Dear gawd...wow! Thank you so much! Any chance you could do some 4k renders for the Invader and Lightning series you built. I'd kill for 'em

Hey AgaveCacuts, is there anyway you can host those 4k renders? The board software here automatically sizes down your images to the same 1,200 pixels wide as your original posted images. If you like you can send them to me via email and I'll host them on my webspace for others to download.

I don't see blaming the crowd at Sundance for the poor reception of a genre film as any kind of realistic benchmark. The Sundance festival has a long history of welcoming and praising many genre films like 28 Days Later, Cube and Moon. The festival has also critically praised an amazing array of genre films like Resevoir Dogs, Hard Boiled, Memento, Brick, The Usual Suspects, Run Lola Run, The Blair Witch Project, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Saw, Oldboy, and The Raid: Redemption. I don't see many nose-turning, dismissals from the stereotyped arthouse crowd in a list like that. It is possible that the incredible acclaim they enjoyed early in their career had some impact on making movies, but I think it's fairly apparent they have not gone in any conventional route as filmmakers. It's also clear watching Bound and The Matrix what Larry/Lana felt about gender/roles/identity well before a scalpel ever entered the picture (punny!). And there are enough great male, female, straight and gay directors that I wouldn't hang on transgender as the issue. I think I may agree with you most that one possible cause for the Wachowski's disappointing output is that perhaps they do only have only one or two good films to offer. More's the pity. However, there is truth that the Hollywood system has claimed more than a few victims in it's many years. And I'm not talking about the drugs, the celebrity or the lifestyle; so many just assume big budget Hollywood filmmaking is a natural progression for great filmmakers. Some claim Hollywood as the top employer or ultimate career aspiration, but history has proven that while true for some directors, it is anything but a boon for many others. I believe the big budget system more than anything else could be a significant factor in the uneven story of the Wachowskis. IMO, they are not filmmakers that can marry their independent vision with any kind of big budget success post-Matrix. But who can say for certain what the reason is? What I can say is my lack of interest in the Wachowski's post-Matrix movies simply makes me feel bad for the film medium. I just wish the Wachowski's strong voice and unique visual style was something we could enjoy in much better movies.

I feel bad that I haven't enjoyed much of anything the Wachowskis have made in a very long time. Not bad for myself or even the Wachowskis, but just for film as a medium. I feel the Wachowskis have such a unique voice that is married so well to a distinctive visual style that it's a precious and rare commodity in my beloved medium. But none of their films past their first few have impressed me with that voice and style made in an effective way. It's also such a shame because I feel that socially, the Wachowskis promote some really good messages with their films. I keep hoping with each successive project the Wachowskis will attain a greatness, but none so far. Naturally, I'll give this film a chance, but it is disheartening to hear yet another similar vibe from their last movies once again soils their newest film.

Anime on Blu-ray in NA (GitS, Bebop, Mononoke)
Mr March replied to Mr March's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm getting it. The money is already spent. LOL, I remember back in the day when I would kill to get anime this cheap, now $24 is considered expensive. Nice to see some things change for the better. Though, I will miss those uber DVD sets for the Patlabor films. The ones with the big foil boxes that came with art books. The second movie should be right behind this one. Can't wait.- 123 replies

Yeah, the over-the-top look of the mecha reminds me of the more extreme Armored Valkyries (like the VF-11 Protect Armor) and of course, like Gundams. The two mecha evoke in my imagination what Gundam would be if Kawamori directed it, lol. I'm currently at work on a complete revision of the VF-3000 Crusader, but I've got the SDP-1 Stampede started and now talking so much about it, I want to get back to work on the Stampede again

The SDP-1 Stampede Valkyrie and VF-3/VF-X3 Star Crusader are interesting variations on the valkyire concept. They do look good, more armored and heavily armed than a standard valkyrie. But they both feel like Gundam-ized versions of a Valkyrie, even more so than the Armored valkyries. I think the color schemes do a lot to present them as mobile suit variable fighters. Not implying that being Gundam-like is inherently bad, but IMO they feel a little less imaginative and less Macross than the other valkyries. That said, I'd kill to get uncolored line art for the VF-3/VF-X3 Star Crusader. I'm doing a sexy revision of the SDP-1 Stampede, but I lack line art for the Star Crusader so I can't do that one. Mores the pity.

That would be cool. Unfortuantely I still have a lot of work to do to get the next update out. But let me show you here on the boards what I have so far and perhaps that will illustrate the kind of angle needed. Spoiler for the next website update I suppose, but you can handle it

Awww, that's too bad. Nonetheless, the work you did on the A and J types is phenomenal. I was hoping they'd eventually release more line art for the head redesigns, so I could make customs and stuff I've actually used the line art of the VF-1J Macross The First head unit to create a custom Battroid mode version for the next update of my website.
-
Very nice. I liked the head units you posted in the artwork section, but I'll take a look at the rest of your work.
-
These are fantastic! Macross The First versions of the VF-1 heads. I hope to see your VF-1D type. Thanks for the uber large versions. I'm saving these

Hear, hear! I hope he keeps going, because it's off to a great start. Agreed that HG can burn in hell

Yes, it would be. The marketing strategy for all these types of films is release advertising that caters to every type of consumer. Release one trailer that will entice sci-fi fans, release another trailer that will entice actions fans, release yet another trailer that will entice drama fans, another for older consumers, for women, blah, blah, blah. Even if the it means selling the film as something it isn't, get as many of those asses in the seats as possible.

Oh, I REALLY like those angled-hull ARMDs. Very cool idea. The bridge looks amazing too. The front half is a bit too much "New Macross Class/Battle Class". Not necessarily bad, just saying it's not different/new/interesting enough. Great work overall.

Great work! I'll check out the DA page.

The thing that needs retconning about the F-203 Dragon II is those 16mm guns into 30mm guns, if that could even be considered a retconn I don't believe any Studio Nue Macross designs have been retconned out of the "main continuity". Big West continues to publish and re-publish all the intellectual property (IP) for Macross in successive products like the Macross Chronicle, even going so far as to update and revise presentation and in-universe trivia. As I've mentioned before, our only option as fans is accepting ALL the production material of Macross as valid; any contradictions or continuity problems are irrelvant to the official continuity. Unless the status of a Macross production or publication is explicitly declared otherwise (ie. Macross II, the Variable Fighter Master File series, etc) we fans have to accept it all and reconcile, even if it seems silly From a production perspective, it makes good business sense to keep all the production materials circulating. Anime production companies spend a lot of money paying artists/designers to create all this material, so it makes sense to continue profiting from all the IP that's been built as long as there is still consumer demand for it. Why not, as long as we're willing to pay for it

Looks amazing. One thing, if I may; the small rotating "camera/sensor" ith the red lense that sits just above the main shoulder joint...the forward section looks too tall/narrow (unless this is just the angle fooling me). According to line art, it should be rectangular, flatter and more wide than tall. But I think it's just the angle of the picture. However, commenting on that same part, it appears to sit too far above the "ledge" in front of it. If you look at the line art, the camera/sensor almost appears to rest atop the front ledge when facing forward. Only when it rotates upward does it cease contact with the forward part of the chasis. Of course, the front ledge is angled, so only the bottom right corner of the forward camera/sensor will actually touch to forward ledge, but I believe there is supposed to be contact when the camer/sensor is at rest,
