Ridley Scott to direct the next Alien film?
Graham replied to Jolly Rogers's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's pretty good news if it's true. Ridley Scott is still a good director IMO. He certainly has more hits than misses. As good a job as Cameron did on Aliens, what is it 18 years ago? He's not the same director that he was back then and with his current fetish for all things aquatic, he'd probably make the movie about freediving Aliens searching for a sunken cruise liner or some such nonsense. IMO Cameron is a bit like John Carpenter, great in his prime, but well past it now. Graham -
Nah, your topic should be best Valk engine intake or foot thruster internal detail. Graham

OK, after much careful thought and deliberation.........NOT! My vote goes to the SV-51's nosecone as it's nice and long and has spiky bits Graham (not a member of nosecone fetish anonymous)

Guys, just got the quote for the polo shirts and they are only going to cost US$6 each. I'm pretty happy about that. I should be seeing a sample next week. Graham

Totally Off Topic - But FREAKIN ME OUT
Graham replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Guys, I'm all for personal safety and everything, and would also keep a firearm for personal protection if the law here allowed it, but aren't you guys perhaps being a little too paranoid? Or is living in the US really that dangerous? Anway Mechamaniac, keep us posted as to what happens. Graham -
Yeah, I'll give you that, it certainly is um.........................orginal. I know what you mean, sometimes, topics are repeated so frequently that this board seems to be in a permanent state of deja-vu. e.g. 'Who plays with their toys?', 'How old is everybody?', 'What's Yamato going to make next?' type topics. Aegis, I guess you are having a slow night eh? Um....I like Ice Cream Cones! Now about this being a stupid topic............................. But seriously............................well, oh heck I can't be serious. Favourite nosecones!!!!!!!!! <_< Have we sunk so low that this is the best we can come up with! I just hope the members over at RT.com don't read this topic, or we'll never live down the shame. Sigh...............goes off to bash head against a brick wall. Graham

Totally Off Topic - But FREAKIN ME OUT
Graham replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Here's an idea, as you know where the pay phone is that the call is coming from and both calls have been at the same time, you could wait nearby the phone booth the next night to try to see who it is that is making the calls. Graham -
Going to see it next Monday evening (Dec 22) together with my wife. Nothing more to add until then. Graham

Proabably just some girl with a crush on you. Sounds quite sweet actually. I wouldn't worry too much, unless she turns out to be some insane psycho stalker chick who's planning to decapitate you on the 12th day of Christmas and stick your head on the top of her Christmas tree. Hey, we could have a good idea for a horror movie here. Graham, (who likes to reasure people) -
Heh, this is only the umpteenth time that this type of poll has been done in the history of MW. As always, my view is the same. Asking people if they 'play' with toys is too vague a question. First you should clarify what is the meaning of play. Obviously, play means diferent things to different people, especially of different age groups. As for myself, most of the time my toys are in their display cabinet, but 4 or 5 times a week I do like to take one or two toys out and transform them, several times usually while watching TV. Sometimes I just like to hold them without transforming them. Do I consider this play? In a word no. However, this poll seems to assume that transfoming a toy = play. Graham

Heh, I don't actually know who any of those people are. It must be at least 10 years or maybe longer since I watched an English dubbed anime. Graham

I have had a chance to closely examine Yamato's Q-Rau, although only the mecha, not the pilot figure, which wasn't ready at the time. Based on the Yamato toy, there is no way that the pilots legs could fit into the mecha's thighs. However, it does appear as if they fit into the back section of the mecha. Graham

Just re-watching Mospeada for the first time in more than ten years. I'd forgotten how fun it was. I must say I'm really looking forward to the Toynami MPC Legioss toys when they are released next year. They are my most anticipated toy release of 2004 so far along with the Yamato Macross Zero toys. Although I'm not a fan of Toynami's previous MPC or Superposeable toys, I'm fairly confident that they will strike a home run with the MPC Legioss toys. The current sculpt of the MPC Legioss looks great IMO and while it may slightly resemble the old IMAI model kit, it seems to be much improved in terms of accuracy of the sculpt, articulation and features. At any rate it is light years ahead of the the old large Gakken toy in terms of accuracy. I think Toynami will have learn't from their mistakes with the VF-1 MPC line. And to be honest, there weren't really that many problems with the VF-1 MPC IMO. OK, it's not a toy I would ever pay money for, but it didn't have too many QC probelms. Personally, my main disappointment with the VF-1 MPC comes from the very poor, inaccurate sculpt of the nosecone and intake area and the poor proportioning in battroid mode. Anyway, I say good luck to Toynami with the Legioss MPC, as they're the only ones making Mospeada toys Graham

I can just see the whiteboards at Yamato - the new Max Jenius VF-1S. With vibrating kung fu action. Coming fall 2004. (BTW, thanks a lot - I'll never look at my toys in the same light again). Heck, why do you think Kawamori designed the SV-51 with those little spines around the nose cone! 'Ribbed for her pleasure' One way or another, I bet the SV-51 toys are going to be played with a lot. Graham

Nope, the VF-1 has vertical stabilizers(tails). As far as I know, the moving parts on the VF-1's vertical stabilizers are the rudders, which control left and right yaw, but have nothing to do with up and down pitch control. Graham

Hi Jung, If you got that error, it probably means that there was a character in the URL which it wouldn't accept. I can't remember which characters it is, but I know from personal experience, that it doesn't like '&'. Great custom BTW. And nice to see you back on MW. Graham

Lift is not soley dependant on the amount of wing area. The body of a plane can also act as a lifting surface. The Legioss may have enough thrust to get up into the air, but my point is does it actually have enough control surfaces to stay there. As you said, with enough thrust you can get anything up in the air, but the Legioss would probably be a very unstable design and without the right control surfaces, it's just going to depart controlled flight very quickly. Graham

FYI, this paint scheme was first featured in the June 2002 issue of Model Graphix magazine. Graham

I love the look of the Legioss, but studying the design got me thinking would it actually be capable of atmospheric flight as it lacks both horizontal stabilzers and elevators? While the VF-1 also lacks any horizontal stabilzers and elevators, it has thrust vectoring in the vertical axis, which when controlled by the computorised fly-by-wire system could be used for pitch control and horizontal stability. While the Legioss may also have thrust vectoring, it is in the horizontal, not vertical axis, so could not be used for pitch control or stability. Thoughts? Graham

Nope, the pilot's legs do not go into the Q-Rau's thighs. The pilot's legs actually fit ito the lower rear back part. Graham

Guys, I'm pretty sure this is just the GBP armor sold by itself without the Valk. The HLJ blurb about paint, is just a screw up on HLJ's part. Graham
-
I disagree that it would have been too hard to render the Armored VF-0S in CG. I've seen examples of CG rendered Armored GBP-1S in the opening FMV for various Macross console and PC games and they look fine. I'm thinking it was more likely due to budget and/or time constraints. Graham
