  1. Pitt/Smith would have been a disaster. I like Pitt alot, but he is NOT Crockett. Will Smith's problem is that he plays Will Smith in every movie. As far as I am concerned, I have no interest in seeing anything else he does at this point. 352403[/snapback] Definitely would have prefered Pitt to Farrel as Crocket, but Will Smith is a definite no no for Tubbs. Problem is that Crocket and Tubbs are such iconic characters and Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas so nailed the parts, it's very difficult to imagine any of today's current crop of actors fillling their shoes. 2. Ah, didn't notice that the link to Hedge Knight was for a graphic novel version. Well spotted WDC. In that case I won't buy it I think. The art book does look nice though. Graham
  3. Seems like the region 1 BSG - season 2 DVD set containing the first 10 episodes from season 2 has been released already. That sort of crept in under the radar (or should I say Dradis ). I'd heard no news about it previously. As much as I want to own the series on DVD, I'm in two minds about buying this box set, as it only contains the 10 episodes aired so far, when we all know that eventually, they will release a complete season 2 set, which will probably be cheaper than buying this half set and the other half set I'm sure they will release next year. 4. Just finished 'A Game of Thrones' last night. Awesome book. As luck would have it, 'A Clash of Kings', 'A Storm of Swords 1 & 2' just arrived today from Amazon.....yay! However, I've already started reading Murakami's latest book 'Kafka of the Shore', this morning, so I'll finish that before starting on 'A Clash Of Kings'. Anyway, can any George R.R. Martin fan tell me if the following two books are worth getting? The Hedge Knight. The Art of George R.R. Martin's A Song Of Ice & Fire. Graham
  5. No plans to get an MPC Voltron myself. I've always hated the concept of robots that transform or combine into animals. Give me military mecha any day. Graham
  6. Can't stand Farrel as an actor. He is the new Ben Afleck. Just watched the trailer. Gaahhhhh they start playing rap music halfway through.........NOooooooooooooooooo! Sorry, the movie may be called Miami Vice, but it is NOT Miami Vice in any way, shape or form. Yes, there may have been lots of guns and shooting in the trailer and fast boats and planes, but it just did not feel like Vice to me. And Farrel and Foxx are completely the wrong casting choice as Crocket and Tubbs IMO. Oh well, at least I just got my shipping notice from Amazon for season 2 of the TV series. Can't wait for season 3 to come out so I can see Crocket's Testarossa and S&W 645 again. Graham
  7. Congratulations. Graham
  8. I have to admit to never having seen a single episode of South Park as AFAIK, it's never been shown here on Hong Kong TV. Actually, I did get to see a couple of minutes on a friend's DVD once, but the minimalist, i.e. low budget animation style put me off. Is it worth putting in the effort to watch? I did enjoy Team America, which I understand is by the same creators. Graham
  9. Where's my Hasbro BSG ships.......screw this lame SW stuff. Graham
  10. But have ya seen his feet? Graham
  11. Just listened to those dub clips. Oh dear me! Mari sounds OK, but yes a little bit old to be playing a 15 year old. As for the voice acting for Hikaru and Roy....WTF!!!!! All I will say is that's further proof that anime should remain in it's original Japanese language with English subs. Graham
  12. Guys, c'mon. I'm in the top 10 posters list and usually post between 5 to 15 posts a day, sometimes more. It's not like I'm a lurker here. As for running Macrossworld, there have been no updates for the past 3 months or so, because when Shawn changed server, he forgot to give Jesse and me the passswords to the new server, so we couldn't update. I only managed to get in touch with Shawn a couple of weeks ago to get the new passwords. Shawn is a very busy guy now unfortunately. Just be grateful he's still paying the bills for this place. Jesse and I have updates planned soon, but in case you may not have noticed, it's close to Christmas time, so family stuff takes priority at the moment. And as Shin mentioned, I have a one and a half year old son, who takes up most of my available free time now. Graham
  13. The huge variety of MS in Gundam is one of the many things I don't like about Gundam series. Economically, it would just be too unrealllistic to produce so many new models of mecha in such a short time frame. Can you imagine in the real world if even a superpower like the US tried to produce a completely new model Jetfighter or tank every week, they would bankrupt themselves in short order. I'm sure that MS are not cheap to build or design, but new models seem to appear in nearly every episode of every series. This is great for selling model kits and toys in the real world, but unrealistic in terms of presenting a believable universe. I actually like that there are fewer models of VF in Macross, with most VFs serving from 10 to 20 years before being replaced. This is far more realistic and believable than Gundam IMO. Graham
