  1. The Roy 1/48 VF-1S toy is the DYRL version and has 4 differences from the TV version: - 1) The toy has the yellow DYRL head arrows on the sides of the head. The TV version should have black head arrows. 2) The toy has solid DYRL type elbows. Only the 1/48 VF-1J toys have the TV 'U' type elbows. 3) The pilot is in DYRL flight suit, which is completely different from the TV flight suit. 4) The toy only has the articulated DYRL type 'chicken hands', not the non-articulated fixed pose bubble hands of the TV version. These only come with the VF-1J toys IIRC. Yes, this is TV accurate. It has a DYRL movie type VF-1A head, not the the TV type VF-1A head. DYRL VF-1A heads have a more extended eye-piece that has a grey border around it. In comparison TV VF-1A heads have a flatter eye-peice with no border. Yamato has never made a TV accurate VF-1A head. Same thing, as above has a DYRL type head, not the TV head. Can't remember if it comes with TV hands or not. Need to check mine. By 'gray' if you mean the recently released Urban Camo GBP, this never appeared in the TV series only in a hobby magazine. You want the blue and red version to be accurate to the TV series. The double-barreled Strike cannon was only used in DYRL, not in the TV series. If you want to stick to TV accurate, you need to buy either the Hikaru VF-1J with FAST pack set (or Max & Milia sets, but they are color specific). Note the stand-alone Supe/Strike FAST pack set includes DYRL type arm FAST packs. The TV arm FAST packs are a different shape and only come with the VF-1J sets. None of the Yamato FAST backs are gray. Hope that helps. Graham
  2. No, not cool at at. Clips cobbled together from recent sci-fi/action blockbusters that happen to feature fighter jets do not a good Macross video make. Plus anything that features Ben Assfleck, automatically gets two thumbs down. Graham
  3. Aw c'mon, you gotta admit that together with the Zakrello, the Zeong is one of the silliest looking mecha from the orginal series. Graham
  4. I think this definitely the version from the Last Red Shoulder OVA, as the waist gatling dosen't connect to an extended chest vent as it does in the Roots of Ambition OVA versions. If it is the Last Red Shoulder version then it means we could possibly be getting, some extra Scopedog hand weapons that Chirico's friends were carrying in the OVA, i.e. the SAT-03 bazooka (same as came with DMZ # 03) and HRAT-23 4 barrel rocket launcher gun. A short barrel GAT-22C is also used in the OVA, but the standard DMZ GAT-22 can convert to the short barrel version anyway. Graham
  5. Here's some more pics of the upcoming Takara-Tomy DMZ # 05 Scodedog Turbo Custom from the new July issue of Hobby Japan Magazine. Looks like it will just have the standard Turbo Custom mission pack, without the chains and other stuff. However, this is obviously just an early resin sculpt, so between now and the release in October a lot could change. Graham
  6. I saw Star Wars on it's original theatrical release together with my mum back in 1977. I was 7 years old at the time. Watched it in the small cinema (I forget the name), in the high street in my home town of Bletchley. That cinema closed down many years ago, but I have many fond memories of watching movies there as a kid. I remember it was a beatiful hot summer's day the day we saw Star Wars. And none of this 'A New Hope' nonsense please. To those of us that were old enough to see it on it's theatrical release, it will forever be just 'Star Wars'. Graham
  7. Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive by 90%. . . . . . . . . It's called a Wedding Cake. Graham
  8. When the YF-19 with Fold booster set is released I've just been told it will have the following improvements. Gunpod now straight (parallel to the arms) in fighter mode. Nose locking mechanism has been redesigned to to make it easier to transform. Retractable shoulder flaps now more secure, so shouldn't fall off so easily. Some other improvement to the shoulder, which I'm not clear about. Hopefully the gap in fighter mode has been reduced, but don't quote me on that. Graham

    Please Read

I've been told that the VF-0 POM replacement upper arms are now available, so you can start asking HLJ or other Japan-based retailers for them. Graham
  10. Zeong, that's the one that wears a mini-skirt, right? Graham
  11. Looks like the DMZ #05 is coming out in October, right in time for my birthday. Well, I know what my present is going to be. Graham
  12. Hah, you should have bought the first Scopedog (DMZ # 01). Lots of weathering and some Tampo printed markings. The DMZ # 03 Scopedog with Round Mover is supposed to b a factory fresh version, so no markings or weathering. It's a toy of the new unused Scopedogs that Fyana and Chirico find on the Mystery spaceship X, in the Deadworld Sunsa story arc. Graham
  13. There's no difference in magazines. You use the same magazines for either live or blank ammo. There are two ways to make a live semi-auto or selective fire firearm cycle reliably with blank ammo. 1) You can permanently convert it to fire blanks. This usually envolves grinding off the locking lugs or removing the locking mechanism and partially obstructing the barrel to ensure you get enough back pressure by either drilling the barrel and welding a pin through it or by drilling and taping the muzzle end of the barrel and installing a a hollow hex-head screw to restrict barrel diameter. Sometimes, on pistols, a lighter recoil spring is also used. 2) The second way, which is what the military does on rifles and machine guns is to temporarily mount an exernal blank firing adaptor to the muzzle of the weapon. These are usually yellow (well they are in the UK miliitary, not sure about US). Of course a revolver will fire blanks reliably without any modifications. Unmodified semi-autos will fire the first shot, but will need to be hand cycled to eject the case and chamber the next round. I used to work in a company that did firearm movie rentals. Graham
