I don't think so, if you look at the design. I don't think they'd call the city section "Battle 25". I would think the "Frontier" is the name of the entire thing, while its designation is the "Macross 25". For example, "Macross 25, Frontier" and "Macross 21, Galaxy".

His name seems to officially be "Mikhail", and that is how Alto refers to him.

Macross 7 was never released here, so who is to say how well it would do in relationship to Macross Plus.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing it. Deculture came in 6th when shown in December. Broadcast came in 2nd when shown in April. One can assume that positive reviews and word of mouth about the Deculture cut lead to the increased ratings of the broadcast cut. Unless someone does an extensive survey, there is no way to really prove this, but one can make a safe assumption. Once again, if ratings go down for episode 2, it will say something (though, I am wondering if they count DVR recordings in the ratings, they don't in the US). Your Macross Plus/7 to Western/Eastern tastes analogy is totally out of left field. Macross 7 hasn't seen release here, how can we really know how it would do in NA? Hell, Kawamori himself stated in an interview he had NA in mind when developing the series. I'm not a fan of Mac 7 myself, but what the heck do I know? It may be huge here. Whatever the case, it doesn't really matter. Its Macross, I'm pretty sure if it gets mediocre ratings, they'll run the entire series.

Your reasoning FTL. What does Macross Plus and Macross 7 have to do with the Deculture cut and the broadcast cut? And yes, you should concede, as the broadcast's strong showing could indicate that the Deculture cut left a good taste in viewers and reviews mouths, causing even more to tune in for episode 1. You can't ""un-watch" a show after having watched it. People can't say, oh hey, I didn't like Deculture cut, so count me as not having watched it. Hell, every single person who watched the broadcast cut may have hated it, we won't really know until we see the numbers on episode 2.

I have that on VHS, copy of the laserdisc. Now if I only had a VCR...

I hated it, I had to download each release every week just to see which was was the least mangled.

You know, I wonder if this isn't a case of early work done on the show for the Deculture edition that was never fixed. Voice actors not getting a name right consistently. Its like everyone in Star Wars never saying "Han" the same way. What bugs me (and its a silly thing) is that they re-recorded the song for the concert scene (to either fit the changed scene/running time, or to give it more of a "live" feel), and they removed the fx. The "crop turns into a mic" sound is totally missing. And, in the end, the quality of the new vocals doesn't match that of the second song she sings at the concert before the sirens go off.

Egan Loo lists him as "Mikhail Buran". I think we have a case where his name is being said differently by different characters. But whether it is Mikhail or Michel, they are referring to the same character in the first episode.

I know enough that "hayaku" doesn't mean "just do it". Fact is, for a native english speaker (which I am), transcribing a song in english by ear is hard enough to do in many cases. Otherwise, we wouldn't have such famous mistakes as "excuse me while I kiss this guy". Finding the lyrics for Don't Be Late as of April 2008 isn't anywhere near as difficult as it was last December. I for one was expecting a fresh translation of the song in this release, and was disappointed not to get it. That said, none of this is anywhere near as bad os the crap I had to deal with when it came to the Gurren Lagann releases, including a few groups that felt the need to liberally sprinkle f-bombs throughout the show.

Also, the release refers to Michel as both Mikhail and Michelle, and that's going to confuse a whole heck of alot of people.
