Your deadpan might be stronger than my deadpan. Not really sure which though.

Star Trek TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT - pre-Paramount+ TV Series
Dynaman replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Here is one on the Enterprise C (well, a sister ship to it - the curator explains). Neat to see the comments on how it was built for filming TV episodes and NOT as a display model. -
More like early Babylon 5 (with songs instead of just talking). All the interesting stuff happens off screen and the characters talk about it. (not exactly - since very little interesting stuff happens). In macross (the original) there is plenty of action to go with the singing. Later Macross shows it varies.
-
If she likes singing she should like it. If not there is really not much going on, lots and lots of exposition (lots of it through singing) and not much elsewise.

I watched, most, of Disenchanted last night. I wasn't expecting much since it was a straight to D+ sequel and the promos did not look interesting either. The original was a great little Romp that made good fun of the genre. This one tried to get the same magic back but misfires. The songs were just not that interesting and dragged on IMHO. Then near the end I just turned it off so I'm not exactly sure how it ends and will probably never know...

Not just call backs, it was one of the very few instances in the show where a character changed and the change stuck in future episodes. This episode is second only to the one where Picard goes home and "reconciles" with his brother. Brilliant performances by both actors in that one. -
Your lucky. I've only seen very little of it and have no desire to see any more. Dreadful (I read some reviewer gave it a B+ rating - insanity)

Enterprise-A LEaves Spacedock (fan video)
Dynaman replied to Thom's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That counts as just at the edge... -
I started watching this the other day and ended up turning it off. Nowhere near as good as the original or even the Richard Thomas one. Perhaps it gets better later in the movie. It skips right over nearly all of the training sequences and picks right up with them going into the trenches giving us no time to really get to know any of the cast - which makes it impossible to care about them when they die off one by one (though even the dying off one by one appears to be missing from this version). It also takes place in 1917 - by then the thrill of the war had long since worn off even for schoolboys - just so we could have a forgettable scene about Paul getting the uniform of a dead soldier. Long story short - watch the original.

Just think, even at 1/4 light speed you can make it to the nearest star in under 12 years. So far the furthest we have sent something is to the edge of the solar system. -
Whoops - Meant Tron. GoG ride is finally up and running a couple months back. Also way behind when it could have been pushed up during the shutdowns. Disney was putting their money elsewhere though.

The Moana walk through "attraction" and the redone communicore (?) building are due to be completed late next year. The Guardians coaster not till mid spring next year. In the meantime their competitors will have an entirely new park nearly half complete. Disney better start getting it's act back together soon. The Mickey Views guy noted that Disney appears to be paying down the debt it acquired when on an acquisition spree (notably Fox) and that is where the money is going. Which is why the parks are getting less attention and maintenance (things are showing wear there like I have not seen before) and why even their shows on D+ have some dodgy FX.

Disney+ TV Series, movies, animation,specials
Dynaman replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'll be tacky and quote myself... One year on and this has aged well. It has made it onto my list of shows to watch each Halloween. I still ignore a good chunk of the opening song still but I like the one in the party/dining room. Like someone else said last year they did a great job "muppetizing" the Haunted Mansion too. -
It is a pity Jodie's best (by far) episode was also her last. If the show had been even nearly this good through her run it would have been great. The cameos alone made it worth watching.

All quibbles aside the problem with Man of Steel is that character was as un-Superman like as you could get. He is supposed to be a big overgrown boy scout (to misquote Lex Luthor from Superman). The guy in Man of Steel was Mr Grumpy. It seems he was supposed to grow into the Superman we all know in the second movie but DC jumped the gun on shoveling all the characters together. Big mistake.

WOW! What a difference a good trailer makes. This is on my list to watch (at least the first one) now.

You can get Fastpass (er, Genie+) for the new rides and the older ones at Epcot can have short wait times unless you try to get on the Frozen ride (I wish it were still Maelstrom). When we go I manage to ride Runaway Railway, Slinky, Muppets, See the B&B show (wife insists), Star Tours, take a break at the hotel and then go to Epcot, Soarin, and the Golf Ball. Last trip we got in Remy (as a Genie+) too. If you don't mind spending more you can get Genie+ for Rise of the Resistance later in the day usually and that wraps things up.

If doing rides Epcot and Hollywood Studios together are a single day. That is what we normally do.

The Zentradi themselves can't do a thing. They have no technical skills whatsoever, even those that would be required to fight seem to only be instilled to do exactly what they need to do and nothing else (tuning a radio for instance - I think they are shown tuning one in at one point but they don't seem to be able to use that ability to keep out transmissions they do not want). If someone is helping the Zents they could implement scambled transmission systems. That would take care of any kind of outside transmission.

Forgot about this thread. I saw part of the movie and turned it off, it should have been called "Tom Parker".

The more or less realistic promotions do not diminish the off the wall captain to admiral promotions. That just doesn't happen outside of Trek (or fiction in general). You get other forms of recognition instead and fast tracking for promotion later.

In Star Trek (at least the original series) it was a distinct grade (rank being position within a grade always based on date of promotion I think). Star Trek is at best wonky with promotion and how it treats rank anyway. JMS (paraphrased) said it best "People are promoted at the speed of plot".
