  1. I've never heard anyone say they don't like the first movie. Plenty have said they like the second movie more but that is not the same thing. As for continuity - the instant time travel is involved it goes out the window. The first movie setup a time loop that just can't happen without the time loop. Latest Dr. Who season handled it pretty well with the who got the idea first bits.
  2. Yes, Dream Pod 9 (who do Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles) always had top notch art and mecha.
  3. I've got the old boardgames (wth the "unseen" mechs) and everything was done with no *NO* regard for physics. Just get any thought of such things out of your heads. Darn fun game back then however. I gave up on it long ago with each new release feeling the need to up the ante on power/weight/heat, etc...
  4. Started watching it on Netflix, got past the by the number opening fight scene and up to the UN trying to clamp down on them discussion and gave up - just too boring to go on with.
  5. I also like that the Earth fleet consists of the older designs still - perhaps for the earlier battles that appear to be happening which were not in the original show.
  6. I didn't know this but he was also the XO on the Excelsior in Star Trek 3. http://www.startrek.com/article/remembering-star-trek-iii-actor-miguel-ferrer-1955-2017
  7. Looking better and better all the time. I'm hoping they can continue the remakes through all of the originals - maybe they can correct the miss-steps after Yamato 2.
  8. He played a terrific sleazeball and 61 is far too young to die. RIP
  9. Delayed again, though they are far enough into production that it is probably just a delay. http://www.blastr.com/2017-1-18/star-trek-discovery-delayed-again-no-new-release-date-announced
  10. It is "A fully armed and operational" Yamato - Emperor Desslar lured the Comet Empire into a trap you see...
  11. After seeing "The Jungle Book" I'm willing to let all movies be blue-screen works. Give it a few more years to work out the remaining kinks and it will start becoming abnormal to have location shooting.
  12. Just watched the Cowboy Bebop movie and I had forgotten just how truly incredible that film is, looks like I will have to re-up my Netflix DVD option to watch the series again.
  13. The thing with Bond is that the whole franchise rebooted with each new actor - not to the degree that was done with the latest Bond but it was a shift of focus with each new one. They could get away with this since Bond films are Bond films and are not directly linked for the most part. Replacing Carrie Fisher for the last movie is going to be tough since Leia is her to an extent, there are no books being adapted on an existing character she was playing. Another example is William Shatner as Kirk, granted they replaced the whole cast in the reboot movies but if just Kirk (or Spock, or McCoy) were replaced it just wouldn't work. Most likely it is going to be far easier to write leia out of the last movie as an offscreen death, use the existing footage they shot for Episode 8, and use a little bit of CGI if "reshoots" are needed. There is a chance the character may die in episode 8 now (using the CGI bit) as well.
  14. Somewhere way back the creators were talking of international releases going under the Star Blazer banner. Which means it is good that they are thinking of it, and bad that they are using a marketing name where the last production's final two disks were never released.
  15. I hope this is just as awesome as it looks! That shot of the Andromeda is simply incredible.
  16. Absolutely true! If you get a chance to hear some of the screen test dialog for the original Star Wars it is every bit as stilted as the prequel dialog.
  17. That is a good picture to keep around when someone mentions "Hollywood Glamour"...
  18. It had to be subtle or someone else would have noticed it and corrected it before the station was built. If the original had been built with the zig zag exhaust port of the 2nd one it would have been game over rebellion.
  19. One of the funniest things I heard her say (and she had tons of funny things to say) was that she owed George a quarter every time she looked in the mirror.
  20. It's the name, whoever decided to name an action film "The Accountant" needs to be shot. The ads did not do it any favors either. I've said it before and it applies here too, the problem these days is not too that there are too few outlets for my entertainment dollar - there are too many and if a show does not make a good impression in an advertisement then it is pretty much doomed - even if it were good (and most of the reviews say it is not).
  21. If they are smart they dropped that bit, Dracula Untold should have been left untold.
