Never really paid much attention to them when I began collecting Macross. All my heart and wallet had gone to Yamato 1/60. More heart and wallet after the 1/48 came out. Today finally decided to open 4 of Bandai's 1/55 Valkyries which I had intended to keep MISB. Oh, what the heck, keep MISB for what, I was thinking. They're not my real love. Open damit! Open! So now inside my display cabinet there are VF-1A Hikaru, VF-1J Hikaru, Super VF-1S Hikaru, & of coz VF-1S Roy. After taking a good look at them, I suddenly feel that, hey, they are not so bad afterall. As compared to Yamato, they are: 1) Cheaper 2) Most of the markings are painted. No need to apply stickers. 3) Much better quality plastic/ material 4) Easy to transform 5) Much more durable for play. i.e. more lasting 6) And I love playing with the wheels, although I had to be careful of my thumb. 7) No QC problem like that of Yamato's If you just place 1 Bandai 1/55 together with the rest of Yamato's, of course it'll look out of place. But when you place several pieces of them together, they actually look quite impressive. Now I'm considering getting VF-1A Production, VF-1J Max/Millia. I know VF-1A Production is cheap Something like S$60 Only (Singapore dollars). But the market price for Max/Millia is about S$300? That's a bit too much IMO. The most I'm willing to fork out is S$200. Even S$200 I'd had to consider. Anyway, I feel that Bandai 1/55 should deserve more attention. And somebody should seriously tell Yamato to improve their QC.

The guns are molded in white plastic. There are many other minor parts that need painting or detailing / touching up. An unpainted and un-panel lined MG Ingram doesn't look as good as an unpainted MG Gundam due to the lack of colors. funny, but all my MG Ingram kits have the gun moulded in black. not white. only that electric baton is moulded in white.

yep. MG kit. There is a MG kit Ingram#2 with LED included. http://www.toy-wave.com/cgi-bin/store/comm...6&pid=192&ppi=1 They also sell the LED separately, for those other Ingram kit without the LED. http://www.toy-wave.com/cgi-bin/store/comm...&pid=1091&ppi=1

If it's really just plain old Strike, maybe i'll have to buy this 1/60 Strike Gundam Striker Weapon System just for the weapon set http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?BAN917987 It MUST come with more weapons. it MUST. it just MUST. wait wait wait. i just hope Bandai won't market it like the PG RX-78-2 or Zaku. Sell them plain first and then sell their additional weapons on a separate package. i'll be damn if they really do that.

News from Gunota: Wonder does it comes with the Striker Weapon System.

Thanks Noel. I did consider that setup before. But I can only use small size lighting as the space is limited. Anyway, I'm not looking for an option to light up my collection. I just want a little background light to make the display looks a little nicer. I'm from Singapore. Hey, those lights looks great. They might just be what I'd been looking for for the past months. Maybe I'll change to those when I got tired of the LED lights.
-
Yep, it came with the cabinet. got it at a small local furniture store. not cheap though. kinda regret getting it coz 1) the lights damaged too easily, and they are too tedious to change. 2) the shelf height is not adjustable 3) the original glass door have big gaps, easy access for dust. haha. gundam still my main collections. and i prefer admiring my toys to playing with them.

there's a place in my country that sells all sort of electronics stuff. Got all the connectors, cables and LED there. I initially wanted to get blue LED. But I can only find green and red LED in different sizes and shapes. now I need to make a more stable 3V power supply.

This was how it looked like: Old cabinet This is how it looks now: New cabinet 2 things I changed. 1st is the glass doors. Used to be 2 panels per cabinet. But i feel that there's 3 big gaps (2 sides and middle) that allows easy access for dust. So I just buy a big piece of glass to cover the whole front. there's no hinges for easy opening and closing of the door. I just used 6 L-clips to secure it to the cabinet. Yes, it's very troublesome to remove glass door now, but I'm not going to open/close it often. Maybe only when I change the moisture absorber every 2~3 months. Then also take the chance to add in my new collections + maintance of my toys. Plus this way, I'll have no worries of kids in my house. Not mine, my nieces, and those of my friends. No worries of itchy hands. 2nd is the lighting. A real pity. Coz the blue lights is why i bought this cabinet in the first place. But the lights damaged VERY easily. I switched on all the 12 lights for just 1 whole afternoon and already 4 was spoiled. Next day switch on for another few hours, another 2 spoil. And it's very very toublesome to change it. Got to shift and open the cabinet from behind. Initially wanted to buy a more lasting lighting system, but later changed my mind to using LED. A few reasons. Firstly, LED, it's dirt cheap. 2nd, from what I know and experience, LED are very very lasting. 3rd, LED consume very very little power, so no worries on the electric bill. Cabinet seen in the dark With a little surround light. And I also take this chance to connect all my model kits LED system together. So when I switch on the supply, some of my model kits will light up. PG Wing Gundam PG Gundam RX-178 MkII (The sword that lights up belongs to PG Zeta) PG Zeta and RX-78-2 MG Patlabor Ingram 2 I know it's not bright enough. But I'm not keen to install halogen lighting as I fear it'll damage the toys. I just want to have a little background lights for my cabinet. So what do u guys think?

how many of you buy doubles of your toys?
jonwayne replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
only buy doubles for the good stuff. so that i know i have a new piece even when the displayed one is yellowed or damaged. -
r u toking about their toy/model kits or the anime? coz i see them as separate enities. i love gundam model kit coz i love their mecha design. not all, but several. my fav is Wing 0 Custom and Deathscythe Custom. But I dun really like Gundam Wing anime. irony isn't it? i'll continue to collect gundam model kits despite how the anime turns out.

Is no one expecting a 1:48 Elintseeker? I sure hope Yamato makes one.

you guys mean that the model kit or discast toy available now are all vintage? they must cost a fortune then. damn. i was thinking of getting a few. i like that purple walker like mecha. reminds me of AT-AT walker. so what's the price now like? anyone willing to let go of a 1/48 model?
-
I used to have a few cheap model kits many many many many many many years ago. Threw them away many many many years back. silly me. until recently saw this release by CMS: http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?CMS65010 just wish to see if there's any bigger model or resin kit or diecast toy of these around. anyone?

What's your collection philosophy?
jonwayne replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
i like big mecha, but quality do matter too. I love 1/60 PG gundam, but I don't buy 1/60 HG Ex gundam. 1/48 yamato macross, YES! -
i only want more PG.

errr... i meant gundam. i also have those MG Patlabor. but i'd not seen any MG Gundam that is not 1/100.
