Battlestar Galactica Discussion IV with Blood And Chrome
Dynaman replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Did you see the special features? The bombardment scene was not supposed to be there originally - just the hybrid saying "This is burning, that is burning..." THAT would have made the show a worse bomb then it already was. Same purpose as the topless chicks in the Caprica DVD - just a little something extra they can't show on TV to try and get people to buy the DVD...- 698 replies

I'd buy that for a dollar! Come to think of it, find some way to get robocop in the movie, or at least the ED-209 (It could be a destroid prototype)

The Andromeda from Yamato / Star Blazers is the best ship ever... I was looking for a pic but found this instead, I've never seen this clip before, and boy am I glad I found it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9ylfABD0qg

Just saw box sets 1-3 on amazon, they are used, but they are there.
-
Have to disagree, first time I saw it I convinced it was a fan made ship, the thing has the most ungainly lines I've ever seen.
-
I was refering to watching it on Hulu or Youtube (wherever it may be available as a stream). Unless something has changed you can't tell it to play the subbed version rather then the dubbed one. Personally, I have the Animeigo version and it was not that hard (easy actually) to purchase through amazon. Not sure if there are copies available now though.
-
The largest problem with that dub though, is that if I had to choose between it and "The Macross Saga" part of Robotech, I'd choose Robotech. The VA work in that is an atrocity. The subtitled version of SDFM is well worth the money.

Nobody thought a small one man fighter was a threat - or else they would have a tighter defense. Real tanks have been built with big honking exhaust ports on the side (WW2 French) and lots of other design flaws no need to worry about that one on the Death Star, if Luke had not been there (last Jedi, yada yada) then no one would have hit the thing. I'd like to know who placed the tractor beam controls though.

In Galactica the proportions are off compared to a current US navy aircraft carrier, but not by much. (halways being the biggest offender). as for the reason. A fighter will be made just large enough to house everything, and not one bit larger. Maintenance will not be done outside of a mother ship/carrier. The capital ship on the other hand will need to have maintenance done while under way, and room will be allocated to allow the maintenance on the ship itself and seperate maintenance bays for the small craft that it carries. All the spare parts needed will be kept in the carrier as well, including all the spares for the small craft. So every bit of space saved on the small craft has to be added to the carrier/base ship. Once again though - Hollywood still likes to overdo it...

Well, it DID make a sizable dent in the second Death Star... No spoiler - if someone has not seen it by now, well, they aren't going to...

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
Dynaman replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
teenagers from Outer Space has that one beat, it's monster was the Shadow of a Lobster... Or "Beginning of the End", it's monsters were grasshoppers, they used real grasshoppers crawling over pictures of buildings for their special effects. I recommend both of these in their MST3K versions, especially the "Teenagers from Outer Space" one, it has two of my favorite riffs "Stay!", and "Dog Gone". -

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
Dynaman replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
With one caveat, the movie in question was not awesomely bad, it was just plain old bad. "The Ice Pirates" on the other had WAS "awesomely bad". Just for the name of the love bug if nothing else. -
Not a penny. HG paid for the rights upfront, which was quite a good deal for them. (If I have the terms of the original HG deal correct, can't imagine anyone making an open ended deal like that any more)

And why should it be any different from the rest of the RT website?

Read some Honor Harrington, the ships in that universe accelerate at hundreds of gravity - and the inertial dampers fail from time to time from combat damage. Here is a pick of some ships off the web, not really great designs... http://paizo.com/image/product/catalog/FSWADA/FSWADA21102_500.jpeg

The other two I know, this one was from a Saturday Morning kids show if I remember correctly. Looks like an Apollo booster with some kind of minivan on the front. And where did they get the Super America gas station decals from? That's easy though, shoot out a hundred drones making the same temperature.
-
They were? Only time I can remember was the brief (very brief) moment when they had the funding for The Sentinels in place, and that fell apart very quickly - seemed a ramshackle enterprise at best (but I don't really know all that much about it). Is the Sentinels what you are referring to?

Virgin, being a common word, can't be trademarked for general use, someone trying to use it for starting their own record company - forget it, someone trying to use it as part of the name of some kind of reproductive control product will not have a problem. Windows is in a similar situation, try to use it in relation to a PC operating system name and you have trouble, using it as a description of an operating system or as a house window is fair game. Macross - having no general usage connotation does not come under that clause.
-
Just saw that on DVD recently too. It held up far better then I thought it had, with storylines focusing more on the stresss of the jobs people were doing rather then just the situation. The wooden acting didn't help though. The ships themselves, were they supposed to have guns in addition to the big honking missiles on the front? I can't remember.
-
I have the DVD for that, it's as bad now as it was then... All in all, it was a terribly stupid movie. That's not to say I didn't have fun watching it though. This would also be a film that would benefit greatly from new digital effects.

In regard to Starfuries. If you want to see some improved animation of them check out B5 - The Lost Tales. It shows them with more modern CGI in an extended sequence. There is also a very short (5 seconds or so) battle "scene" that is very nicely done. The show itself - B5 fans will generally like it, don't bother otherwise.

The Expendables. Coming Summer 2010.
Dynaman replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was surprised it had as much character development as it did, certainly more then the average action flick. Perhaps as much as 10 average action flicks combined (with Stathams chracter at any rate) -
I had a veritech fighter that did a full transform back then, I don't think it was a Macross model (I got it in a Toys R us or some such place). I don't remember the nose of the toy being so stubby though, so it must have been something different.
