One of Vanessa. By the way, I shrunk these to half there size so they wouldn't be so huge. No quality loss. If anything, Quality was gained. -

Fanracer animation at end of SDF Macross Special

Just popped the DVD in to see if the opening really was different, and you guys were right. But it did show the transformation sequence of the Valerie. Were you talking about not showing the transformation of the Macross? For the special (which is the worst looking of all the episodes on this set, which is just an LD rip. It still looks nice, but the others look better compared ot this one), it shows the whole hitting Earth deal, then it shows the special opening. Here are the changes I noticed: -After the Valkeries transform into GERWALK mode, it cuts to the bridge bunnies doing something. It's just some clips from the show. Sammie stands up covering her mouth, Vanessa typing then talking, Misa and Claudia looing at each other. Then it cuts to the side view of the GERWALK on the ground, transforms, rolls, etc as normal. This happens at about 3:15 (from the start of the episode). Kind of wierd to cut that out. -After that part, which is the part on the song where the dude says "will you love me tomorrow?," it show's a different clip of Hikaru in the characters montage. Usually, it's him in his pilot suit, but instead it's him in his orange jump suit thing from his fan racer. THis happens round 3:28. -Macross is shown lifting off as usual, then it fires it's cannon. Then, when it's supposed to show Hikaru's valkerie spinning and unloading it's rifle, it shows show the orange Valkerie from the first episode flying off intot he distance in space. Happens around 3:47. -Ends with a big still picture of the Macross in space (still in normal mode) above the Earth. Let me take some screen captures to show the different parts -

What is the most memorable scene for you?
Vinny replied to PC Valkyrie's topic in Movies and TV Series
I just saw Kakazaki's death again. Man, that sucked losing two of my favorite characters in a row. That was pretty neat how they threw in Max doing the sign of the cross. The whole lead up to Roy's death was wierd too. First time I ever saw it, you see Roy take some shorts and it plays that dramatic music and then everything is fine. It leaves you wondering what happened. Is he hurt, is he really OK, or what? Then you see the tech guys surprised at the inside of his cockpit and know somethings up, but then you see him playing the guitar at Claudia's, everything seeming fine. When he stopped playing the guitar, first time I saw the show, I thought he just went to sleep Like he was a little bit hurt from the battle and just passed out. But then when I saw him fall, my heart dropped with him You knew it was over for Kakazaki only a few moments before. When him, Max, and Hikaru all on the ship, you notice one of them is lagging behind. You just knew who it was. Wannabe ace pilot Kakazaki. Then it cuts away and you think everything is going to be fine, and then Hikaru's screaming for him to catch up, and he can't. Must've been terrible for Hikaru. Nothing he could've done. Then Max does the sign of the cross. All so sad I started to dislike Minmei at this episode, too. With her calling Hikaru after all that. Sure, she didn't know, but I'd think (or rather hope) she heard about the whole filed thing exploding. She didn't even open up with a "Hikaru, are you okay? (BUSTA WOLVE!!!!!!!)" just went on and on about how she was. I don't hate Minmei like some people here do (though I sympathize with you guys), it's just that her and Hikaru are in two different worlds. Hikaru has a job where he could die tomorrow. Minmei is just a celebrity. It really makes you think though, who are the true heroes out there. People worship celebrities like actors and actresses, or muscians, but who we really should care most about and look up to are those out there putting there lives on the line everyday. Soldiers, police officers (I'm majoring in criminal justice, so I sympathize with cops the most), etc. -
I quit supporting ADV after the Lost Universe problem. Overlays and such, I can understand. I hate them, but I can understand using them. But using them to edit a show? No way. By the way, a recently released rip of the Renewal of Evangelion set just came out. Consider ADV's set raped. Comes with all 26 plus the directors cut episodes of the original series, with remastered everything. That's all I care about on it, but I beleive it was comes with the movies, too, and whatever extras were in the boxset. Spanned across 5 discs, I beleive fansub scripts were used. Is the AV set of Megazone 23 a rip of the Indian Video set or all original? AV does some awesome jobs concerning original subtitles. I have all of Cyborg 009 which they subbd themselves and the subs were near perfect. There released of Getter Robo (original TV series) was awesome, too. They even reelased Zambot 3, recently, too. They do so many super robot shows It's pretty much a given that they re going to rip Getter Robo G when the DVDs come out in Japan And are you guys saying that the HK Mospeada set is not a gatefold, but seperate cases? I hate when AV does that! They stand out from the other gatefolds because there so huge! I'm thinking of picking up the Mospeada set with what money I have left from a recent HK DVD binge.

