Yeah, same reason why they translate "Top o Nerae!" as "Gunbuster" in the opening credits of the original OVA. I was rather surprised how much time people spent complaining about the BGM in the first episode, and not the shoddy translation of the entire set.

I really am tired of what Gainax is doing right now, but I have to admit, it is rather amusing to watch.

Neither was He-Man, along with 95% of the other junk we used to watch. The other 5% came from Japan, which is why we are all here. It is what it is, no?

That's pretty much it. I know this is probably a poor example, because of the audience involved, but take a look at Gunbuster compared to Gunbuster 2. We had many a discussion along similar lines in that thread, and what it really came down to was the era each series represented. Its not 1988, anymore, ya know? Yeah, who wouldn't like to see a well done, modern production of Thundercats with mature themes? Just not the reality of thing. Personally, I'd say we are lucky the Sword of Omens didn't turn into a guitar (does the Thundertank has speaker pods?).

Oh, I totally agree. Let's be honest here, a majority of the cartoons in the 80's were half hour long toy commercials. We got lucky if we got one with an ongoing storyline. Its probably what drew so many people to Robotech.

I dunno if anybody caught it, but there is a post season ender podcast up. Good listen, some good info to know as well (Adama and the President are not Cylons, for instance).

Huh? Look, if you have something to say to me, say it in a PM, don't clutter up the boards with this sorta nonsense. The "they raped my childhood" argument got old when the Special Editions hit, and at this point its just a little sad. These cartoons are aimed at kids, marketed to kids, and shown predominantly in the mid afternoon, when the kids are home from school. Shows like The Transformers are the exception, not the norm. Looking back 20 some years later, I realize the thing I like the most about the Thundercats is the opening credits. The rest of it just doesn't hold up. Someone mentioned season 1 of the Transformers earlier, and my God, does it look horrible. Its shocking, its nothing like that I remember.

The Cylons WERE machines, and they "evolved" into bio-engineered beings. As far as who the humans are and what waits for them on Earth, we can't really say for sure, but it is looking something like that. There is something very Xenogears-ish about it, with a bit of Blade Runner thrown in. I haven't seen Gall Force in probably 17 years, but if I recall correctly, that may be about right. I get the feeling thousands of years down the line, the Cylons will have lost all sense of themselves as anything but human, and to them, in their stories and history, Galactica will be the 13th tribe heading off into space.

The original TMNT series is a joke when compared to say, the comic book, which was violent and vulgar. My TMNT killed people hard core, and all wore red.

What you are saying is, you wanted the original series. Fair enough, we're long past that point though.

Now that is something totally different. That was Lucas pandering to the fans. It starts with the Fett family in Clones and went all over the place from there. What is going on in BSG is much different. Its clear you are totally missing what is going on with the series. You keep bringing up probability and chance, and neither of them have anything to do with what is happening. They are all part of a finely orchestrated play, and they just don't know it yet.

I didn't see that in Star Wars (if anything I feel that Lucas tried to incorporate too many locales and too many characters in the prequels, as opposed to what we saw in the OT). And with what we've been given with BSG, and what we can make educated guesses about, you've still lost me. It would be like putting a DVD in of Fight Club, watching it more than once, and expecting "Jack" to not be Tyler Durden in further viewings. BSG is pre-determined, pre-destined; it has happened before and will happen again.

I guess you could call it that if The Matrix was based on completely new and unique concepts. Its just a rehash of stories we've seen done over dozens of times, while directly ripping off a few others. In my opinion, at the core of BSG is the question of "what is humanity", which is, in contemporary sci-fi terms, more directly related to Blade Runner, which Moore cites as an influence in the series.
