  1. Macross history Above question: Whose singing voice would be most effective as an anti-Vajra weapon?
  2. I can understand the feeling that anime has changed from what was shown in 1980s to what is shown today. But it is hard to exactly quantify what has changed. Loli characters, sex, violence, giant robots etc. - all of these elements were there back then and are still here today. Over time, things like society, people, ideals, etc change. Our own thoughts and experiences change too. And yeah, nostalgia plays a part too. So maybe it's the times or maybe it's just you, or both.
  3. You can cancel CDJapan orders. You just have to write to them. http://www.cdjapan.c...ordering.html#5 I just placed an order for this there. But just in case I'm going to keep my order at YesAsia.
  4. I've occasionally purchased DVDs and books from Amazon Japan. Amazon Japan usually ships via DHL so they arrive real fast. But, Amazon Japan doesn't pack items very well and DHL tends to handle packages rougher than EMS or FedEX. So, if you're concerned about even the most minor damage to the DVD box, go with CDJapan. Also, occasionally DHL will bill you for duties and taxes. I believe it'll depend on the value of the item.
  5. Very true. Also, don't forget the romantic triangle element. The "romantic triangle" is one of the base elements of every Macross series.
  6. I believe you are both wrong. All three of the above titles didn't have much merchandise when the OAVs were being released. OAVs pretty much count on video sales (LD & VHS at the time) only.
  7. Umm yeah... but aren't we fans of Macross 7? I'm sure that if we can handle Space John Lennon, we can also handle Space AKB48.
  8. I bit the bullet and placed the order at YesAsia. I figure that's about the price I'd have to pay if I purchased it on Amazon Japan or Yahoo Auction via a proxy buyer in Japan.
  9. Means nothing. Amazon Japan and CD Japan don't even have it up for pre-order yet. But those who want to panic can press this button
  10. No need for subtitles, haven't we all memorized every line from DYRL? In anycase, this is a must have Blu-ray. Hopefully the remaster is better this time, than what we got in the HD remaster DVD set.

    HI METAL LOVE THREAD

But Bandai showed that a solid transformable Valkyrie toy is possible with 1/100 scale. So there's no reason why it can't be done in 1/72 scale. Integrated landing gears is possible in 1/72 scale too. The 1980s Imai kit had them!

    HI METAL LOVE THREAD

Perhaps that's how it is with Macross. Perfect transformation Macross toys are only for those with money. Even in the 1980's, only the rich kids had the Takatoku 1/55s. Commoners like me and most of my friends had to do with the Imai/Arii kits. Who knows, maybe the future is in easy-build snap-fit kits like Gunpla, the Wave Macross kits, and such, for those of us with limited funds or the budget conscious.
  13. You made the mistake of watching the TV series instead of the more concise and tightly written movies trilogy. The movies are better animated and are more canon to the fandom and UC continuity. Some of the best animated robot action scenes ever are in those movies (right next to Gunbuster and DYRL IMHO). The angst isn't that bad in all of the 1980's Gundam titles. IMHO the angst factor starts to get annoying with Victory. And gets worse after Evangelion. Never try to rationalize anime reality. Macross had tons of faults too.
  14. Should there be a differences in shape between the VF-4 and VF-4G? Just wondering because so far, Yamato's drawing still has the canards too small, at the wrong angle, and in the wrong location for fighter mode.
  15. Well... yeah... but this is anime. Isn't whole point about the AKB48 fandom is that the fans get to see the cutesy real life girls perform live on stage at Akihabara? What's the point of seeing a 2D cartoon version? I assume none of the songs are going to be actual AKB48 songs or the characters voiced by actual AKB48 members. So, other than the title and license, there's not much connection to the real life AKB48.
  16. Perhaps the title of this series should be Akiba Macross 48.
  17. Awesome pics, ugly fighter. I don't see the J-20 being even close to the F-35's stealthiness with those canards up front. But I'm no expert.
  18. It's nice to know that there are still anime fans willing to buy anime on physical media and willing to support the industry. In my experience, the best place to buy anime Blu-ray/DVDs (that are released in the US) is rightstuf.com. They carry just about every US release and I've never had a problem with them. Their customer service is pretty good too. I've also heard good things about animecornerstore.com. For import Blu-ray/DVDs, I go to CDJapan.co.jp If you need to know which releases were good or bad, it's probably just better to ask or search at a dedicated anime forum like the one at fandompost or animenewsnetwork.
  19. That's just using a proxy buyer. Celga, Shopping Mall Japan, Rinkya, etc all offer similar services. If you're going to buy this way, make sure to find a store with a good low price because these services charge various fees which could add another 3-4 thousand yen to the total before shipping to your country.
  20. Good points. I'd also add that folks in Japan don't have this issue as much because they have numerous sources (both b&m and net shops) to go to if they want to buy a toy. Whereas most if us here have just Amiami, HLJ, and a few other lesser known operations. Who knows what the allotments are for Amiami and HLJ, or whether they even ordered the full allotment amount too. Shrug It's always been pretty hard to acquire popular toys from Japan when you're pretty much limited to Amiami and HLJ.
  21. I'll agree to a SDF Macross remake if you guys also agree to a remake of Macross 7. I request Fire Bomber to be replaced with Houkago Tea Time.
  22. I would say - Be careful of what you wish for. Whenever a remake is made, they always change something. And not always for the better. Some of the cherished elements which we currently hold dear as a fact from the original series could be messed with you know. And how much of a retcon will they add in so that it flows better with Macross Zero and Macross 7? Heck, it’s not even guaranteed that Kawamori would take the helm. Didn;t Kawamori once state that he doesn't want to revisit the Macross story? Would Mikimoto do the character designs? Would they use Haneda Kentaro’s music? Frankly, without Kawamori, Iijima Mari, Mikimoto, or Haneda, it wouldn't be quite right to me. To think they'd just reanimate and keep everything else the same is ridiculous. Never has that been done. Do you really want the Macross story to be tinkered with? Did Han Solo shoot first or not? I suppose they could animate Macross First, but that manga series isn;t over yet. And keep in mind that manga doesn't always convert over to anime line for line. I'm not completely opposed to a remake but as I wrote in the begining - be careful of what you wish for
  23. There are 3 main complaints about the Zeta Plus. 1. It's not fully painted. Like the Yamato Valks, the main color (in this case - white) is just the color of the plastic. 2. The landing gears themselves won't fully support the toy in Wave Rider mode. It's too tail heavy thanks to the heavy diecast legs and requires an ugly support piece to prop the rear up. 3. Expensive. Other than the above, it's a solid toy.

    Doujin in Japan

There is a few caveats with doujinshi though. One of them is that - you can not use official artwork or images without permission. No scans from books or even anime cells you've purchased. The original poster says he wants to use Mospeada artwork, Unless that artwork was drawn by him or his circle, I'd tread very carefully.
  25. Has this pic been seen here yet?
