What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Dynaman replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The Final Countdown, decent movie. What goes back in time in Zipang? Saw an earlier live action japanese movie where a tank, copter, and river boat go back in time - it was pretty atrocious. I think the Japanese title was timeslip. -

Right now (as in, at this very minute). I'm watching CatShitOne on youtube. Decent English dub too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMlmEFIxdb4&feature=player_embedded -
What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0

Just saw two patlabor movies, WX13 and "The Movie". I was surprised by how little mecha action was in either one (especially 13), and even more surprised that I liked them anyway. (not that I'm only a mecha person, but renting one called Patlabor I expected mecha to be more "front and center") Going to look for more Patlabor stuff soon. Mecha - in case someone wants to get snooty, by mecha I'm refering to humanoid robots/vehicles. The show calls any mechanical box a Labor, but it just isn't the same... -
I agree that the rest of the translation was crap, but THAT was a great line...

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
Dynaman replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The main problem is the film itself could not decide if it was edgy or cute, Kubrick would have made the film much edgier - and that would have made all the difference. Spielberg took the sting out of the movie, and left it feeling flat. Until this thread came up I'd forgotten a good bit of the movie, which does not happen when I watch a movie that has emotional impact. -

That ^ guy has a robot in his head, I just rewatched the last bit of AI, and I still say he blew it by making them look too much like the aliens from another sceince fiction film the director should be familiar with, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. -
I'm still waiting for History of the World part 2, the Hitler on Ice segment looks hilarious, not to mention Jews in Space.

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time

I'll ditto that, and I didn't think enough of the movie to bother looking up anything about it. They really should have made the robots at the end more robot-like rather then looking closer to the archtypical space alien... (It wasn't a bad film, but nothing great either) -
I didn't say the characters made sense, and that is perfect dialog for RT's Minmei.

I think the lady that married the bald guy is the cutest of the bunch. My wife loved the show, and I was interested after hearing Big's line at the end of the first episode. My wife didn't even bother to watch the second movie though. -
Most of Robotech's dialog (original series) is fine, it's the blasted Narrator stating the obvious that drives me away. Although I like SC, the dialog is certainly flat - and far too much use is made of casual profanity for no good reason.

Not fair, the remake is no more or less crappy then the original... -
Probably be interesting to read, the difference is that while watching Inception I was drawn into the story, while watching Dark Knight I spent at least half the time going "And NOBODY noticed all those explosives being planted in the Hospital / Boat" - it's always bad news for a film when the suspension of disbelief is so thoroughly shattered while the scene is still playing.
-
If that Robocop sequal/reboot is dead, it will be anounced as starting up again soon.
-
I could give a long list that in summation comes up as "he must have done an aweful lot of planning to pull of those explosions, especially for someone who doesn't play well with others", but that does not belong in a thread about Inception - which is a very good film.
-
The article is from the 21st though, so unless it was scrapped again since then it may be back, not that I care either way.

If you are talking about the movie with the Queen soundtrack, it is out on DVD. Or at least it was. Reminds me I need to go watch it again.

Macross Frontier Movie 2 thread - Now available on Blu-ray/DVD
Dynaman replied to Tochiro's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
IS that supposed to be Sheryl standing next to Alto? Other then the sleazy boots it doesn't look anything like her (or any other character...) -
Darth Maul was the best! Mainly since he had the least dialog...
-
If I were hungry enough I would sell her for a loaf of bread too though. Macross Plus in 3D I would go see, along with DYRL, or Frontier, or Yamato - any of them in 2D or 3D at a theater would be great, but it doesn't happen anywhere closer then NYC for me.
-
"The Last Starfighter", modern computer graphics would be good for it, and I don't think it could get much worse plotwise. Sort of related, the recent "Clash of the Titans" got sour reviews but it was really no worse or better then the original. A few Japanese sci-fi movies from the late seventies and early eighties, I remember one that had sparklers on the back of a spaceship. The live action Yamato shows that the Japanese can do spaceships now. "Green Slime" might be a good contender - even though I liked the original

Heard about this earlier, glad to see it is still on the radar.

And we complain about the robotech wallet being a ripoff...

Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
Dynaman replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just read about this on sci-fi, and it sounds like "it's an alien movie, but we don't want to call it an alien movie". The mumbo-jumbo to actual information meter went off the scale... http://blastr.com/2011/01/that-alien-prequel-is-not.php Really hard to say what this will be, so far it sounds like an alien movie in everything but name. -
Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series

Nah, Darth Barf - too bad John Candy will not be able to voice him... (He would be the evil half man half dog, his own best friend - very handy in the Star Wars universe.)- 1217 replies
