  1. I'll answer for me with a list from years past. Star Wars and Empire Strikes back. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Saving Private Ryan. Gone With the Wind (even though it is before my time I can easily see why it is one of the greats, it transcends the time it was made) Aliens Superman (the original only) Star Trek II Letters from Iwo Jima. The Green Mile. To get things back on track "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" is my vote for best spy movie. But I've not seen Spectre yet. The advertisement for "Spy" is my vote for worst...
  2. And well he should, they usually want to know too much to begin with. Plus if it is a good story then go with it (not saying they are all good stories mind you). Especially with Dr. Who were Timey Wimey is the law of the land.
  3. Until he actually makes it on screen there is no official, even when there is. > That's quite interesting. Everyone that I talk to (myself included) say that Star Wars is an action movie. Never said anything different BUT action movie pacing has changed a lot since Star Wars came out. Although a slightly different genre the Bond films are a good example, the first entries seem to downright drag compared to the latest ones.
  4. I hate to blame Hayden Christensen for it, he might not be a great actor but those lines were so terrible that Laurence Olivier would not have been able to make them sound decent. When given the classic Star Wars banter lines he did pretty well.
  5. Have to disagree IF the differences in what is expected of a movie is factored in. The MORE MORE FASTER FASTER pacing of movies today is unthinkable back in the seventies in anything but, perhaps, grindhouse films. Star Wars is a more sedate film but it has to be judged in the context of the time, Lucas himself said that it is a sedate film but people did not react to it as such due to the amount of STUFF that was actually being shoved at them and not explained - like other scifi movies tripped over themselves doing. Star Wars was something totally new (granted - just as a repackaged batch of many things old) and that has to be taken into account when considering how good a film it is compared to others in the series.
  6. Me neither but since I just saw Pan and the latest Mad Max movie I will gladly nominate them for worst movies in whatever categories they can be slotted into. Best Action Movie is Star Wars, even with my reservations about the bad guys being a bit too cookie cutter it ended up being what a Star Wars movie should be. Best Movie of the year - In the Heart of the Sea (Like I said I have not seen many but it is refreshing to have a story that does not involve super heroes beating each other up for two hours)
  7. Spoiler season is over for The Force Awakens so beware... The problem with the New Order baddies is that they act like children, petulant children at that. If you want to see how a young character can be a leader look at "Band of Brothers". The leaders in that were young but the directors knew how to get the old beyond their years look that is required for leadership positions like they had.
  8. Gotta admit to agreeing with Duke on many of the prequal fights, they were over the top and not in a good way either. I also despise most things I believe are being called "Wushu" that may have something to do with my opinion. The TRUE (and ONLY true) mark of a master martial artist (in any form of martial art) is one who is able to conserve energy while forcing the opponent to use theirs. Fancy Martial arts in the movies do the reverse.
  9. What is the world coming too? His acting or the direction is horribly weak. As for the lightsaber fights, if Kylo is also supposed to be untrained then it gets a pass, otherwise it reminds me too much of the fight between Luke and Vader in Return of the Jedi - WAY too many spots where they left themselves open to a strike from the opponent. Fine for our heros who were untrained but really bad for a trained sword fighter.
  10. Saw it today (and stayed out of this thread till now too just in case). My opinion is that it is a solid Star Wars movie, easily the 3rd best (behind Star Wars and Empire). There are plenty of things to pick apart but for the most part I just let them slide by (and anyone trying to make ANY scientific sense of the Star Wars universe is in need of therapy... All that said...
  11. I've only seen the first two episodes, DVR missed the others. Looks to be a decent show but not up to Battlestar Galactica's gotta see it levels yet. I saw the first episode of "Childhood's End" and found it to be a decent adaptation. With the holidays I have not had time to watch more yet - watching Star Wars and Empire Strikes back in preparation for Force Awakens on Wednesday. To finish this rambling bit of a post, I got to watch the episode of "Lost in Space" where Dr. Smith and Will go into the robot to try and shrink it back down to size, terribly silly but I liked it.
  12. Redoing resurrection as part of the 2199 continuity would be nice (heck redoing everything after Yamato 2 can only be for the better). I have to admit that a second Live Action film titled "Space Battleship Andromeda" would get my money.
  13. I despise the movie (what I have seen of it) but everyone around me seems to think it was excellent.
  14. In this case it is a live action Star Blazers film.
  15. ^^ That right there. Did the theaters break a contract or did they take an out clause that is in the contract.
  16. I fully understand Mr T's point of view, doesn't change the fact he is whining. The movie business is a business and he should bloody well know that by now.
  17. I once again have to bring up that Onion (I think) headline. Star Trek fans hate new Star Trek film, call it "Fun", "Exciting"
  18. I can't believe people here are remarking that the possible destruction of the Enterprise is any kind of problem. The original Enterprise was destroyed how many times? Including the A,B,C,D,E,etc...
  19. I like it. Granted they might be showing ALL the action scenes in that one clip and I have never been in the "JJ ruined Star Trek" camp, Gene Roddenberry nearly did though.
  20. IMDB lists her in the credits. I thought I saw a mention of her not doing any after this so perhaps another actress is playing a younger version or something.
  21. I thought that was the dumbest thing I have ever seen. And I've seen the first Transformers movie... Can't think of a best fistfight.
