  1. He really is, even when I don't agree with his opinion he always gives enough of a description for why he did or did not like a film for me to decide if I would like it or not. Other reviewers, not so much. Only exception was the time he went off the deep end about something - I don't even remember what it was, perhaps he was on some kind of medication at the time and needed his dosage changed.
  2. It does? Perhaps I am dense. For proof that this MUST be an alternate universe - the Feds know what the Romulans looks like, original series makes it clear they were never seen in person till "Balance of Terror". Even Enterprise does not mess this up - the Romulans were never seen (although they had warp drive, which also puts Enterprise in an alternate universe from the original show)
  3. So the official line goes, but there were enough changes that had to of happened before that for me to say it was a close alternate and never the original.
  4. It was more then just a timeline change, the old timeline is still there - Spock Prime was thrown into an alternate reality and not just thrown back in time.
  5. I saw the movie on demand and had no problem hearing Baine - which surprised me after the comments I had read. My guess is they must have tweaked it since my hearing is not the best.
  6. You must have forgotten the whole Mind Meld scene between Kirk and Spock Prime, and Nero saying flat out what his beef was to Pike.
  7. Always a problem with the SB/Yamato ship designs. I love it so I forgive them of course.
  8. Without them people would not make the assumption that it is Earth.
  9. Just watched this. I thought it was going to be a severe slam on the US (which it was) but was pleasantly surprised when it was a slam on the whole planet (Finland excepted). The bit where North Korea claims the spaceships from the moon were made there was great. I could do without the lady in NYC saying the F bomb about 100 times in 4 minutes. Well worth the rental, but will probably not watch it a second time.
  10. Saw the film yesterday. Went to the matinee to keep down on the crowds but all the old coots (me included) showed up anyway... Either the evening showings are completely full or it is just a reflection of the audience for this movie. On to the short review. A very good film, but not great. It plods along after a certain point, which keeps it from getting an A+ review from me, but certainly a B+ to an A. All of the performances in the movie are first class but as usual a special award goes to Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal of Lincoln, the guy is simply the best actor alive today. Sally Field did an excellent job as Mary Todd Lincoln as well. Finally another special mention for Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens - the man usually gets action roles that require little acting talent, this showcased just how good of an actor he really is. This is going to be in my Blu-ray collection when it comes out.
  11. I HATE watching things on my PC rather then my TV. Really all there is to it. Well that and wanting to be able to watch it all in one sitting rather then in 10 minute chunks over the course of a few weeks. In the meantime I've got the original show and the Razor movie to watch.
  12. I watched the first two but will not watch any more till out on DVD or TV (probably DVD). Those 10 minute chunks stink like yesterday's diapers.
  13. I love the snowmen monsters, can't wait for Christmas!
  14. To be fair(*), he was trying to extend the war, not end it. (*) "What is Meesa be saying!!!"
  15. Don't underestimate the Hype machine in effect when most of these movies were made, and don't forget there was no TV whene Gone with the Wind was released - you wanted to see a movie, or enjoy AIR CONDITIONING, it was in a movie theater...
  16. Not mine, but I came across this cardstock model while looking at other models. (It should be the top one on the link - and I don't know if the name is correct but it is the shuttle Misa flew back to Earth in Macross) http://www.freewebs.com/paragon19/other.htm And a larger picture. http://www.freewebs.com/paragon19/IMG_1455.JPG
  17. Having never read the book I think it looks very promising. Might have to read the book sometime now too, just to see the difference.
  18. I couldn't help myself, I watched it... AWESOME! The interior shots did not look cheesy at all, characters were interesting, and the plot hooked me in right away. Why can't Syfy try for this level of show all the time? [edit] Other then the budget, surely they could try a little harder on their cheeper creepers...
  19. I am happy it is coming out, but I'm going to wait for it on TV (and then watch the DVD). I really HATE watching a show in 10 minute chunks and then needing to click another link to get the next one going - commercials are bad enough (and these 10 minute chunks ARE going to have commercials too)
  20. I like the ships, they look Gamilon like, although the carrier still looks nothing like the one around the Earth. One thing I disliked from the original show was that the first Gamilon ships we see are alien looking but later ships look more like the Earth ships (especially the carrier), these seem to keep more of the Gamilon asthetic. I wonder when we get to see the "Space Stuka" redesign.
  21. AND no Amidala... [oops, she was an elected queen, but is there an elected Princess, and where did George come up with such piffal as an elected queen?]
  22. No problem, if you would have said "Best" instead of "biggest", then there would have been a problem...
  23. Hadn't thought about that possability. That would be nice. As for the series perhaps descending to mediocrity - the prequals already did that...
