    Bandai DX VF-31

My favorites in order (Best to worst) are: D02 - Really like the subdued colors and the Grim Reaper emblem. Not really digging the head turret though. Toy will be displayed in fighter mode. D03 - I'm a sucker for radome VFs. Toy will be displayed in fighter mode with radome open and with the wing FAST packs attached (if we get them). D05 - Love the head design. Overall color scheme is not bad apart from the red, wish they'd lose that. Toy will probably be displayed in fighter mode. D01 - Love the head and the emblem, but not really a huge fan of the overall color scheme. Toy will probably be displayed in battroid mode. D04 - Despite it being Mirage's VF, I really don't like the purple color scheme. I may not buy this one.
  2. I suspect the markings and insignia will be added by the time the series airs in April.

    Bandai DX VF-31

As I stated previously in the NYE talkback thread........... I think the current pod is not just a recharge system for the boomerangs, but also an ejectable gunpod or beamgunpod. Note when deployed the pod splits into two sections, the boxy structure on the right being the wireless recharge system for the boomerangs. However, the long part on the left looks like some sort of gunpod. If you look at the attached pics there seems to be some sort of pistol grip, which I've marked with an arrow. I'm guessing it's some sort of heavy beam cannon that can be fired when the pod is extended and perhaps the gunpod can be ejected into the hand of the VF-31. This would seem to be born out by the Figure-Oh magazine cover. Graham
  4. I'm getting more onside with each watching of the 0.89 prologue episode. I've gone from originally being negative when I listened to the podcast, to neutral when I watched the raw, to cautiously optimistic after watching the subbed version a few times. As long as the TV series has a lot of dogfights, explains the technology behind Walkure's abilities, doesn't overuse the magical girl transformation or dancing VF-31s scenes too often and they kill off some of the characters, I'm sure it will be fine.
  5. I don't think it's a BDI system in the Sv-262, or at least not a full BDI system. To me it looks more likely curved monitors on the inside of the cockpit that conform to the shape of the cockpit (see attached screenshots). Also, seems like they are using traditional throttle and stick to control the SV-262 (see attached screenshots). Apologies for the ads on the attached pics but the screenshots were taken on my phone and the adds pop-up on the MX Player app when I pause the video to take a screenshot. Graham
  6. On my 3rd watch of the 0.89 episode, things I like, dislike and am on the fence about so far: Things I like so far: 1) The fight choreography between the VF-31s and the Sv-262ss is pretty good. 2) The fight choreography between the VF-31 and Zentradi mecha is pretty good. 3) The mecha are all well detailed and animated. 4) The mecha designs. The VF-31, Sv-262, various Zentradi mecha and Hayate's power loader are all nice looking designs. 5) Overall animation quality and meshing of the cell character animation and CG mecha animation was fairly good for a present day TV series. Things I dislike so far: i) The whole magical girl transformation animation for each Walkure character. I sincerely hope we don't have to go through this every episode (although I suspect we will). ii) The boomerangs and the agility and capabilities of the Walkure team. The tech seems indistinguishable from magic and too advanced for what we know of technology in the Macross universe. iii) The Ariel Knights came off character-wise as genetic anime villains, especially the young one who charges in to combat (can't remember his name off the top of my head). Things I'm on the fence about so far: A) The character design and character's in general. No real stand-out character's that grab me at once. Probably because too many character's introduced in one episode. For me, there was certain no character that's grabbed me instantly like Hikaru, Roy, Minmay, Gamlin, Mylene, Basara, Sheryl, Ozma or Alto. B) The music. To me it's instantly forgettable so far. I honestly can't remember any of the songs or instrumental BGM (was there even any BGM?). If the music in this episode is any indication, this series desperately needs Sheryl, Basara, Minmay and Kanno. With every other Macross series, OVA or movie, I've rushed to buy the music CDs immediately. With Delta, I still can't even remember any of the music after 3 watches. This may change later, but not impressed with the music and songs so far. I'm not commenting on the story yet, as we're only one episode in. Anyway, just my current opinion based on this 0.89 prologue episode and will certainly change when the series proper airs.
