But then few have ever really been given the chance to design Valkyries. Only in MacII was someone else utilized and that was over 20 years ago. Personally I would not short-change the robot mecha designers in Japan. But, if it's a concern then perhaps it would be good to nurture a cadre of new Valkyrie designers now instead of continuing to rely on Kawamori. But then the question would be whether fans would ever accept anything other than a Kawamori led Macross anime. If not, then the Macross franchise, for better or worse, would be somewhat limited in how it could grow in the future.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Vifam7 replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Sentai should've simply included them along with the main show release. Afterall, those "OVAs" were basically just short omake clips that were included on the Japanese discs. The other two were 1. Keizoku Koukou - "Continuation War" High School. Continuation War : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuation_War . 2. Chihatan Gakuin - "Chiha Academy". Chiha refers to the Type 97 'Chi-Ha' tank. -

A new straight to video (OVA) episode is going to come out this summer. It'll be about the battle with Anzio High, which was not fully shown in the TV series. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/BCXA-886 A theatrical release is also in the works. Here's my Anglerfish Team. -
Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru Witch from Mercury
Vifam7 replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not sure what kind of story the anime version is going to tell but the manga version is mostly a re-telling of the 0079 First Gundam anime. The story behind the Char/Casval character is a story arc that takes places mid-way through the series. I'm pretty sure the anime series isn't going to only concentrate on that story arc as that would hurt Bandai's desire to selling more model kits. But I can understand the anime version starting with the Char background story as it's new and something that has not yet been told in anime form. Also, it works chronologically.- 3606 replies

I don't know if anyone was able to read the ad in the very first post but it clearly says "kit". It's not a toy, it's model it. A resin model kit*. Think of this as a limited issue garage kit. Hence the high price. * using colored resin - so it doesn't have to be painted ** the ad does also say it will transform

It depends on what generation kids you're talking about. Macross was a smash hit for the 80's kids. The problem was that there was a long gap between DYRL and next successful Macross TV anime - Macross7. There were kids who watched Mac7 in 94-95 but by then kids did not really care much for transforming toys or plastic models. Today, the core of Macross toy and plamo buyers are 30-something 40-something age men (ie. the kids who watched Macross back in the 80s).

The biggest issue to overcome would be Big West giving approval and HG wanting to make any deal with Big West. Neither is likely to happen.
-
Big difference in age too! That Arii kit came out like 30 years ago! There was a 1/100 scale non-super packed transformable model by Arii back then too. I've never been able to find one though.
-
Thanks everyone for the kind words. Putting it next to the old Arii was my main drive to build this kit.

Finished my Wave 1/100 scale VF-1S! This was a relatively quick build (for me). About 2 months from start to finish. The buildup of this kit is relatively easy. It’s mostly snap-fit. Some parts do require glue however. The fit is decent but not quite to the level of Bandai gunpla precision. I would suggest that in some areas, the snap-fit pins should be cut off entirely and instead the parts be glued together. I did not do this and thus some areas on my build got a bit gappy. Made a slight change to the main landing gear covers. I’m a leg man and I wanted the main landing gear legs to show. The main color is Model Master Light Gray (FS36495) enamel that was brush painted on. Tamiya Gunmetal (TS-38) was used for the foot thrusters. Tamiya TS-6 for the black part on the tailfins, the gun, and parts of the wing stripe. I had problems with the decals. I don’t know why but they were constantly cracking or breaking apart while I was adjusting the placement. I then learned that Gunze’s Topcoat doesn’t quite seal the decals like Tamiya’s TS-80. The decals were flaking off on my fingers! I found out that the best way to deal with this was to apply a thin coating of Topcoat to the decal, then apply Microset, then apply another coat of Topcoat. I pretty much had to paint much of the black wing stripes after they crumbled off. I was real lucky that the UN Spacy kite survived. Also, some of the decals like those for the tailfins and ventral fins were poor fitting. They just didn’t line up at all. I made a mess out of the ventral fins. After that, I decided to simply paint the tailfins. That all said, I like the details and the sculpt is excellent. It’s a modern kit and definitely several steps above the old 1/100 Arii. Save for the decals, it’s a relatively easy kit to complete. The scale goes great with Gundams and other sci-fi mecha models. And now for some pics. I hope I'm not posting too many. Next to the old Arii kit that I built several years ago

A pinned models thread in the anime/sci-fi section would be wonderful.
-
Actually it should be the other way around. Take the Hi-Metal and scale it up to 1/72 scale and release it in kit form. The Hi-Metal has excellent proportions and is solid. It's construction is relatively simple too. Bandai would have no problems making it into a kit.
-
Why not buy both? Personally, I find much enjoyment in building and comparing various makes. As always, there are positives and negatives in every kit.

Carlo Kopp has a tendency to overhype up the capabilities of Sukhoi fighters. He is not exactly the most credible source (to put it mildly).
-
You won't want it in 1/60 scale. A 1/60 scale Orguss won't be much bigger than a 1/100 VF-1 or 1/144 scale Gundam.

If Yamato had only started with fighter mode models, the GNU line might've done better.

It doesn't have English subtitles but it does have the English dub. I purchased mine from CDJapan. Although it's cheaper at Amazon Japan, I always choose CDJapan as they pack better. -

The remastered Blu-ray box of Noir arrived today! Hard to believe that it's already been 10+ years since Noir first aired. Still one of my all time favorites. I'd love to have a Figma or SH Figuarts Mireille and Kirika. -
I have 2 Hi-Metal VF-1s. Both are them have no issues. Hi-Metal VF-1s were not a QC riddled line. The bigger issue is lack of availability and what is available is waaaay overpriced. Judging from what I see on Ebay that is. Prices might be better at Mandarake or Yahoo Japan.

The F-4 Phantom had semi-recessed missiles. The design of the VF-4 was perhaps inspired by this McDonnell Douglas concept.- 278 replies
