Lucas should keep his contraversial opinions out of the public eye if he wishes to avoid being an easy target. Comments like this just give his critics all the more ammunition. I like the guy and enjoy some of his films, but he's playing with fire ever since the release of the prequel trilogy and his refusal to preserve the theatrical releases of his own films. I mean let's face it, Brin's diatribe never would have found print in any genre magazine pre-TPM, but articles criticizing the new Star Wars films and Lucas himself are common newstand fare these days.

Fantastic shots, but way too small. They aren't even 1024 x 768, to say nothing about 1280x1024. Big Macross CGI wallpapers...so hard to find

Well, I guess that crushes my hopes that Singer would do X-Men 3

I haven't seen this picture of the Macross...
Mr March replied to Pat S's topic in Movies and TV Series
LOL! This thread is like going to the bar when two hot chicks make out for all the guys Oh yeah, nice picture. The Macross I mean -
Animeigo certainly ships to Canada. I purchased my set directly from Animeigo and I live in Canada. It might also be possible to contact the Best Buy or A&B Sound stores in Canada directly and they might consider shipping the product to you (provided you pay them for the shipping and handling).

Saw the Bourne Supremacy, loved it!
Mr March replied to DARTHTODD's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I did see it this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it for an action film with some guts. I liked the way they wrapped up much of the story and revealed some tasty bits about Bourne. I think Paul Greengrass was actually a better choice for a Bourne movie than Liman (no criticism to Liman though, I like his work too). The action was tight and it had just enough of a story to lift it above the common action flcik fodder. Can't wait for the next one -
Exactly what I said. Brosnan was Bond. I've seen very few people doubt that he could not fill the role. He had all the wit, charm, and style that made Bond. But his movies (especially the last 2) needed to move away from the bigger-is-better formula. If they could make 1 more movie with Brosnan without the big effects and etc., we would probably have a good Bond film. I agree. How many other actors did they go through for Bond before they found a worthy replacement for Connery? When I saw Brosnan up for it, I felt they at least got the casting right this time. Trouble is, the Bond movies are films first and Bond stories second. Just like any other film. You need a good director if you're going to make it work that has at least a little inspiration and style. I mean let's face it, the Bond movies are not great film nor award winning storytelling. But at the very least, the Bond films must have an edge and a certain charm to compete.

This is in store at the locations in my city (Calgary). Best Buy doesn't have a Canadian online store (just their website) and I can't seem to find Macross sets on A&B Sound's online store.

While it's sad to see Pierce Brosnan leave (that's Brosnan, not Bronson or Brosnon), I can certainly understand why he left. The Bond movies were a dying franchise before Brosnan even became the next Bond. It was only the fact of Martin Campbell's ability to reinvent classic adventure stories that breathed new life into the Bond franchise with Goldeneye. Caine and Feirstein's script was probably Brosnan's main motivation for accepting the mantle of Bond to begin with. The Bond films that followed have been very weak in comparison. Brosnan was the perfect choice for the new Bond and Goldeneye worked well because of the stereotypes of Bond's own legacy that it crushed. Add the always watchable Sean Bean, the very talented Judi Dench, cut out most of the overused gadgets, a plausible explanation for Bond now that the cold war is over, and the series new style created Goldeneye; the best Bond flick since Connery's days IMO. But without Campbell, the modern Bond movies have been passable action flicks at best and very forgettable film. Unless someone in charge of the next Bond films can continue to reinvent the 007 mythos, I don't care if they get Clive Owen, Huge Jackman, or Eric Bana to play Bond, the films aren't going to be worth watching without some innovation.

I don't know what it's like in the US, but availability of the Animeigo Macross DVD sets has increased substantially since its release here in Canada. Both Best Buy and A&B Sound are now carrying the 3-disc sets and they are much cheaper than any other outlet I've seen. For example, many local hobby stores here in Calgary are charging $140.00 per 3 disc set for Macross (that would be a catasrophic $420.00 for all 9 discs, more than I paid for my 9 disc box!). However, Best Buy and A&B Sound are selling the 3-disc sets for about $40.00 each (that's $120.00 for the whole set). If you want to get this great set for a decent price, I recommend checking out those two stores. Makes me mad that I purchased the expensive first release set

The Trailer for Batman Begins is OUT!
Mr March replied to Anubis's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That trailer had atmosphere to burn. Wow. I must say, this film is taking shape nicely. If anyone can pull together a decent Bat film, it's Nolan and company. I'lld be eager to see the result (and just as eager to express any disappointment) -
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Mr March replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The title is good, very Star Wars-ish. It also keeps in line with the titles George created for the other films. As for the rest, well most titles of the Star Wars films have been melodramatic. The only Star Wars film title that wasn't corny was A New Hope. -
Aren't they gonna release this sometime next month?? Unfortunately not. The Extended version of The Return of The King won't come out until December of this year, despite the fact that the other two Extended releases have historically come out in November. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/dvdnews.php?id=5066

