  1. Its a piece of plastic junk, just like the unicorn that comes with.
  2. At like 1 or 2 AM sometime this coming week, I think.
  3. Something I should point out, the 5th disc with the Workprint on it also has the restoration documentary on it. I had missed that my first time through the set. If you are interested in such things, then I'd go for the 5 disc. They do take a subtle shot as Lucas in it, without naming him or Star Wars, but you clearly get their meaning. They were there to restore and preserve, not recreate.
  4. Ok, I'm clearly not a newbie to Macross, but I've always wondered... if there is a Space War I, shouldn't that mean that somewhere, sometime, there was a Space War II?
  5. I got the special set just to have it. I honestly would have been totally satisfied with Final Cut and Dangerous Days. Original theatrical is nice to have, too.
  6. I think you are looking too much into my statement, with the "plural". We only know of one in Frontier, yes. And until we hear something else, I think its pretty safe to assume SMS is a private paramilitary force akin to say, Blackwater. The question is why are they there, and what role will they play in this story? I'd like to see something more complex than just, "In tonight's episode, the role of UN Spacy is being played by SMS...."
  7. There are some alternate/extended shots, but the only thing that really stands out are the two dancers in hockey masks, and they made the Final Cut.
  8. I don't look at a group like SMS and think Blackwater. Like, oh, these guys must be trouble! But do I think there is potential there for conflict with UNS regulars? Yes. Or, they may not be used as that kind of story device at all, they may indeed just be filling the same role the UNS did in previous stories. Their presence may just be a sign of the times. I just think the story will be less interesting if some sort of tension or dispute doesn't develop over their independent, private status.
  9. Oh wow, I guess we have spoilers on a movie that is 25 years old... Hey, guess what, Darth Vader is Luke's father! w00t! The Workprint is nice, some of the cuts aren't great and there is temp music towards the end (Workprint, DUH!), but it doesn't have the "vision" and it sticks with the intended ending. I'm sure some of you have seen this in bootleg before (I had only ever read about it), and while the picture isn't always great and the sound suffers from time to time, its worth watching. The commentary track is, well, meh. I won't be listening to it again, I got out of it whatever there was to have. I'm onto the writers'/producers' commentary track now. Better than Ridley's, but unfortunately they were not all in the same room together when this one done. Its a writers' track mixed with a producers' track, so you really miss out on half the commentary from each.
  10. Ridley spends half the time on his commentary track fellating himself, the other half of the time he's talking about other movies. Certainly his worst track on any of his DVDs.
  11. Final Cut is gorgeous, the fixes aren't noticible except for the fact that certain things don't look bad anymore. Its more seamless. I still don't like the Unicorn vision and the glowy eyes on Deckard. The story doesn't work if he's a Replicant, I don't care what Ridley Scott says. Harrison Ford maintains Deckards humanity. Dangerous Days is fantastic, and clocks in at nearly 4 hours. The good, the bad, and the ugly, its all there. Honestly, they could have made it twice its length, and it probably would have been worth it. Better than Hearts of Darkness? You decide. Deleted scenes are... interesting. A TON of new voiceover that cuts out large segments of dialog. It really seemed like there was a version of BR that might have been put out, with these voice overs, that clocked in at 90 minutes. You'll see when you watch these deleted scenes. Workprint is up next, then the commentaries.
  12. With private contractors involved, anything is possible. Wouldn't shock me. We know we have colony disputes at this point in time.
  13. Found this amusing. In the new Blade Runner DVD set, in one of the featurettes, Edward James Olmos is talking about whether Deckard is a "Cylon" or not, chuckles, then corrects himself (he meant Replicant).
  14. This will most likely improve sales, instead of hurt them. I don't quite approve of translating "Who the hell do you think I am?!" and "The Gurren Brigade" as "Who do you think I am?!" and "Team Gurren". They may as well edit out Kamina while they are at it...
  15. Ok, mine is here, going to watch now.
  16. Guest director, I see!
  17. Uh, Tyrel isn't Japanese...
  18. This probably has more to do with the copy you were watching and what you were watching it on.
  19. Its like A1 not liking Gurren Lagann... for the life of me I don't get it, and I just have to accept there are some things in life I'll never understand. All I can hope for is that someday this film will click for you.
  20. So I've decided to rewatch Gurren Lagann, and along comes episode 4 and well, did we ever find out just WTF was going on with the animation and art there? I remember the mess that happened because of it, but was it ever explained why they just, well... make it look like crap?
  21. Maybe the most respected science fiction movie ever made. Most of the anime we all watch was heavily influenced by it.
  22. I was specifically talking about in fighter mode. Was wondering if Graham or anyone else had seen anything with the VF-25's wings swept back in what I guess would be normal atmospheric conditions.
  23. The Holy Grail of DVD released, for sure. Alot of people have been waiting for this for a very long time.
  24. No idea what you are talking about, Graham, but what about the swing wing on the VF-25? Any idea?
