Anime piracy is rampant because the English speaking fanbase demographic is majorly comprised of youngsters who have little money to spend and nothing beats getting anime for free online. Pricing something at a lower price point does not guarantee increased sales or profit. The fact is, not all anime are equal. There are reasons why Title X costs more than Title Y. The Japanese have been doing anime for a long time, they know how to stay in business. It's the American companies that recently have had difficulty staying in business. Yamato 2199 and Gundam Unicorn getting English subtitles was nice but don't expect it to be the norm. They'll add subtitles if and when they feel it's worth including. Not all titles are going to be worth adding English subtitles.

It might've been easier to simply brush paint those pieces. Also, Testors spraycan paints are crap. They tend to spray on unevenly and take forever to cure. Plus, since it's enamel, it's a PITA to remove if you mess up. I'd recommend using Tamiya's lacquer-based spraycan paints. Much faster to cure, much easier to spray on even coats and much easier to sand off if you mess up.

I hope the audio on Flashback 2012 in this release is better than what was on the last DVD release - which was absolutely terrible. I think the last time Flashback 2012 had good audio quality was on LD.

Help a Noob Build a 1/72 VF-25G in Red / Miria Colors
Vifam7 replied to kyan's topic in The Workshop!
To tell you the truth, I too was planning to repaint the Mikhail VF-25G into a red color but midway through priming the pieces white, I realized it'd be a whole lot easier if I started with the Alto kit. I'm using rattle spraycans, so I'll likely use Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red or TS-49 Bright Red (which I haven't been able to find locally or at Sprue Brothers). Not sure which is the better red to use. -

I'm actually planning to make a red Millia VF-25 as well. One thing though - Mikhail's VF-25G kit is pre-colored in blue so it's going to be a bit difficult to turn everything into red. Might be easier to use Alto's white VF-25 as the base and simply swap and repaint the head. -
I too broke that leg fin piece when I built my Arii 1/100 fighter. Used superglue to put it back together.

Bah, I don't mind what Mari said at all. She's more than just Minmay to many of her fans. I've moved on from her being just Macross' Minmay. She's a great singer and song writer. I'll always be a fan of hers no matter what she thinks of Macross.

This situation has pretty much become the norm with SH Figuarts, Figma, and many other toy lines. Once the initial production run stock is gone, you have to wait until the next production run - which could be months in the future.

Just watched my Blu-ray disc. The English subs are excellent. The 2 episodes were fantastic! This is definitely how a remake should be done. Every Starblazer/Uchuu Senkan Yamato fan should go and buy the Blu-ray disc.

Maybe it's the same guy who did this:

From what I've experienced, I've seen crossover between aircraft fans and Macross fans. I've also seen crossover between kit builders and static model collectors. I'm sure there's crossover between those who want transforming toys and non-transforming static models. I'm going to disagree with you that Valkyries can't be compelling in fighter mode only. Just my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
-
If people want completed models of F-14 Tomcats in 1/72 scale they should just build kits right? And yet those 1/72 scale completed diecast models sell like hotcakes. The Alter Yukikaze may not have had the gimmicks like Yamato's 1/60 toy but it had way more detailing and it was absolutely well worth the expense. I'd kill to have Valkyries done to Alter's Yukikaze level. If that's the case then why were the Hasegawa kits such a huge hit?
-
Bandai got those 2 elements included in the VF-1 Hi-Metal. I said it before and I'll say it again - what's needed is a line of inexpensive fighter-mode only toys (IMHO). Forget perfect transformation - leave that to Yamato's 1/60 line. The majority of Macross fans like their Valkyries in fighter mode and IMO there should be a lower price option to Yamato's 1/60 line.

Because perhaps it might be good to know who these characters are in the context of this movie (ie. who/where they are now, not what they were in a previous movie). To be fair, my lack of knowledge of the Marvel universe and having not watched the Iron Man, Thor, or the Hulk movies may have something to do with what I wrote above.

I'm not an American comics fan so I saw it with very little knowledge of the Marvel comics universe. I filled in a few blanks after the movie by reading a few wikipedia entries and watching the Captain American movie on Blu-ray. ^^; Avengers was a "superhero group" movie so I wasn't expecting it to be a deep thought provoking poignant movie. Nor did I want it to be such. Personally, I thought the movie was exactly what it ought to be - a bunch of superheroes being larger than life, both good guy and bad guys being haughty, and ofcourse the good guys saving the world in the end. On a side-note, I also found the Captain America movie to be superb. If there was a criticism, I might say the movie had perhaps one too many superheroes. Had they contained it to just 3 or 4 superheroes, there might have been more time to flesh out each of the characters a bit more.

Hmmm... when I get home from work today, I'm going to check my copies of MyAnime. I have a few and they were definitely from the mid-1980s... Ack, my copies were from 1985.

Same here. Everytime - from the days of raw VHS copies to today's Blu-ray discs. Probably my most watched anime next to DYRL and Porco Rosso.

I doubt the series was made with airline aficionados in mind. I screened the first episode. I do like the period "feel" of the series. It's Hollywood so ya gotta let things like accuracy slide. But I think the series might be a bit too light and escapist fantasy for today's crowd who seem to desire more gritty or somber tones in their drama shows.

The one element Macross II did right was the music. The OP/ED songs as well as Ishtar and Wendy Ryder's songs were all pretty good. Obviously not as great as Minmay's songs but then it's really not fair to compare.

I haven't flown enough to know which airlines are the best or worst, but I've never had a bad experience on my flights to Japan. All of the domestic flights I've taken were nothing special. In general though, the best flights are those in Business/First class. Next best (if you're in Economy class) is an empty flight where you can move about and occupy several seats in a row. Worst is when the flight is packed to the gills and you're in Economy. I don't know if anyone would agree but I liked flying in the 747-400s than in the newer 777s when going to Japan.

Is anyone concerned that the video quality on the Blu-ray/PS3 combo disc might not end up looking too good? Just wondering if having the PS3 game on the same disc could eat into space that could've been used for video quality...

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Vifam7 replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So, what anime would you consider to have a sadder ending? Not that I disagree with your viewpoint. Just curious. -
Reminds me a bit of the anime "Super Atragon". And those spinning disc things... idea taken from Gundam F91?

Is that a 1/48 scale kit or 1/72 scale kit?
