Aliens: Colonial Marines morphs into Isolation

When these side-stories were first announced, I think the general assumption was that Disney would do like they had with their Marvel properties; that is, they would tie into the larger sequel trilogy in some way. Even though Solo, Fett, and Yoda are only rumors at this point, it's probably safe to say they are out there because they've been discussed internally. Even if they were just kicking the tires on those story ideas, the Marvel model might not be what we are getting here.

Except they've already announced Lawrenxe Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are writing them. Not to be an ass, but is anyone actually bothering to read any of the news coming out? There is so much conjecture and fan fiction in this thread right now it's practically off topic.

"the date could be changed if the development process requires it." 2015 still looks fairly reasonable if they aren't sticking to the usual May release. If they want a May release, I would say 2016 is more likely.

Cameron would be a disaster. This isn't the early 90's anymore.

SW7 is the only thing he is slated to direct after ST2 comes out.

He's not writing it. Or plotting it, for that matter. He may not even be involved past Episode VII. This isn't mine, but it amused me (and I quote this with great affection for the choice of director): "These lens flares are too accurate for Sand People; only J.J. Abrams is so precise." Thank the maker!

Haters gonna hate. Everyone is running this story, and we still have yet to get a confirmation on it. Right now all of the players are declining to comment. It's... strange.

You mean Miramax? LOL, yes they have. Seriously, can you people not handle simple Internet searches? Besides, when has a Star Wars movie even been rated higher than PG13? WTF are you people looking for? Again, I can't believe we're still having this conversation...

Made by Sony Pictures. I can't believe we're still having this conversation...

"Zack Snyder has come out DENYING any involvement in this. His press person told HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.”

Zack Snyder Is Developing a Star Wars Film Outside the New Trilogy Back in November, the Los Angeles Times reported that Man of Steel and 300 director Zack Snyder said he had no interest in directing the hotly anticipated seventh Star Wars film. But Vulture has learned that while this may be specifically true — he won’t be doing Episode VII — it was a bit of misdirection: He is in fact developing a Star Wars project for Lucasfilm that is set within the series’ galaxy, though parallel to the next trilogy. It will be an as-yet-untitled Jedi epic loosely based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai, with the ronin and katana being replaced by the Force-wielding knights and their iconic lightsabers.

Not in the slightest, other than the name. You'll enjoy this movie a lot more if you drop all expectations you have for it being remotely close to any if those influences.

This isn't a spaghetti western. It's not even a western. And Leone had nothing to do with the original Django.

Django Unchained is a good movie, an entertaining movie, and a movie worth the admission fee. That said, it's not a great movie. Tarantino has fallen back into some of the bad habits he had seemingly cast off with Inglourious Basterds (which makes that film seem more like a lucky fluke); this is compounded by the movie being a little bit all over the place and its problems with pacing. Some of the comedy and music cues are completely tone-def, and are glaringly out of place within the film. Tarantino similarly flops with some of the cameos he has chosen, and they take the viewer completely out of the movie (Jonah Hill and Taratino himself are by far the worst offenders). In many ways Django Unchained makes Tarantino look like a one-trick pony, and it pales in compairson to Inglourious Basterds. Some reviewers have called this movie his "spaghetti western," which I assume is an opinion held simply because of the inspiration for this film. Django Unchained is most certainly not his spaghetti western--or even a western for that matter; it's just another Tarantino film.

Right, because that would gain them a ton of respect within the industry and with other companies looking to license their properties,

It's a continuation. Not sure where it fits in the timeline, but everything I've read says its not a reboot. Look at his right shoulder (not your right).

I saw it in 2D, because I heard the picture in the non-48 FPS 3D was overly dark. There were steps. What, you didn't think the same thing?

Every bit that Peter Jackson added to connect it to the LotR trilogy was so grossly out of place it was distracting. The Hobbit is not a prequel, and he shouldn't have treated it as such. I am not asking him to ignore the connection, I am asking him to not beat us over the head with it. Cutting out those unecessary scenes could have saved a half hour of running time. That said, I believe this is the second best of the four existing Tolkien movies Jackson has made. I really enjoyed it, and may come to like it more than The Two Towers over time. My friend who I saw it with felt that she was totally game to watch even more of the story; I completely agree with her--running time was not an issue. Thumbs up from the skepitc.
