This. Nice cheap alternative. Amazing how they much got it right way back then.

If the plastic feels a little slick, that's left-over mold release. That left-over mold release will cause paint to not stick to the plastic. I usually just wipe the parts with rubbing alcohol before I paint. Also, what kind of paints are you using? Some paints don't go well together.

Which one was it where the Sazabi was out of proportion size-wise with the Nu? HGUC or MG? I remember reading a review somewhere that said the Sazabi ended up being much too bigger than the Nu.

Is there a figure that's at or very close to 1/12 scale?

I am jealous. Looking forward to seeing those photos.

Or become like me and be a scale-size snob. 1/60 scale? Blah, nobody uses that scale size except Yamato and Bandai. What good is a Valkyrie toy if I can't display it alongside a F-14 or F-15 in the same scale? No more Yamatos and Bandai DX toys for me. Hi-Metals? No more for me as I found out they aren't actually in 1/100 scale. No 1/60 Yamato, no Bandai DX, and no Hi-Metals for me. At least for now. I'll change my mind quickly if a VF-2SS is released in one of those lines. Meanwhile, my money is going towards Hasegawa/Bandai kits in 1/72 scale (and maybe a few other kits in 1/100 scale).

Minmay fashion.

If you have the ADV set, there's really no need to get the AnimEigo set. They both use the same masters. Some say the audio quality is slightly better on the AnimEigo set since disc space isn't used for the dub track. Is the Emotion set better? That depends on one's view. One thing you should know is that both the Emotion set and 2008 remastered set does not include English subtitles. As for video quality, the 2000 Emotion set is probably decent. Better than the AnimEigo/ADV set? That depends on whether you feel that the mastering done by AnimEigo was overdone or not. Some feel that the colors on the AnimEigo/ADV releases are a bit off. Here's what the 2008 Japanese remaster set looks like: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCBA-3169

There were 2 different releases of Macross TV on DVD in Japan. One released in 2000 and one released in 2008. The 2008 release is the one that was remastered from the original 16mm positives. That's the one to get if you can find it. There was also a US release of Macross TV. One by AnimEigo and one by ADV Films. The AnimEigo release dates back to 2001 and was a digital restoration of the masters used by Harmony Gold. At the time, it was considered to be the best video representation of Macross (until the 2008 Japanese release). After AnimEigo's license expired, ADV Films picked up the rights and the restored masters. ADV released their set in 2006. The AnimEigo set comes with English subtitles but no English dub. The ADV set comes with both. Both the AnimEigo release and ADV release can still be found on the cheap.

The US never had a need for a canard fighter. When the Euro-canard fighters were being designed, the US already had the teen fighters in service and were already looking toward stealth. I think some of the advantages offered by canards were replaced by thrust vectoring and negated by the need for stealth.

IIRC it was not for "rough field" ops (like from dirt strips) but more for the fact that many of their airbases were crappily maintained and not built to high standards.

IMPO the landing gears and covers look awful. One thing the Russians and Chinese don't do well is make good looking legs for their fighters.

Just lightly wipe it down with a slightly damp soft lint-free cloth.

Favorite VF pilot? (not necessarily the best)
Vifam7 replied to Xx-SKULL-ONE-xX's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ah, but DYRL was just a "movie" in the Macross world. Rumor has it that Hikaru, Max, and Millia did most of the Valkyrie scenes in the movie. Hikaru did all of the Fokker VF-1S scenes. -

I don't think all of Gundam fits into that description...at least not the classic UC era series. It's more fitting of the alternate universe stuff. And I have to disagree about Roy being a better pilot than Hikaru. I think Hikaru was much better than Roy (esp.in battroid mode). Afterall he went toe-to-toe with Kamujin and did quite admirably against Britai in hand-to-hand. I'll stop here since this isn't the thread for who was the better pilot. -
Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie

But then it wouldn't explain the 1/100 model kit which was reported before the DX toy. Or why they're ignoring the superb 1/72 model kit. -
It's not cancelled. Gates said it's on a "2-year probation". http://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=62351

Definitely one of Mikimoto's best designs. My favorite too. Next favorite is Hikaru - because he gets to choose between Misa and Minmay. Lucky bastard. -
I have a number of diecast models that use gloss paint and they don't chip or scratch easy. Maybe gloss paint works better on diecast? I don't know, but considering the quality plastic Yamato uses, a gloss paint job or use of glossy plastic that don't scratch easy doesn't seem that difficult.

I kinda feel the same way. It's the same reason why I'm also hesitating in buying Bandai's SoC GX-57 Space Battleship Yamato and opting to go with the cheaper 1/500 kit. I'll have to think some more before committing to buy Yamato's 1/3000 SDF-1.

Worst Macross moment for me was when I purchased and watched FHE's Clash of the Bionoids VHS tape. About 20 years ago.

You mean like the majority of Macrossworld? With the market saturated with VF-1's (and it's not just the Yamato toys - there's the model kits too), it makes sense to release only the 2 main liveries that the average fan associates Valkyries with. In general though Bandai's "Collector's Division" takes a slower pace with product lines that's not named S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider or Robot Damashii Side MS. Their "Hobby Division" has a faster pace but mainly focuses on plastic models. For better or for worse, the Macross Hi-Metal line falls under the Collector's Division.

Pretty good price. I might be tempted to do a mod and reverse the wing sweep.

IIRC, you can see the DYRL SDF-1 do the punch in the DYRL PS1/Sega Saturn side-scroll shooting game.
