Macross Δ (Delta) Mecha/Technology Thread - READ 1st POST
Graham replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I tend to discount any information that is non-official. So yeah I treat the Master Files and other such non-official sources as fanfic (but with pretty pictures)......LOL. I can't remember if Macross the Ride is considered canon or not. I didn't mention the SDF-1's rail guns on purpose, as the discussion was about VFs, not capital ships. But anyway, a pod mounted rail gun for dog fighting would make sense for many reasons as long as it cold have a high enough rate of fire. Having the VF-31's arm guns being rail guns would also have the advantage of having them being able to draw power from the VF, than user a separate powerpack/capacitor system for power. -

My favorite scene was Mirage's rescue of Hayate's VF-171. My favorite scene will only ever be mecha scenes.....haha Anyway, love the music in that scene.- 299 replies

Hang on, excluding the railgun gunpods and SAP-mounted railgun used by the VF-2SS in Macross II, which is not in the same continuity anyway, what rail guns have we seen in the main Macross timeline? The only two railguns I can think of are Michael's 55mm SSL-9B Dragunov sniper rifle and the 4 large mounted Shinnakasu/Vigors 320mm railguns on the VB-6 in Macross Frontier. I certainly don't remember any other railgun gunpods. Graham -

I doubt it detaches. At least I hope not. Doesn't look large enough to actually hold any ammo if it does. -

I'm kinda disappointed that Bandai can't even get something as simple as this released in time for the start of the show. -

I think the Windows blacking out was done on purpose to prevent Freya looking outside and seeing that everything in the city looked normal and realising in fact their was no VAR outbreak.- 299 replies

Well, if the TomyTec GIMIX 1/144 pre-painted kits are accurate to Kawamori's design, it looks like the arm guns attach to a white box structure that is partially recessed into the front of the forearm. It would make sense for this to be the magazine. Although that box structure would also have to accommodate the swivel mechanism that allows the guns to rotate back 180° on the forearm. -

Even though there could be a certain amount of ammunition miniaturization due to advances in more efficient propellants, telescopic cased ammo or caseless ammo etc, there is only so much you can shrink a large calibre shell. A 30mm shell is a 30mm shell after all and takes up a certain amount of physical space even if the VF-31 is only carrying say 120rds or 150rds per gun for example and those arm guns just don't look big enough to be holding the ammoin the external part of the gun on the arm. -

Yep, I know, understand and agree with all that. But I'm still curious where the ammunition is physically stored though and I'm hoping Kawamori actually did factor space for ammunition storage in his design. -
I'm definitely gonna be buying the fighters.

I've been thinking about ammunition storage for the VF-31 arm cannons, specifically where the heck is the ammunition stored? We know that the arm cannons are shell firing, not beam weapons. This has already been confirmed by Kawamori. Initially I thought the ammunition magazine for the arm cannons may be stored inside the arm shields, but this has since been discounted by the recent 1/72 Bandai model kit CAD renders which show that the folding knife is in fact stored inside the shield. So, this got me to thinking where else could the ammunition be stored? Now even though the arm cannons are only single barreled weapons, I doubt very much that there is room inside the slender white color arm cannon nacelles for a helical wrap-around-the-barrel magazine like in the VF-1's GU-11 Gunpod. To me, assuming the VF-31's arm cannon is between calibre 30mm to 55mm I doubt there is room for more than just the barrel and breach/firing/extraction/ejection mechanism inside the arm cannon nacelle. Initially, this left me a bit stumped, but then I remembered that the hands do not actually retract into the forearms on the VF-31, so a portion of the forearm interior could possibly serve as the storage location for the ammunition for the arm cannons. Yes, we have seen the NUNS logo on the VF-171. Attached screenshot from Mission 0.89. I haven't gone through mission 1 and 2 to check yet. Graham- 299 replies

Only watched the opening and ending so far. Hopefully will have time to download and watch episode 2 in the next few days. Still don't like the songs. I just don't find them catchy at all. Far prefer the songs in Frontier to Delta. Liked quite a bit of the opening animation, as quite a lot of VF stuff going on. The 31 is really growing on me, can't wait for the toys. Disliked the ending animation as no VF stuff going on. Graham- 299 replies

Only thing I didn't really like about Genysis were the actor they hired to play Kyle Reese. I thought he didn't really fit the role and also the silly schoolbus flipping scene.

One of my complaints with the movie was that the transmuted-Zod-corpse-monster looked too much like a generic LotR movie CGI Troll.......LOL! Actually, I didn't know this was supoosed to be Doomsday, until I read it online after seeing the movie. I'm not as familiar with DC as I am Marvel, what can I say.

Just saw the first John Wick and loved the gun fight choreography. Can't wait to see the 2nd movie, especially after seeing the recent YouTube video of Keanu doing 3-gun training/practice with Taran Tactical.- 220 replies

Likely won't see this, as my son who is nearly 12 has grown out of Disney cartoons. I know nothing about this movie, only that on Facebook today, I've been seeing comments that Furries are really into this movie......hahah.