So no guns? -
Also, does ADV's set come with the movie? I know the HK set comes with the movie, but I didn't hear if ADV's did.

Two questions on macross TV this time. I noticed when Britai got thrown out into space, he was out there for a while before he climbed in. Is he the only Zentraldi that can survive in space, or can the others? Also, do tehy use money in Macross City? As in to buy food and such?

Fanracer animation at end of SDF Macross Special

That special combination of episodes 1 and 2 is on my HK set. I don't even think that episode had an opening, but I could check. It also had a different eyecatch, one that said Macross Special. The endings nothing much. Fanracer flying against a sunset rocking back and forth. At least it was animation. The one with the guy flipping pages is wierd. -

Well, he's never actually been revived, per say. Everytime he dies it's just another universe, i guess you could say. Shin was different then all the other Getter Robo worlds, Getter Robo G vs Great Mazinger was, too. Shin vs Neo was just another interpretation of his original Death. Musashi did return later In Getter Robo, though as a clone in the future, as a pilot of Getter Emperor, which each Getter Machine is the size of a planet Yeah, that's Shin Getter buy him. He was at the end of Shin Getter LDotP, but they weren't combined. Oh, and I've always called the dude Britai. I saw Getter Robo G before Macross, so for me, it was the other way around . Though I never confused Hidler's name. How did they even get by with Hidler in America? Anyways, presumably, you could say Hayato got Michiru in G. In the end, when he sort of pulls a Musashi, but lives (BASTARD!!!!!!), he gives Michiru his cross. Are they hooked up? No. As Michiru will never be able to have another man after the greatest man in the world, Musashi And Hayato respects the memory of his friend to not try and go out with Michiru. Besides, Hayato always wanted to get in his sister, Asuka's, panties.

I was up to Global's Report while I was rewatching Macross before things came up so I had to stop. But, I always thought it was cool how after Hikaru, Misa, Max, and Kakazaki were in the Zentraeldi ship, and there's an announcment or something that they are attempting to escape, and you just see Britai haul ass down the hall. I really hate the guy, but come on, that was pretty cool watching him bolt down the hall then just jump over the railing and kick some ass -
Which part(s) of Megazone made the Robotech Movie?
Vinny replied to Vinny's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
They used stuff from each episode? How? Part I and II follow Shiyo and both parts of Part III focus on an entirely different character. Did they just mix everyone all up? -
I just picked up a set of Megazone 23. I was a bit confused after the first part, so went to try and find some sites that could maybe help clear it up. I stumbled upon something saying parts of Megazone were edited into a Robotech movie. I checked the Robotech FAQ dealy at the top of this forum, and while it did confirm about Megazone being turned into the Robotech Movie, it didn't say which parts. So, I'm asking now Which parts of Megazone were edited into the Robotech movie?

I'll let you guys get back to arguing, but if anyone should boycott Do You Remember Love? it should of been Kakazaki's family for the mistreatment of his character!!!!!! That is, if his family survived the whole planet destruction ordeal

Looks like you painted your're in a Cobalt Blue, while the ones in the screen caps look like a darker navy blue. Nice job on airbrushing it though
-
I mean I think it was just the exaust pushing him back. None of the... flames, I guess they are, hit him. The air being pushed by the thrust blew the guy away, I guess is another way of putting it. It's just a gust from it, combined with the force the Valk's impact made, pushed him back.
-
Ah so it did have to do with the missles, but it was about them being nukes. Thanks for clearing that up And also thanks for pointing out nukes are called reactor missles in the Macross world. I was reading the Macross history over at Macross Compendium and they kept saying reactor weapons and it confused me I'll use this thread if I get confused anymore through out the show. I just finished the episode where Hikaru and Minmei are trapped in the engine room or whatever place it is. I love Hikaru's space suit. "I'll just reinforce my flight suit to be usable in space by tightly wrapping cloth around it!!"

The second Mazinkaiser OVA is so much better then the first. Even though it's a single 50 minute episodes, it brought back the seriousness at least. And the violence. Holy **** did they bring back the violence. Even though it basically destroyed Great Mazinger's story, it still was enjoyable.

