  1. We can add Tomb Raider to the list of reboots we could really really live without... (at least I can) http://www.cnn.com/2011/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/08/tomb.raider.reboot.ew/index.html?hpt=C2
  2. They don't care, in order to maximize sales the toys HAVE to be available on release date - which means gettng them to retailers earlier then that. And sales is all that matters. (some might think I'm a cynical old git, and they might be mostly correct)
  3. [edit] - looked again, although there are pictures I think they are just something they stuffed in the article, some editor thought they were both Star Blazers... What drawings? The article I posted had no drawings, it's total pie in the sky at the moment to begin with.
  4. The Hobbit will get visuals and stuff like that, there is no way it's going to get anything else.
  5. Max? I'd think it would be Milia...
  6. I know, I've been meaning to write them and say they could add the robots into their video player... (they have one that plays DVDs and automatically syncs the DVD and the commentary) On the plus side, they can now make fun of all the movies they have been wanting to for a long time - I think the first movie they did in this format was Roadhouse...
  7. Executives ONLY care about one category, box office bucks.
  8. For anyone crazy enough to buy that movie, here is the ONLY way to watch it. (click on sample to watch) http://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/birdemic
  9. By hook or by crook, if he did it once he may do it again. I'm not placing any bets either way.
  10. But he did get to put Maureen O'Hara over his knee, that has to be worth something. And if "The Green Berets" doesn't count as scifi then nothing does... Back to Ahnold, someone made a montage of all his "Painful screams" once, priceless.
  11. That was not a knock on Gurren Lagann. GL knew exactly what it wanted to be and fulfulled it's promise. Gunbuster could be something I love at this point or something I hate, can't really decide (I was the same way this far into GL as well though - and it turned out to be one of my favorites)
  12. Nothing wrong with that, the more it makes the better the chance of a sequal...
  13. Just watched "The Sky Crawlers" last night, excellent dogfight sequences and detailed animation - the character animation is very sparse though and the two styles do clash a bit. Interesting story about pilots that never grow up, can't say any more as that gives away part of the plot. I also watched the first two episodes of Gunbuster, don't know what to make of the show yet - looked like it was going to be a mecha high school show and then it took a 180, I'm going to pick up disc 2 to see where it goes but the show is on the edge for me, a little too silly but not enough for me to quit watching yet. (It's not silly enough to be that show with the Spirals nor serious enough to be Macross, which puts it in a weird spot)
  14. I would agree, but then there is always the story of the director of Piranha and his next film... Not to mention the fact that I thought flyboys was a decent film, and True Grit looks to be one of the rare remakes that is as good as the original.
  15. Memo had a post on the robotech website about the clip.
  16. Normally I would more or less ignore any attempting to make a live action Star Blazers, but if the group that financed True Grit is involved then maybe it has a chance... http://www.deadline.com/2011/02/true-grit-co-financier-skydance-targets-star-blazers-for-christopher-mcquarrie/
  17. He also said he was done with Macross in general at one time...
  18. In my case I needed it since I was morbid obese, lost 130 pounds and kept it off - have not needed it since, as a bonus my blood pressure is normal now too (and my wife tells me I don't snore any more)
  19. I used to need one of those, I feel for you - I hated the thing.
  20. Indeed, very early cuts of the film actually used shots from earlier WWII films to show what the action would be like. (this was shown to studio execs, etc. and Steven Speilberg.)
  21. John Adams is on the nightstand. In Death Ground is on the downstairs reading stand (currently reading that one) along with book 4+ of the Sword of Truth series (on the backburner for now), along with the second trilogy of books that began with "Semper: Mars" (still need to get books 2 and 3 in the first trilogy), "Circuit: Breaker" and "Final Circuit", the 4th Temeraire book (about Australia, can't remember the title - just finished that one), "1612 - or 13 or 14, forget exactly" on the Nook, and a bunch of other paperbacks I got from the free library at work that I have yet to read...
  22. That is true for practically every fan community section hosted by a company. The only problem for RT is the miniscule amount of new animation over the years.
  23. Valley of the Wind is my vote, but I'd watch any of his films. Even better now that Disney did the English dub recently (re-dub?). Billy Crystal was great in his role in Howl's moving Castle, and the latest voicework for Nausica was outstanding, I really liked hearing Patrick Stewart for example.
  24. Justed started watching "Toward the Terra". First two episodes were OK, I'm hoping it doesn't fall off a cliff though since it has the preachy "save the Earth" vibe going - and it could end up being a preach fest... The main character in the show keeps reminding me of Ender from Ender's Game, even though the characters don't act alike - they both have a saviour of the universe vibe to them. As for the animation, somewhat recent, even though the character designs look older there is a good bit of computer animation mixed in. The battle scenes so far have been very well done, nice flowing missile attacks for instance.
  25. Or Robocop either, they stole the "Gas Station" scene from that one. That truly was one of the worst.
