Star Trek Into Darkness, in theaters May 17, 2013
Dynaman replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
He forgot the "extra preachy" part about the later TV shows as well. BSG is a great case in point, he took what was good about ST and rolled that into the new BSG while dumping all the crud that ST had managed to accumulate along the way. JJ did the same with Trek, the old morality play is still there in JJ Trek - it is just not shoved in your face in as ham-fisted a manner as Voyager or some of the Next Generation shows were.- 1020 replies

That is an insult, almost as bad as the MST3K clip about Santa Claus Conquers the Martians "these are just cheap versions of the Lost in Space sets...". What are they up to now, SAW 30? Loved ED2, AoD was OK. I might give this a shot when it is out on video, but Bruce Campbel is what made the originals watchable.

This quip from him about the Star Wars prequals is classic. "To say that George Lucas cannot write a love scene is an understatement; greeting cards have expressed more passion"
-
It has my attention, I can't believe people are complaining that a prop plane with giant eyeballs is just as fast as a couple jets with giant eyeballs... That said I will most likely wait till it is out on video.

I used to watch At the Movies back in the eighties every chance I got. Even when I didn't agree with him I almost always thought his opinions were well thought out.

At the end of one Episode Sheridan was giving the "Kirk Speech" about forgiving someone who has paid for their crime, then he had to eat his words before the end of the speech. The last season did not really get its footing till near the end, the forced nature of the season 4 wrap up leaving JMS floundering around a bit to get the show back on the track he wanted. The end of the fourth season also being rushed too quickly. DS9, I'm still not thrilled with - it still has too much of that ST preachiness to it. Which is one thing in the JJ Treks that I really like - the preachiness has been excised.- 1020 replies

Final Yamato, the animation on that one is the best of the bunch till the revival stuff came along, the story is a little clunky though (if you are 18+, try to find the one with the second ending, I think, there have been at least 3 different ending sequences made for the movie). The other stuff after Yamato 2 was just not as good and the animation went from poor to decent.

I think Arrividerci is that best Yamato ever. Nishi got so upset that the ending was redone for Yamato 2 that he has been trying to off Yuki every chance he gets...

I liked Prometheus as well. Granted, it has problems which some script rewrites could have taken care of (scientists could have taken proper precautions and something still went wrong for instance) but it was fun to watch.- 1020 replies

Anyone mention Zatoichi? I've only seen the latest one but have the older ones in my Netflix queue.

One of the ships did not have an engine. In either show the inability to detect Khyron/Kamezin (I thought that had a J somewhere though) is really an intelligence failure of the highest order. The thing is the size of a small (large?) town for crying out loud, and it flew in from the equator or something close to that.

I do, very much, just not ones that are so terrible. This one was not even terrible funny, it was just terrible. Only real plus is the Samurai fighting the tank

You have to be joking, that is one of the worst movies I've ever seen, it's even too much effort to go mention in the Highlander 2 thread...

Just watched episodes 11 to 14, the divergence from the original is in full swing - and I love every bit of it. The sub was interesting but the "bottom of an alternate dimension" was hopefully just a bit of wonky translation

When the basic premise of the plot is laughable (*) there is not need to get into any details... (*) - they intercepted the asteroid far enough out into space that merely changing it's course would more then suffice.- 854 replies

We must, since the art by that stage looked a LOT like it was copied verbatim from the show - some friends of mine believe that is exactly what they did.

Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series
Dynaman replied to BoBe-Patt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not another season, but not over yet either. More episodes are coming to tie up plots points. http://www.blastr.com/2013-3-11/lucasfilm-announces-end-clone-wars-teases-new-star-wars-toon Giving closure to fans of the show is classy, syfy take note...- 1217 replies

Although the Robotech Comics certainly had their blotchy spots the last 12 issues or so of Macross Saga were generally excellent art wise. There was one issue that was done by a guest artist in that batch though - and it was as dreadful as most of the previous ones up till then. The first FT comic (when it was still Macross) was excellent as well.

Just saw Ralph today, FAR AND AWAY a better movie then Brave. Darn near laughed myself horse, and both my boys loved it too. Best way to describe it is the video game version of Roger Rabbit. (from me that is very high praise)

That is not fair, the vast majority of fans admit the prequal trilogy was lacking.