Fantastic! Many thanks to you Toonz

I find special editions are more for serious fans/creators of film than your average movie fan. While some casual fans might enjoy the special edition version of that one favorite movie that gives them an orgasm, I'm not sure if most of the special features I enjoy would appeal to most movie-goers. That being said, I do own the Terminator 2 Extreme Edition and the major difference between this release and previous releases of the film is the bit rate on the disc. Supposedly (and I don't know because my audio/visual setup sucks for the high-end DVD releases) the Extreme Edition looks and sounds much better on a proper high end LCD or Plasma with surround sound than the other T2 releases. Being an amateur filmmaker myself, I could probably tell the difference if I watched the stuff at an editing suite. But since I have to rent time in such a suite, I gotta think of more productive things to do until I can buy an editing suite of my own Needless to say, what I've written should help you decide. As a small addition to the topic, there are some special editions which I really feel any fan of the corresponding film should definitely obtain. In my opinion they are among the best editions of any DVD I've yet seen Alien The Director's Cut Aliens Collector's Edition Enter The Dragon Two-Disc, 30th Anniversary Special Edition Gladiator - Signature Selection (The Two-Disc version, not the single disc, though it's often hard to tell the difference if you don't know) Lord of the Rings - Fellowship, Two Towers, Return of the King - Extended Edition Set - Any of the these sets (even the ones outside of the big boxes) are worth their weight in gold Memento Limited Edition Two-Disc Set Traffic - Criterion Edition X-Men 1.5 Set

The DUTCH factor.. Importance of PREDATOR
Mr March replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Whoa! Since when was the Predator Special Edition release date July 20th? I haven't seen the DVD in any stor e yet and most of the websites are publishing the set release date as August 10, 2004. The DUTCH factor.. Importance of PREDATOR
Mr March replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Predator was a solid Action/Sci-Fi film, but it did little to promote science fiction. Most laymen don't even consider the film science fiction, merely an Arnie action vehicle that just happens to pit the Hollywood hero against an alien. In my opinion, I think Predator was a fantastic action film. Ranking it among Arnold's film accomplishment, it's certainly one of the best and Arnold did well in it. From a pure acting standpoint, Arnold was at the best he ever was as an actor (which is not his strength) in Predator. Time has also been very kind to the film, being very watchable even to this day. As film, Predator's main claim to fame would be its contribution to the subgenre. See, the film Predator, like Aliens, is primarily a return to the "monster movie." While we fans rarely see any connection between Predator/Aliens and the classic drive-through films featuring giant ants or apes, it is true that the newer creature films are simply modern, jazzed-up monster flicks. As a member of that subgenre, Predator was a fine addition and a noteworthy title. It took special effects to a new level, created a truly original monster to thrill audiences, and had plenty of aesthetically pleasing action sequences. Aside from being a noteworthy film in monster movie history, Predator didn't do much else to distinguish itself. As science fiction, it offered very little in the way of creative story telling or new technological/political/sociological/cultural/psychological concepts. But this is not a criticism; the large majority of great films become noteworthy only in their niche. Few transcend being the title of "great sci-fi flick" or "great action flick" and become a truly great film, regardless of classification. But just as a final note, any fan of science fiction or action films should certainly not miss Predator. If I were teaching a course on such a topic, Predator would be required viewing -
Yeah, the "Save As" worked for me. Had to use a rar extractor though. Very nice pictures. When I get better on Photoshop, I'm going to do a 1600x1200 wallpaper of that VF-0 spread.

Please tell me you have a 1280x1024 or higher version

Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st
Mr March replied to Blaine23's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The disks look like what I'd expect. The motif is nice, though I have seen better art. The posters for the special editions of the OT and the theatrical posters for the prequels would have suited me just fine. -
Anyone have a $!@ problem with Canadian Customs?
Mr March replied to soze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Being in Canada, I can confirm that I've encountered the customs delay, but not to the incredible extent you are currently enduring. It has been a few days longer at most and it only happens about 10% of the time. I would strongly suggest cursing into someone's ear at CCRS. -
I like the idea of someone like Singer directing Supermena, but this news can only mean bad things for X-Men 3. I hope Singer does X3 first and then dives into Superman.

Very strange. It must feel awkward to view media hype like that so many decades after the franchise has been established. I've never actually seen any of the japanese shows that interview creators of various anime or film, so I'm unsure what to expect. However, I wouldn't mind viewing the show just as a curious fan.
