Whats your favorite dirty pleasure Scifi flick?
Mr March replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Road Warrior. I love that film. -
I'm listening to absolutely everything in this thread. Even the ridiculous theories and misinterpretations of SDF Macross.
-
Interesting. I kinda like this second one better.
-
LOL! I like that cartoon

Christmas has FINALLY arrived! Were you naughty...
Mr March replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm spending Christmas with my parents whom I haven't seen in 6 months. It's great. Oh yeah, and I got some great DVDs, including Lawrence of Arabia two disc set -
Uh, it can penetrate more than just steel. The VF-11 in Macross Plus used an anti-mecha Bayonet that could penetrate Over-Technology armored mecha.
-
Very nice. I like it.

Very true. The canopies in Macross fighters have survived impacts and damage that would crush any conventional substance our current military hardware use for canopies. Hikaru's many crashes, Hikaru's dive through a bridge in DYRL?, Isamu's crash in the VF-11, et cetera.

That depends on what ships you're talking about and assuming the ships of Star Wars need to rely on visuals like the comparatively primitive fighters of our modern militaries. The Imperial's basic Star Destroyer design is actually one of the most simple and practical capital ship hulls to ever appear in any science fiction film or show. Both the pilots of X-Wings and Tie Fighters have been seen using artificial displays for in flight target acquisition. If you've got that (even under intense sensor jamming common in Star Wars) there's little need to look out the nearest window. In the case of high speed/long range combat, visual targetting limited to the line-of-sight of the human eye is actually a disadvantage.

Very nice! That's a great merging of classic and prequel technology. Very Star Wars-ish

Yeah she looks good even with one eye... I can watch her for two hours even if she was just washing dishes... the whole movie was done with actors infront of blue screen. Not that you can't tell... I think it's just more to do with Jolie in general. The eye patch works for her because it's ridiculous and weird...much like Jolie herself
-
I like Jude Law, but this film looks incredibly cheesy. Oddly enough, the eye patch really works for Jolie

That's cool. I always wondered if that odd section within the wing was actually a seperate piece or just an over done panel line.

Somewhat true, to an extent. However, the more well read a person becomes, the more chance there is you'll find something new and interesting that hasn't been done yet. Every time I introduce someone to anime, it reminds me well of the times when I knew very little of the medium. Don't be afraid to explore and you'll be rewarded.

To be fair BoB, I wouldn't be so quick to harp on the Macross 7 detractors. Having to listen to the Macross 7 diehard fans is just as bad as listening to the critics endlessly bitch and moan about how horrible Macross 7 is, yet they can't seem to stop discussing that fact. As a Macross fan who's only seen the first 5 episodes, it's most annoying to endure diehards vehemently tout Macross 7 as the true vision of Macross, only worthy sequel, you-don't-understand-Macross-if-you-don't-like-7 diatribe, blah, blah, blah. It seems like far too much political force feeding to me. Problem is, this happens in every franchise. Why is Voyager a laughing stock among Star Trek fans? Why is Return of the Jedi the most harshly critiqued of the original three Star Wars films? Why is Gundam Wing a black mark for most Gundam fans? Why is fifth season of Babylon 5 so fiercely contraversial? There's always a weakest link in every franchise, and whether individual fans agree or not, Macross 7 is the weak link of the Macross series. Ever since the show has been released, it's been nothing but bad press. It's not important if fans from either side say it's true or not, or if people disagree with me for even stating this much as fact about Mac 7. It's perception and reputation, nothing more. I intend to finish watching all of Macross 7 and form my own opinion. My point is, I think it's only fair that both sides take responsibility for this debate.

Very nice! Although I'm not a huge fan of the yellow strips, the black 1/48 Yammie looks fantastic. Some great custom work. Very sharp and professional.

Hehehe

I don't understand why there is so much bad press for the BCS/BDI system. Computers work in a way very similar to our own nervous system, utilizing electrical impulses to transmit commands. Granted, sorting through the chaotic thoughts of a human brain would prove nearly unmanagable, however, concentration on the physical nervous system would be much more viable. It wouldn't be a leap to monitor the neural system for movement in the human body (more likely the spinal cord as opposed to the brain) and use a signal processor to translate those EMGs into corresponding commands for control of a mecha. I'm unsure how Macross explains it, but if it works in the afore mentioned fashion, it is most certainly a more credible science fiction concept than lightsabers and transporters...or harvesting human bioelectricity As for Macross 7's audio control system, it would simple be another form of audio recognition combinded with a very unweildly and impractical tactile control system. Also, you wouldn't have any rythm or "music" if one were to use such a system. Combat requires appropriate action to fluid circumstances. You wouldn't sit there playing music in its proper sequence to achieve a tune and fly straight, especially when what you really want to do is say to hell with the music, just play whatever cords are needed to bank left, transform, and unload your gunpod on the enemy mecha

What issue of Newtype USA is that?? I have them up until October, and it's not in any of the ones I have... Is it in November or December's issue? If so, then I will grab the issue, and re-scan the image, my scanner is brand stinkin new. That would be ideal. I appreciate your current effort, but the scan is so poor and the resolution is so low, this isn't doing anything for my 1280x1024 desktop

You are more right than you think. I'm more right in thinking that I'm right than you think I think I'm right That was deep

Just broke up with my girlfriend two weeks ago. Never been married.

Yes, a higher res scan please. Let these men do their work

Incredible. That is some very cool robotics. I'm impressed!
