green on cars.
  18. Certainly SOME of the things you wrote can be applied to SOME of the people. But you wrote it as a vast generalization. That's where you went wrong. I'm sorry, 5 years in Japan does not make you knowledgeable about Japanese society. Anyway to get slightly back on topic, expensive toys have always been around. Limited release items have always been expensive. Expensive garage/resin/multi-media kits by major manufacturers are nothing new. Shoot, back in 70's & 80's chogokins and stuff like Takatoku toys were owned by rich and/or spoiled kids. For the average kid back then, anything over a few hundred yen was way too much for their parents. Only on Christmas (if celebrated) or on a birthday, you MIGHT have gotten a chogokin. Keep in mind, paying something like $50 (IIRC the 1980's price for a Takatoku VF-1) for a toy back then is like paying $100 to $200 in today's money.
  19. LOL. What a bunch of BS. A whole lot of stereotyping and gross generalizations.
  20. While the offical design of the VF-25 may have some Gundam elements, the idea that Bandai somehow directly influenced the look is without any proof. Besides, Kawamori himself is a Gundam fan so it's not surprising he himself would insert a few elements. Also, while the DX VF-25 toy is chunky looking, the model kits and VF100s which are also made by Bandai, does not convey that image.
  21. Strangely, in the series it seemed like Jinpei and Jun simply slid down a chute to the main bridge as they went feet first. I can only remember Joe having to crawl or rather slide on his back out of his vehicle.
  22. Unknown. Yamato says nothing about exactly how big the pilot will be. On their website it says "battroid size". Now it could mean to say - near the same height as a 1/60 VF-1. Or it could mean "in relation to" a VF-1 battroid - which would mean a smaller figure. Yamato does not say the figure will be 1/60. Some folks assume it'll be similar to a figure made by TREX. As for whether a pilot will be included, Yamato website does not say. Personally, I'd just use a Figma or some other figure that'll fit in there.
  23. In comparison to the old VF-17 and VF-19, the new Bandai VF-25/27 toys are much better in terms of looks. The VF-27 toy in particular is considered top-notch. The VF-25 toy however, may have some details that might be disappointing. This site is a great place for photos and in-depth reviews of Macross toys.
  24. One more from classic anime. One of my favorite starship designs. Can you ID it?
  25. A canopy bow plus a brace on the top. Rearward vision does not look good too. Looks like the canopy does not offer good all around vision.
