Totally doing my own format here, because that's how I roll. Favorite film of 2015: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - I love this film and this franchise too much to be able to objectively rank it among the best of 2015, so it gets its own category. Top 5 Films of 2015*: 1. Mad Max: Fury Road 2. The Martian 3. Ex Machina 4. Sicario 5. Spotlight *The Revenant and Carol are in limited release and nowhere near me right now, so this list may change once I see them both. Most Surprising Film of 2015: Creed - I really, really wanted this film in my top 5. Like The Force Awakens, it's not perfect, but it's so wonderful and expertly directed. Most Disappointing Film of 2015: The Hateful Eight - It's gorgeously shot, but that's about all it has going for it. It has serious narrative problems that lead to some very poor directorial decisions. Worst Film of 2015: American Ultra - Saving the worst for last. I bailed on this film barely a half hour into it. I'm sure there were worse movies out there, but this was as low as I could stomach seeing.

Yes, and they don't have many. They also don't have any capital ships.

Had someone bring this up today, and I wanted to address it here: they aren't searching for a map to Luke Skywalker; they're searching for a map to the first Jedi Temple, where Luke is said to have gone. I've seen discussion about this elsewhere online over the past week, and it just boggles my mind that people think Luke left a map to himself. This isn't out of the book, they say it right in the movie. The first temple.

I see what you're saying. Well, keep in mind we're talking Star Wars here. It's fantasy through and through.

Something else to keep in mind: Rey is 11 years younger than Kylo Ren

Interesting tidbit from Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo: for a very long while the title of The Force Awakens was Shadow of the Empire.

I'm not 100% sure what it is you're questioning here, but we do know from additional sources (*sigh*) that while Finn excelled in his combat simulations, he was reprimanded for showing concern for the lives of others (specifically his fellow cadets). He's a protector, not a killer. He was stuck in sanitation for a reason.

I think we need to forget the Sith Order when it comes to Snoke, Kylo, and the Knights of Ren. They didn't have a monopoly on the Dark Side of the Force, they were simply the most successful to wield it. And they are gone.

I'm not sold on this one, and not just because JJ and company have denied it. Plagueis was a Muun, and while Snoke is tall and thin, he doesn't have the head of a Muun. Of course, Plagueis being a Muun is now old EU, so who knows?

The current rumor is we'll see a younger version of his character in Rogue One.

Did we discuss Ewan McGregor and Frank Oz recording dialog for Rey's vision?

He doesn't actually hate everyone. That's why he is so conflicted. He seeks the power the Dark Side gives him, but the cost is tearing him apart.

That's fine, it's still worse than Django. It's worse than all of his films.

It's gorgeously(!) shot, but The Hateful Eight completely falls apart halfway through its nearly 3-hour running time. It is there the narrative structure fails, and Tarantino is forced to rely upon a lengthy, poorly acted flashback, and an out-of-place narration, to attempt to put it back together. He never does. This is his worst film. I wouldn't watch it again.

Because they'd be dead if they fought like that. It's all flourishes and twirls and needless maneuvers. It's style over substance. The duel in Sith is the most anticlimactic confrontation in the Star Wars saga. It's horribly silly, and not once does it look like they're actually fighting against each other. There's no danger.

Outside of the Maul fight in TPM, the prequel fights were overly choreographed and rather ridiculous. Basically two people twirling swords with no sense of threat or danger. The Awakens duel is fierce.

Yeah, we'll have to agree to strongly disagree on your spoiler tagged bit. Driver has been universally lauded for his performance, and it's a brilliant start for the character. Easily the best and most dynamic villain we've seen on film this year.

What Lucas wanted to see was shite. And I haven't seen anything that says Snoke is bigger and badder.
