Yeah, the old Bandai 1/65 toys are still my favorite versions of the VF-17D & VF-17S and in fact one of my all-time favorite Macross toys. A few relatively simple improvements to the 1/65 would make them so much better. I'd like to see the 1/65 VF-17 redesigned with the following changes: Improved hand sculpt, perhaps with different swapable fixed pose hands. Improved gunpod sculpt. Modify the knee joints so that the knees bend both forward and back (a modification that many owners do themselves anyway). Improved front and rear landing gears and landing gear doors, to make them more lineart accurate. Add ratcheted ball joints to the hips to allow the toy to do an A stance. Perhaps add an opening canopy and pilot figure.

The could have just recolored the Speaker Pod from the HMR VF-19 Kai if they had wanted to include it with the VF-19P Personally, I'm happy they instead gave us a GU-15 gunpod with the HMR VF-19P. Which also means the next VF-19 HMR variation to be released will likely be a VF-19S or VF-19F.

As the Zolan Galactic Whale Patrol Unit are shown using less-lethal, shock rounds from their VF-5000G's gunpods, I always asumed the white Speaker Pod Launcher shown in the VF-19P lineart was also a less-lethal projectile launcher.

This is not a VF-17S. It is a VF-171 doing a piss poor cosplay as a VF-17S. Legs are completely the wrong shape, details, thickness and panel lines. backplate is completely wrong shape, details and panel lines. Shoulder details are wrong (lacking twin micro missile ports). External gun pod mounting is incorrect. Overall too skinny/gangly, especially in battroid and Gerwalk modes. Headsculpt has issues (incorrect extended cowl on the top back of the head). Crotch piece angle incorrect in battroid mode.
-
Correct, it comes with two sets of sholders with fins in both positions.

Back in the day with Yamato it was a different story. At least as told to me by Yamato, they had to send Kawamori new toy sculpts and test shots for his approval and feedback and if revisions were requested by him, they then had to send him the revised test shot after the changes had been made for his final approval. Often he would request several changes be made before release of the toy. I'm guessing that for whatever reason, it's a different story with Bandai and he has no creative input.

I mean the VF-19P uses traditional style micro missile ports in the lower legs to launch it's micro missiles, rather than the opening bay door that the VF-19Kai/F/S use. So technically it's correct for the leg doors not to open on the VF-19P HMR. I was actually quite impressed that Bandai got this detail correct on the VF-19P HMR.

I wonder if a lot of Japanese Macross fans are complaining about the DX VF-17S design?

Yet to actually take the Moshow out of the box and play with it.😅 But, so far I'd say the Sentinel.

My current Mospeada collection. The oldest thing in the collection is the Mospeada art book on the right of the book pic. The toys are are all recent-ish purchases during the last 3 months, to get some modern Mospeada toys back in my collection.😅 Over the decades , I've owned the old Gakken Legioss and ride armour toys, the Beagle, some Aoshimas and CMs, but they are all long gone, either traded away, given away or thrown away in the case of the Aoshimas.

I don't mind if the DX VF-17S lacks the gunpod internal storage/ejection gimmick. I just want the toy to: Be slightly beefier in Battroid mode, especially the lower legs. Have all the correct panel lines according to the VF-17 lineart. At the moment, the legs, backplate and shoulders are completely wrong detailwise. Resculpt the head to get of that raised cowling at the top of the head. Get rid of the hardpoints on the wings. Adjust the crotch peice in batroid mode so that it points down instead of being angled forward.

Now, back to our regular Hasegawa content. 😅

This looks awesome, even unpainted. I have zero painting skills so I might actually pick this up as it looks so good.

Don't have high hopes for this, but will probably still go to see it.

Looked into Tubi, as hadn't heard of it. Unfortunately it's not available in my country. Will try later using a VPN.

Yeah, I'm interested to watch it. I watched a couple of episodes back when it first came out but never finshed it. I didn't even know there were English novels. Will have to check if they are available fior KIndle.

Finally, can understand the issue. Thank you. Still not gonna check and swap mine though, even if they have the problem.

In my headcanon, I will treat this as a very early development test version of the VF-171 that still used some VF-17 parts, before the VF-171 design had been completely finalised. And it had been assigned to Diamond Force for flight testing. 😅
-
My VF-27 Revival will likely stay permanently in Fighter mode, so no plans to check the shoulders on mine.😅

Is Yukikaze on any streaming service?

At a bare minimum I hope Bandai may consider the folloing changes before releasing the 1/60 DX VF-17S, to make it slightly more acceptable: Shoulder armour resculpted to add the VF-17's characteristic twin micro missile launchers, which were priminantly featured in the anime Complete leg resulpt to get rid of the VF-171's leg micro missile launchers, add the VF-17's gunpod port, make the legs slightly more chonky and add correct panel lines. Make the crotch piece in Battroid mode angle straight down instead of forward. Beef up the arms as much as possible. Remove the hard points from the wings (VF-17 never used external hard points). The above is probably just wishful thinking and may not even be possible. To be honest, being a huge VF-17 fan I'd prefer a clean sheet of paper design, rather than them basing it on the VF-171 toy, but I'm enough of a realist to know that is not likely to happen, given the VF-17 is not a fan favourite design. Hopefully one day we get a better VF-17 sculpt in from either the HMR line or the HG Shortcut Change model kit line.
