  1. As Drew Carey noted, to me they are indistinguishable...
  2. Whoops, one weightlifting film is pretty much the same as any other to me... At least it's not "Over the Top"!
  3. Hey! They forgot AT LEAST one scream from "Pumping Iron" (I'm sure there are more, but who actually wants to watch the whole thing to find out?) Start watching this clip at the 4 minute mark.
  4. That brought back good memories, thanks for posting this!
  5. Not really, the producers admit this was done, no use spending 10 minutes an episode learning the language du jour. Universe did that, look where it got that show. Same thing goes for the transporter on Star Trek, although a shuttle landing sequence was not really needed each episode - but showing the shuttle on the ground is a pain.
  6. Terra Nova supposedly had a 4 million per episode budget, although it made a profit it is not yet being renewed (profit and ENOUGH profit per dollar spent not being the same thing). The Star Wars show would be on a cable channel rather then a network channel as well - but it is SW so it would have a built in audience to start though. Still a very big gamble.
  7. I like the design difference between the raptors and the vipers. Vipers are fighter craft designed for dogfighting (despite the attempt to show them using somewhat realistic physics). Raptors are support craft designed to do scouting and other general duty. Think of the difference in look between an F15 and a C-130, near perfect match. (or an F15 and one of our current radar planes with the big radar dish on the top)
  8. Since there is no apathy that I can see, the answer would have to be no. At least not in books, TV, or Movies, I don't keep any track of comics if that is what you are referring to.
  9. Max was a take charge kind of guy right from the get-go, Gamlin is as pathetic as you can get in that regard...
  10. OK - just think how much worse it would be if he wrote the thing... Lucas is the only director, writer, producer (well, maybe not producer) that gets worse the more he does.
  11. Well, he did write the last Indiana Jones movie...
  12. I'm watching Full Metal Panic, does that count as Modern enough? Almost gave up after episode 2 since it seemed like it would slant far too much into High School Hijinks territory, glad I didn't after seeing episodes 3 and 4. I also picked up the first Vampire Hunter D Manga book thing (don't know what to call them) but have not read it yet.
  13. I don't see it happening anytime soon either. 5 mil an episode? Yow...
  14. I'm fairly certain they will have some kind of zinger planned for the end of the show. If it gets that far of course.
  15. No word yet, but SyFy usually owns up to a show getting canned, so it is probably coming along. Once it comes out and doesn't do well after 10 episodes it will get the chop though... Maybe it will last longer if they call it "Ghost Hunters: Galactica"
  16. Just saw a link to a website where you can make a paper Viper Mark II or a cylon raider. Takes more skill then I have though... http://members.home.nl/saarloos/index.htm
  17. I think it was a warning, "If you make me continue the Hikaru, Misa, Minmay story look what will happen..."
  18. No, which is why I want it here. As I said, I don't follow the RT site (don't even go there), if there was a thread here about REAL scoops then I would not feel the urge to stop in this thread, and since the scoop thread would not have a new post more then twice a year it is a win win for me.
  19. Watched is after Christmas and I think it was the best film I've seen this year. Which is sort of damning with faint praise - although it was a decent movie it just seemed to lake a spark, perhaps I'm just getting old since I would have loved it a decade ago. The chase scene at the end was excellent, the amount of planning that must have gone into it is staggering. The sea battle with sailing ships makes me wish they would release an animated sailing movie (not more POTC crap either!)
  20. Any chance we could have a Robotech Scoopda board, granted it would only have 1 or 2 posts a year, but wading through the griping about HG and the nuttier parts of the RT fanbase is almost getting as bad as going onto the RT website for news (ok, perhaps I exagerater a little - but the RT scoopda is an honest request, since I really don't have any desire to look at the RT website and really don't care about the RT fandom but I would like to know when something new for RT is actually released or announced)
  21. Movie - Yamato came out on DVD, so I count it as last year for me. TV - Boardwalk Empire. Have not seen GoT yet, might be better. Computer Game - I don't buy them till they are 2+ years old, Ghost Recon Advanced warfighter is my current game, been playing it for months so it wins. WOT is runner up. Boardgame/miniatures games - IABSM3, miniatures rules about WWII. Worst movie, so many contenders. But the winner is the Latest Pirates movie, it was dreadful. Thor - not quite as dreadful. Conan - Better then I expected, still not good. (I was not expecting much...) I still have yet to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie, last one was rubbish, this one might be better.
  22. They are going to do just what has been done before, tone it down with no explenation - and most people will never notice (or care) about the difference. Same trick is used constantly in the movies, check out any "battle" scene on a bridge - at first the alerts are sounding and lights flashing, but after a little bit they stop - even if in reality they would still be going.
  23. Really Really impressive stuff, a certain "animation" house could make use of this guy's work... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=T0GI2GHgwBI#!
  24. A fellow I knew back in the late eighties (before RT2, not sure when though) told me that there was a good Animation show on TV. Now he liked Transformers so I was skeptical to say the least, but I gave RT a shot since he said it was just as good as Star Blazers was. First ep of RT I saw was Globals report (Lucky to hit that episode first - if one is going to start in the middle of a show that is the one to watch), after a couple more eps I decided that there WAS other decent animation out there (for adults that is). Later that summer (late eighties still) I went to an anime group and saw DYRL (bunch of other shows too) and was hooked. Dropped out after a bit (distribution to US had not really kicked in yet, too much trouble to go 6+ hours to the animation group, other interests...). Flash forward to a few years back when I decided to look up Macross again to see if anything new was out (last I heard the creator was happy leaving it and doing other projects). MF was just out in English (fansubs of course) and I was hooked once again.
  25. ANY restrictions HG tried to put on a real company would put the project on ice. No studio is going to take any direction from a company that has HG's track record...