  14. Never liked the Psycho Gundam myself. I mean it's a robot that transforms into a robot sitting in a chair.......LOL! Graham
  15. But if you are going to have technobabble, at least get it right. When so obsious and stupid a mistake is made, it really ruins the movie (if you are a gun guy). The more factually accurate and realistic a film is and the more professional the gun handling, the more interesting it is to me. The more likely I am to watch it multiple times and/or buy the DVD, something I would never do with DH2. Graham
  16. Basically, it's a complete redesign from the ground up. It's a very, very cool toy. Graham
  17. I've got DMZ # 1, 2 & 3. They are all great toys. My DMZ Strikedog's hip and knee joints don't seem as tight as those on the two DMZ Scopedogs, but the toy is still more stable than the Yamato 1/12. No major complaints really. The Microman Ypsilon is a pain. His hands kept falling off in the cockpit when I tried to pose him holding the twin control sticks, so I finally super-glued the hand into the wrists. Yeah, the claw with retracting cannon is a cool feature. I found that the fingers on the gun hand have to be glued in due to the weight of the big bazooka. If you just static pose the toy, the bazooka is fine, but if you actually play with the toy, the bazoka will quite frequently fall of the shoulder when you are moving the toy around due to the weapon's center of gravity. The heavest part of the weapon (the twin mags) being furthest away from the wrist joint. Graham
  18. Die Hard ended with # 1 for me. # 2 was pure crap beacuse of the sheer number of really stupid firearms errors, espcially the line: - "That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me! You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn't show up on your airport X-ray machines, and it costs more than you make here in a month!" There's no such model as a Glock 7. Glocks are Austrian, not German. No guns are made of porcelain. Glocks easily show up on airport metal detectors. Glocks are not that expensive, even back in the 90s. The other error that really get's my goat, is the bad guys switching between mags using live ammo and blank ammo in their (IIRC) select fire MP5s. Sorry, you can't do that. Either a firearm is permanently modified to fire blanks, in which case it can no longer fire live ammo. Or in the case of a live firearm, you need to fit an external BFA (blank firing adaptor) to the muzzle in order to fire blanks and you can't fire live ammo again until you remove the BFA. Blank ammo will not cycle the firearm in either semi or full auto without a BFA. Oh and the hand grenades with the really, really slow fuses. Silly, silly movie. Graham
  19. Somebody should put some legs on it! Graham
  20. Personally, I'd rather see more of Summer Glau's ass than see her kicking ass, but that's just me. Graham
  21. I highly recommend the 1/48 ATM-09-DD Buglarydog, it's a huge improvement over the original 1/48 Actic gear Scopedog. Basically Takara went through the original AG Scopedog with a fine toothcomb and improved everything that could be improved. The pilot, pilot seat and control stick are all painted. The muzzles of all the guns are all recessed and painted, even the shoulder-mounted smoke launchers. A lot of the small vents are now also painted, like those on the sides of the lower leg and the turn-picks. Even the cartridge ejection ports on the forearms for the arm punch mechanisms are now painted. Articulation has also been improved some, especially the elbows and shoulders. Thankfully all those ugly visible hollows like on the biceps are no more. The level of detail has also been improved, with more and better molded on detail on many parts. moving wheels! I love that you can remove the front chest armor and the front chest hatch now opens. Actually, you can pretty much completely disassemble the toy, so if you were so inclined, you could make a great hanger or workshop diorama. The way many of the small parts attach has also been improved, so you don't get so many small fiddly bits falling off. Takara really came up with a clever, but simple way of attaching the elbow armor Takara have deepened the slots for the waist weapons attachment, so that both the waist Gattling gun and waist missile pod now attach firmly without need of any glue. If you are a Votoms fan, this is a must-have toy. Buy it, you won't regret it. Besides being the only Buglarydog toy ever made, it's a fantastic toy in it's own right. It's also great that it comes with parts to convert it to a plain-jane Scopedog. A few pages back in this thread, someone compared the AG line to Bandai's HCM-pro. Well, IMO, the original AG toys are not quite on par with the HCM-pro both design-wise and quality-wise. However, the Buglarydog, is a huge improvement and IMO equals or even surpasses the best HCM-pro. Graham
  22. They are posed really badly in that pic. After seeing the CM's sculpt up close at WonderFest, the Toynami/Aoshima just looks too blocky and chuncky to me now. Graham
  23. Most definitely Toynami/Aoshima display, NOT CM's. Graham
  24. Just picked up the Takara-Tomy 1/48 ATM-09-DD Buglary Dog toy for HK$328 (US$42). Looks great, but unfortunately I won't have time to take it out of the box and mess around with it until tomorrow. Graham
  25. No, they are the bolts for attaching the armor to the inner frame. Graham