  7. Gonna watch a third time today. Wanna check and make sure all of Delta's hits against the Zentradi mecha were disabling hits or whether there were any cockpit kills. From what I remember they were all disables, i.e. limbs lopped off, but wanna make sure.
  8. Perhaps Lady M will be Mylene, that would be so cool. I'd rather see Mylene back than Milia. And in the context of Walkure being a singing group, it makes more sense Mylene be a mentor/leader figure. Also, based on what we seen on-screen in the first episode, Walkure doesn't actually seem that effective as a cure to the Var Syndrome. I mean on-screen, we only see one Zentradi being cured by their singing. The rest of the Zentradi have their mecha disabled by Delta Squadron. That's not to say that they weren't cured off-screen, but it wasn't shown and thus by no means certain without confirmation.
  9. I have a feeling that at some stage in the series, the butch, buff Zentradi captain of the Macross class vessel will be infected by the Var Syndrome and Delta squadron and Walkure well end up having to fight against the Macross class vessel.
  10. The context I got from watching the subtitled episode was that Lady M is Mirage.
  11. Ok, so after doing a lot of freeze framing of the mecha combat scenes on my laptop and watching the episode for a second time, but with subs, I have to say I'm more onside with Delta. Still can't say I'm completely onside with the whole Walkure Sailormoon transformations and boomerangs, but at last my opinion has changed from negative to cautiously optimistic. Oh yeah, and I'm betting on Arad dying soon, Mirage taking his place as leader of Delta Squadron and Hayate joining Delta to fill the empty space.
  12. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, if it is a gun, it will deploy over the top for Fighter and GERWALK modes and eject into the hand for Barrel is mode.
  13. OK, I'm going to revise my opinon on the mecha animation quality and detailing. I watched the raw yesterday once only on my TV, while being distracted by wife and son. I've now just been going through it on my laptop and freeze framing the mecha scenes, especially the VF-31s and yes, there is actually a heck of a lot of detail present on the mecha, more than I first thought. Now, about the recharge pack it splits into two sections, the boxy structure on the right being the wireless recharge system for the boomerangs. However, the long part on the left looks like some sort of gunpod. If you look at the attached pics there eve seems to be some sort of pistol grip, which I've marked with an arrow. In fact I think on a recent magazine cover (Figure Oh magazine?), this gunpod(?) was even shown in the hand of the VF-31. I'm guessing it's some sort of heavy beam cannon that can be fired when the pod is extended and perhaps the gunpod can be ejected into the hand of the VF-31. However, judging from the animation, it cannot be fired from the fighter mode belly position, as the muzzle would apear to be blocked by the groin piece. Graham
  14. At this point, that would be a relief I think. At this point, that would be a relief I think.
  15. The boomerangs seen a heck of a lot more capable than the floating duck mics of M7. But true, I had forgotten about them. I'm hoping the major shift in tone that's been mentioned for episode 2 is that all the Walkure singers get killed off, leaving us with only stoaway girl (sorry, can't remember her name), as the only singer for the series, leaving room for more Valk on Valk dogfight and less Sailormoon magical girl crap. But that's most likely wishful thinking.
  16. The boomerang technology seems too advanced for the Macross universe, unless there has been some rapid breakthoughths in miniturization since Frontier. As someone mentioned during the Podcast, why need Valks (apart for as wireless recharging stations). How do the boomerangs fly for one? I guess it has to be sub-miniture anti-gravity drives, as there are no thrusters, jets, verniers or propellers visible. If anti-grav technology has advanced to that level, why do Valks still need Gerwalk mode, or even wings for that matter. You no longer need wings for lift if you have so efficient anti-gravity drives.
  17. The Valk animation was far better in Frontier. However, as has been mentioned, maybe this will be improved a bit by the time the actual series is released
  18. I loved the first episode of Frontier, really blew me away. I love bug wars.....haha
  19. Macross rivets?????? You mean the circle-bar verniers?
  20. Perhaps the battroid mode is a magical girl in a frilly dress.
