  1. Darn it, I wish still had my ancient off-air VHS recording of DYRL. The first time I saw DYRL was such a copy and I'm almost sure the head gore was in the TV broadcast as well.

If you guys want to see all the pics from Dengeki Hobby's website, it's here: http://hobby.dengeki.com/news/120588/
  3. Awww, that's too bad. I would've totally been on board for an all-girls singing-fighting pilots group. Personally, I immediately thought "Pretty Cure in Space". Maybe the girls are the VF-31s. Like virtual idols who live inside the mecha? Sharon Apple as a Valk if you will.
  4. The Apollo 13 Saturn V release was on blowout sale at HLJ last year (around June). Like 60% off. I have the Apollo 11 release but missed out on the Shuttle Endeavor. I'm also hoping that Bandai releases the shuttle model again.

Miyatake wants the Quel-Quallie, Q-Rau, and the Battle 7 in the HMR lineup. Make it happen Bandai.
  6. Kinda reminds me of how I thought the U12 Stanza was a better car than the L30 Altima. Of the older Nissans, I particularly like the styling of the boxy F31 Leopard (aka. Infiniti M30).
  7. One company that was not listed above but is included in the "Macross Modelers" brand is Aoshima. http://macross.jp/news/?id=79 Aoshima is known for ship models so maybe we'll see a kit of Daedalus and Prometheus in 1/700 scale? Tomytec seems to have already begun their part by announcing VF-1s for their 1/144 scale Gimix line. As have Hasegawa with the TV SDF-1 and Super Messiah. I'd like to see Wave expand their 1/100 scale kits lineup.
  8. Dang, That interview/writeup makes me regret not buying the Megahouse Hi-Spec Orguss.
  9. Nosecone should placed at the crotch area sticking straight out with a laser gun right at the tip. Pew pew pew.... j/k
  10. I've been building/collecting the 1/144 Tomytec kits for some time now. They are absolutely fantastic. The fit and finish is 100x better than the F-Toys stuff. I believe the kits are co-developed by Hasegawa as they are given credit on the boxes. Here's my Tomytec Gimix F-4EJ Phantom

Even the subtitle text is the same - such as the "variable fighter super real model" line.
  12. My post was more in terms of the niche-ness within that of robot anime fandom rather than in comparison to general mainstream popularity.
  13. Actually, in Japan, Macross is extremely well known amongst the 1980s generation. During the mid-1980s, Macross was HOT property. When the 80's generation of Japan talk about the golden age of real robot anime, the top 3 titles would be Gundam, Macross, and Votoms. Probably in that order. Macross toys aren't that niche. In terms of robot toys, only Gundam and Transformers gets a more varied and expansive lineup. Just about every iconic Valkyrie type seen on screen has been done as a toy or kit. The VF-1 particularly has been done in a multitude of ways. Few robot anime properties have the consistency or longevity of Macross. What Macross fans have gotten is far better and more than most other robot anime.
  14. Not to mention that the development of the Concorde was subsidized by the French and British governments. No Western government is going to do that today. And there's no way Boeing or Airbus is going to risk their own money on a supersonic airliner.
  15. The 1/500 scale 2199 Yamato is in stock at GundamPlanet.com.
  16. No. Studio Nue did not do any actual animation work like key animation, in-betweens, and cel-painting.
  17. One thing that was mentioned in the podcast and I thought I'd bring up here is the licensing costs. The podcast mentioned that Arcadia has to re-negotiate for every single license. I imagine that this can be a very difficult for a small company like Arcadia that does not have a lot of cash to play with (unike say Bandai). Arcadia being a small company probably isn't capable of paying an extensive license fee to Big West. BW in turn will likely limit what Arcadia can and cannot do, and/or limit their license period. In other words, Arcadia has to get as much out of each 1/60 toy release. (whereas Bandai likely paying a bigger fee has more rights and thus more opportunity or angles to make money on a license)
  18. Didn't the Navy also, sort of, put themselves in the situation by massively frakking up the A-12 program?
  19. Gunbuster doesn't rank into the Top 30? ;_;

It's not 1/100 scale. It's more like 1/90-ish scale. The 2010 Hi Metal release stated 1/100 scale but the reality was that it was not.

As simpler fix is to just add a bit of paint. The pilot figure is clearly a DYRL Hikaru. The blue part on the helmet needs to be covered up and just add black trim to the helmet, shoulder lights, and body suit.
  22. I don't believe that all Macross toys must have perfect transformation*. Arcadia and Bandai's 1/60 scale products fill that niche just fine. My feeling is that a separate market is out there for detailed fighter-only Valkyrie models in a smaller scale. Admittedly, since no company has yet to try this approach, it's just my gut feeling**. However, pre-built models can be very popular these days as many folks simply don't have time or skills to build kits. Also, if Alter can release 2 highly detailed models from a rather obscure OAV series, Arcadia can do much better with Macross (in my opinion). * The problem with perfect transformation is that it leads to higher costs and compromises in the sculpt and detail. ** Most of those smaller scale stuff released in the past failed because frankly they were not well made. Most of them were over-priced, poorly conceived, flimsy/floppy, and/or had little or no detail. No where near the quality exhibited by the Alter Yukikaze models.
  23. Or how about, smaller simpler toys with more detail? How about some 1/100 scale Valkyrie fighters that don't transform but has every last marking tampo printed on, like a pro-built Hasegawa? Alter made 2 fantastically detailed Yukikaze aircraft models. Completely built, painted, and all markings tampo printed on. Plus tons of optional ordnance. an included stand, and an option for displaying in flight or on the ground. All for just over US$100. If a small outfit like Alter can do it with Yukikaze, Arcadia can do it with Macross.
  24. She did.
  25. I just found this on the web. Pin Point Barrier GO! Here's a Macross quiz. What are names are the three girls that operate the Pin Point Barrier system?
