  1. Wait? Ending already. Has there been any of the interpersonal relationships Macross was famous for in the comic? If so it must have been one or two panels between toothy grins.
  2. > no amount of 'splaining is going to excuse the fact that Spock watched his homeworld dissolve into a black hole with his naked eyes, from a moon in orbit of that same planet. I always thought that was a different solar system - which brings up a whole nother can of worms...
  3. That is still up in the air. Was Solo a one off problem or does it hint at a systemic problem caused by how bad episode 8 was? Is the low crowd size at Galaxy's Edge caused by the normal crowds at Disney and a price increase designed to bring crowds down (personally I don't buy that for a minute, crowd control is one thing but historically thin crowds when a major new attraction opens is not what Disney was expecting) or is it also something systemic brought on by episode 8? It is not impossible for Episode 9 to under perform badly, not bomb as such but not be the runaway blockbuster Disney is hoping for.
  4. What they are missing is somone to ride herd on the directors - this isn't the place for someone to do their own thing each movie, they have to learn to work within a very strict set of guidelines - like you have to do with TV shows that have a season arc.
  5. Hey now! That bit about Han showing up at just the right time and place is one of the more logical things in the latest movies... I kinda, halfway, remember some throwaway dialog to "explain" it and just went along for the ride.
  6. True - but the story as directed wasn't well done and well "NNNNNoooooo"..... Takes a LOT of ineptitude to make Vader such a wimp. Darth Millennial was always a wimp so no problems for them messing him up.
  7. Checking the Box Office for the weekend I see the film took in 17 mil with a budget of 49 mil. In the olden days that would be considered a bomb. Since Foreign figures are not released yet it might still be considered a modest success or at least break even. (not in regards to paying royalties though...)
  8. My feeling at the end of RotJ was "that was really mediocre". I'm fairly certain I'll have the same feeling at the end of RoS. On the plus side that would put it a step up from TLJ where ESB was the pinnacle of the franchise.
  9. Maybe it won't even be a rental after all.
  10. The article severely brushes over the problems with newer Macross shows getting here.
  11. > "Gurren Lagann" - see, I can be down with you younglings too! The mecha show that gradually turns everything up to "11", and then KEEPS FINDING BIGGER DIALS. Not my top anime but darn close. You gotta hand it to a show that starts with a kid digging tunnels with a teeny weeny corkscrew thing managing to end where it did and doing so with style.
  12. The only Managa I have read are parts of Vampire Hunter D and Akira. Of those I liked Akira the most. The art style was more of what I like. D's artwork was very busy, intricate might be a more appropriate word but I don't like it myself. Anime - Valley of the Wind. Still stunning after all these years.
  13. Both of them appear to love it so I guess it is true.
  14. Glad I missed the one where Sisko punched Q (or forgot it). They made the character pretty pathetic over the years but I didn't know that had let it get that bad.
  15. He already did that once (more or less) and no Picard would not want it to happen again.
  16. Nothing tops "Worf: EAT any good books lately?"
  17. We did land people on the moon 50 years ago. A number of probes to Mars and one of the Voyager craft has officially left the solar system (I think - I may have the term incorrect). That counts as space travel - NONE of it counts for life from another star system making it to Earth.
  18. Although I admire the man immensely I never could stand the show. There are others I know who watched it and had fond memories. I'll most likely see the biopic on him since I find the person so interesting (and Tom Hanks).
  19. I was interested the instant I heard Tom Hanks was playing Mr Rogers. On a side note I saw an outtake from one of those celebrity "gotcha" shows. They set Mr. Rogers up in a hotel and had a bunch of things not work correctly ending with the TV. Mr. Rogers simply brushed off each item saying it was not a problem. The only one I remember exactly was when they said the TV did not work and he said "That's OK, I like to read". At that point the crew came out and said they were trying to prank him and just couldn't. The man really was what you saw on the TV.
  20. Knowing what I now know of Gatchaman I have to give Sandy Frank credit. I would NEVER EVER NEVER have thought it could be brought to the US in any form back then.
  21. > As I understand it (and please, anyone with better knowledge correct me here), it's not as though manufacturers keep producing components for a plane after the initial buy. The weapons procurement system in the US (and I would imagine most other countries) is so screwed up(*) that it is possible this is done somewhere somehow but in general you don't do so - it is a waste of money that could be spent more productively. (*) - Buying only X of a vehicle instead of Y even though that jacks up the per unit cost a lot simply to make a budget for a particular year. On the plus side it often keeps employees trained on a system longer in case more are needed later.
  22. I thought I had seen the worst Robotech Comics could be - I was wrong...
  23. It also has the best Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty interactions of the entire reboot too. The bad guy was a terrible waste of a great actor though.
