  1. Is that the MG or HGUC F91? He might want to pull out the shoulder wings. It'll make the F91 a bit more interesting. I think F91 looks best when white and clean. I put very little effort in my MG F91 and it turned out ok.
  2. My first exposure to DYRL was summer 1984. That year I was in Okinawa. I remember watching the commercial for DYRL on TV and wanting to go see it (because Macross was hot stuff back then and all the boys were talking about it). Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it at the theaters as end of July was when I was heading back home to the US. I finally got to watch DYRL 5 years later via a VHS tape recording of DYRL that aired on TV. I hadn't seen Robotech or Macross TV before so I went into DYRL without any prior knowledge (other than it had transforming fighter jets). It didn't matter, the story, the animation, the character designs, the choreography, the songs... it all totally blew me away. Ever since then, DYRL is the standard to which I judge all other anime. Very few anime match what DYRL accomplishes (IMHO).
  3. That's still a heck of a lot cheaper than what I paid for the LD box sets back in the day...
  4. Any Valkyrie would be cool so long as it doesn't come along with a Zentradi, Protodevlin, or Vajra attack.
  5. That little fin at the lip of the intake is almost guaranteed to break off due to my clumsy handling or simply putting it on the table without the undercarriage out.... ;
  6. Loudest jet I've ever heard was the Concorde at take-off. It was so loud that it was rattling my ribcage. Darn shame that they were retired.
  7. OAVs (direct to video animation releases) generally do not get much merchandising support. Gundam 0083 which came around the sametime as Macross II was a huge success, yet all it got (IIRC) was five 1/144 scale kits. OAVs basically depend on the sales of DVDs and Blu-ray discs (or VHS tapes and laserdiscs back in the day). To my knowledge, the reason why Macross II was cast off from the canon timeline was because when Kawamori came back to do Macross, he didn't want to work within the constraints of the post-DYRL canonity that Macross II and various PC98/PC Engine games had somewhat established. Keeping in mind that until Macross Plus/7 arrived, the DYRL timeline was considered to be the canon timeline.
  8. The Japanese wiki page does mentions its sales success a bit (the Japanese releases that is). Trans. : Original staff member Ichiro Itano said "If it was not for Macross II, I would not have done Macross Plus. Macross II did not make links to what we thought was Macross. However, sales [of Macross II] left a satisfactory result, according to Ohata "Sales surpassed predictions and the sponsors even talked about a Macross III" The quote by Kouichi Ohata references Figure Oh Issue #43. The above quote does kinda make sense. I mean if Macross II bombed then I would imagine that it'd be difficult for the Macross Plus OVA series (which came very shortly afterwards) to get sponsorship funding. But I've always thought Macross II sold quite well (at least in Japan). Over here in the states, I could understand the quick poor reception due the truly horrid dub and "movie" version hack job.
  9. From what I've heard, Macross II OAVs sold very well. BW was probably quite happy with the profits.
  10. I'm waiting for the Sanrio combiner.
  11. Thanks! I knew I heard it on CD before. I haven't pulled out my Macross the Complete in years (probably more than a decade!) so I completely forgot about the BGM tracks in Disc 3.
  12. I found what I was looking for on Youtube. Do any of Macross soundtracks have this track? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZtS5sPm5r4
  13. I remember hearing the instrumental version of the ED song "Runner" but I can't remember if it was ever on a certain soundtrack album or not. If it was, which CD album? Anyone know? I have the SDFM bgm collection CD, but it's not in there. Info appreciated.
  14. I paid full price plus EMS shipping from HLJ and don't regret it one bit. That's how much I like GX-64.
  15. Unfortunately, it's the price we have to pay for a niche product and a brand that has limited market presence.
  16. A true classic. Recommend the manga too.
  17. It's available at HLJ as well. http://www.hlj.com/product/WAVMC-64/Sci If the prior kits are anything to go by, it should be a pretty decent kit.

    1/48 dead?

I should've purchased more of the 1/48s when they were on sale at HLJ many years ago. The best thing about them (IMO) is the fact that 1/48 is an established aircraft model scale.
  19. Each girl is a anthropomorphized representation of a ship. This comes from the PC game "Kantai Collection". An anime adaptation is slated to come out very soon.
  20. I think he is saying that the market in Japan is different and thus operates on a different business model. While this is true, his defense of of how wonderful the RT franchise is doing (or will be doing) is absolutely laughable.
  21. Any guesses as to Skye's ? If she is one...
  22. It's too bad Haneda Kentaro is no longer with us. If they're animating Macross the First, Kawamori ought to bring back Haneken's music from SDFM & DYRL (perhaps slightly rearranged like they did with Miyagawa's music in Yamato 2199).
  23. Same here. To be honest, I think this is the first time I'm purchasing Macross2. Never had it on VHS, LD, or DVD. I think the last time I watched it was as a VHS rental back when I was in Okinawa...
  24. I don't hate Bandai. I don't love Bandai. I buy what I like and what I want. If I can't get it, I can't get it. If they don't offer what I want, I move on. Their loss. No big deal.
  25. The next Macross series will consist of a cast of only Meltrans. It'll have a yuri romantic triangle and all the Valks will be VF-11MAXL variants. j/k
