Backback should be super tight on the vF-0A as Yamato really improved the hinge. In battroid mode, it should sit flush against the backplate with no floppiness. There is a trick to it though, which is difficult to describe, especially as I don’t have the toy in front of me at the moment. Basically, you have to angle out the part at the bottom of the backplate, then push up the hinge arm, until it locks ito place. I’ll try to take some pics later. I’m really impressed by the improved backpack and knee and arm swivel joints on both my VF-0A. Graham

David, Remember, the rear landing gear is not supposed to be in the belly plates. That was incorrect on the Yamato 1/72 scale toy. The correct loction for the rear landing gear is in the wing roots. The only effect having the gunpods in the belly plates would have is perhaps needing slghtly longer landing gear for the extra clearance, which if a working telescopic function for the gear can be achieved would solve a lot of problems. Probably the easiest method for FAST Pack-less gunpods, would be to have simple plug-in, removable false half gunpods on the belly plates, to give the appearance of them being semi-recessed. Graham

The Kawamori Design Works books has pics showing how the 2 gunpods attached to the YF-21 in fighter mode without FAST Packs. They are semi-recessed into the belly plates. In episode #2 of the Mac Plus OVA, there is an aerial gunnery scene, where the YF-19 & YF-21 are in fighter mode, shooting their gunpods and beam weapons. If you freeze frame this scene, you can see the gunpods mounted on the YF-21's belly plates IIRC. Graham

The RAF Typhoons have always had the 27mm cannon. AFAIK, it was never removed, they just didn't train on it and had no ammo. But it's great if it is being cleared for operational use. How many times do those in charge need to re-learn that fighters need guns and missiles, not only missiles. Graham

According to the OVA, the Hasegawa instructions and Tenjin's additional Macross Zero art in his 'Valkyries' book, the VF-0A does not have any Rabbit or Skull insignia on the heatshield, only on the tail fins. Graham

The release is still scheduled for end of November. This date may or may not slip, depending on how smoothly any fitting and sizing issue (if there are any) get worked out. Even with CAD/CAM and EDM cut steel molds, the tooling still usually needs a bit of tweaking to get things just right.