  14. Gotta say a big 'thank you' to the white drew carey for bring this series of books to my attention. I'm about 600 pages into 'A Game of Thrones' now and absolutely loving it. Best book I've read in a long, long time. I like it so much that when I was just 200 pages into A Game of Thrones, I ordered the rest of the books without hesitating. Although I grew up on sword & sorcery books such as R.E. Howards's Conan stories and Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion books, I'm not much into the fantasy genre these days, instead prefering contemporary thrillers, or hard science fiction stories. So it came as a big surprise to me that I'm enjoying it so much. Still no gratuitous sex though . Yes, there's some sex scenes, but they are faily short and don't go into much descriptive detail. Certainly not the 'Penthouse Letters' standard I was expecting after reading Less than Super Ostrich's comments in this thread. Graham
  15. It's actually mentioned several times in the series that the car(s) and the boat are supplied as part of his cover (goods confiscated from criminals under RICO statutes IIRC) Not sure about his wardrobe though When Crocket's black Ferrari Daytonna Spyder is destroyed, he actually has to drive a pick-up truck for a few episodes and he complains that nobody is going to buy his cover driving such a cheap car. He has to wait a few eps IIRC until a suitable fancy confiscated vehicle (white Ferrari Testarossa) becomes available. Graham
  16. Heh, he said 'BJ' Graham
  17. All that stuff was supposed to be supplied by the department as part of Crocket's cover as a drug dealer, not bought from his salary. Grahma
  18. Personally, I don't rate Mamoru Nagano that highly, as his ornate, spiky and highly impractical mecha designs do nothing for me. His L-Gaim designs were his best work IMO, but I've never liked his FSS and Brain Powerd mecha. He seems to lack variety in his work. And who is Kobayashi? For me the top 5 mecha designers would be: - 1) Kawamori for all his Macross VF and Armored Core designs. 2) Shinji Aramaki for his work on Mospeda, MADOX and Megazone 23. 3) Hajime Katoki for his Gundam Sentinel & Victory Gundam designs. 4) Izabuchi Yutaka for his Char's Counter Attack, 0080, Gasaraki and Patlabor designs. 5) Kunio Okawara for his Votoms mecha. (I can't stand 99.99% of his Gundam designs, but his Votoms work is inspired). Graham
  19. So go on tell us, did you buy Full House? Graham
  20. Whoa.......what's all this to do with updating the splash page? Anyway, I've finally managed to track down Shawn and get the updated passwords to the new server, so updates will start soon, once I get some family problems cleared up. Graham
  21. Robotech Masters? Ah....you mean Harmony Gold right? Afterall, are they not the masters of Robotech. Graham
  22. Just preordered 'Miami Vice - Season Two'. Best cop/action show ever IMO. Also, ordering 'The Clint Eastwood Gift Set (A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)' as my Christmas present to myself. Love those movies. Graham
  23. Heh, I dig the breasts on the female Lego figures. Graham
  24. Shin is correct, Takani did most of the model box art for the old Imai/Arii/Bandai Macross kits. He also did the amazing box art for the old Bandai Xabungle kits. He has also been doing military model box art for decades. His most recent Macross work AFAIK, was the art for the Wave 1/72 scale Macross 7 VF-17 & VF-19Kai/Blazer vinyl battroid kits back in 1995. His VF-17 Battroid box art being my favorite piece of his work. There are actually two Takani art books published that I know of. I have both of them. The first was published in 1983. This book is fairly hard to track down now, although I imagine Seichi could probably help. The second book was published a year or two ago and can still be found online. This book has about 8 pages of his Macross box art pics, full page size with no writing covering them. IMO, it's worth it just for those pics. Graham
  25. I strongly disagree with the statement that Tenjin based 'everything' off of Takani. While it's true that the layout of the first 3 of the early Hasegawa VF-1 fighter mode box art pics (VF-1A Hikaru, VF-1J Hikaru & VF-1S Focker fighter modes) share certain similarities to Takani's work, with regard to layout, lighting etc, this is not really true for the bulk of Tenjin's Macross work, including the majority of his Hasegawa box art kits. IMO Tenjin's box art for the Hasegawa Macross Plus kits, Macross Zero kits, M7 kit and VF-X2 kit is certainly very different from Takani's style IMO. Even most of the VF-1 kits such as the VF-1 battroid kits, Strike & Super VF-1 Fighters and VT-1 & VE-1 bear no resemblance to Takani's style IMO. With regard to the similarities between Takani's Macross box art and Tenjin's early Hasegawa VF-1 fighter box art pics I have heard two stories from fairly reliable sources with regard to this. One is that the similarities by Tenjin were intentional as a homage to Takani. Two, that Hasegawa asked Tenjin to do the box art in a similar style. Not sure if either of these stories are true though. Also, you have to remember that Tenjin was creating Macross art long before Hasegawa commissioned him to do the art for their Macross models. In his pre-Hasegawa days, Tenjin had some great Macross pics on his Valkyrie Maniax site (now sadly down). These had no resemblence to Takani's work. Tenjin has also created art for the Maross games VFX-2 and MPGE, the stunning Japanese Macross Plus DVD box art and Macross calendar art. Again all very different from Takani's art. I have great respect for both Takani and Tenjin and personally find their artistic styles widely different. I've previously heard several members of this forum accuse Tenjin of plagiarizing Takani's work and it always annoys the heck out of me (although I am not accusing you of this Solscud). Graham