I think I missed something in the first episode. When the Zentraldi arrive and battle the two spaceships (ARMS 1 and 2, were they?), the head honch Zentraldi guy (I suck with names, but I'll learn them again) says something about how they are fighting in the old style. What does he mean? At first I thought it was because the ARMS ships were shooting missles, but then I saw them shoot missles, too. Then I thought it was because the ships dodged the Zentraldi beams, as that was the point I think the Zentraldi guy said it. Could anyone clear this up for me? I remember (I'm watching the series again) that the Zentraldi do things differently then humans (like don't repair stuff), but I can't figure out what he was referring to with the above.
-
I just watched that part last night (I decided to rewatch Macross) and it looks like that guy just gets blown away, as in the thrust from the engines push him back. I think he lives

Oh, and Musashi's deaths: Original series: dies by crashing Bear with a bomb attached to it into the biggest Mechosaur evers mouth. Saves the world, protects his friend. Getter Robo G vs Great Mazinger: Is destroyed along with the aliens that attack Earth. Saves the world, protects his friends. Shin Getter: Is crushed by the Invadered Goer/Britai's fist dealy. I always thought he knew he was dead. When he looks down and sees he can't move because of the Invaders, it's like he doesn't care. So, yeah, doesn't save the world, but protects his friends. Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo: A much better death then the original series. Rips Getter core out and crushes it, killing alot of stuff in the process. Saves world, protects his friends. Musashi was always my favorite Getter pilot Not only did he get the girl (Michiru), but he's the strongest Getter pilot.

Well, if you hated Shin Getter in this OVA, don't pick up the Getter Robo Go manga. Shin shows up towards the end. The evolution story still sticks in it's own way. Shin is sent by God to spread the seeds of evolution. In the manga, he opens black holes to suck in nuclear missles hot at him, and can turn enemies into Getter energy for it to absorb. So that evolution thing isn't new in Shin, nor is it straying from the manga. It kind of was a mix between Shin from the Last Day of the Planet OVA, and Shin from the newer Shin vs Neo OVA. If anything strayed for the manga, it's the original TV series. You have to keep in mind that Go Nagai didn't really give a damn about the TV series of his works. It was just more money for him. He let the networks do what ever the Hell they wanted with his shows. He just provided the source material. They had to turn Getter Robo, a comic aimed at older teens, into a show kids could watch after school. Same with all his other stuff (Gaiking, Mazinger, etc.). Hell, Devilman barely has any similarities with the manga. Go Nagai just let them butcher it. Kind of ironic how people today say Cartoon Network butchers such great animes. Well, Japan was doing it to in a way. And Shin isn't really for Go Nagai fans. While Go did write the original Getter Robo story arc, with the Dinosaur Empire and such, from G and up, it was pretty much all Ken Ishikawa's work. Go went on to write more hentai or something Getter Robo was one of Go's first works, and if I recall, it was his first ever super robot story he ever wrote. Though that still wasn't Shin's first appearence. Shin first appeared in Super Robot Wars 4, as the Getter's needed a more powerful upgrade. Getter's were starting to lag behind everyone in terms of power. Though he was the insane planet destroyed from the OVA yet. LDotP did indeed have a confusing story. I've watched ADV's subbed version of it, I watched the first episode dubbed before vomiting in horror, I've watched it dubbed in Italian (almost a second language to me), and I've watched it with HK Engrish subs, which for some parts made more sense then the ADV version, and I still don't 100% understand this anime You have to realize that it's a stand alone OVA. Everything that happened before with Getter never happened in this one. There was no such thing as the Dinosaur Empire or 100 Demon Empire. Goer and Britai came out of the test tubes as an homage. crap, this OVA was full of homages. The before mentioned Goer and Britai, Go, Kei, and Gai were based on Go, Sho, and Gai from Getter Robo Go (Shin vs Neo is a retelling of Go's storyline, except minus Dr. Lando and return of the Dinosaur Empire), there pilot suits were based on teh ones from Go, Shwartz robot is the American robot from Go, Schwartz himself is supposed to be or be related to Jack King ( I think he is Jack), the Invaders themselves taken ver robots were like Dr. Lando's robot zombies, etc. etc. Here's one many miss: Monji, Ashtaron, and Joo all made it into the show as different characters. Who are they in Shin? If you keep in mind that everything Getter Robo before Shin came out never happened, you'll get through the OVA well. Just pay attention to the talks on evolution While yes, it did get alot form the manga, no, it's not based on the manga. Many say it's from an unwritten part of the manga or whatever. It's not. Michiru never died in the manga, Genki never turned into a girl, Invaders never exsisted, etc. But, it does have ties with the manga. That's why Getter One has a real cape going on and is packing heat. Getter One was always the star of the manga. Getter Two and Three were just there. Hell, for a good chunk of the original manga, Musashi wasn't even around and Dr. Saotome piloted Bear and never went into Getter Three. When the TV series came out which streesed the importance of teamwork, THEN did everyone start getting air time. Better stop. Starting to make no sense I'm an all around SUper Robot whore, and Go Nagai's works or some of my favorite so I know to much about them ; Anyways, Shin is definetly one of my favorite OVAs, and probably the ebst representation of modern Super Robot anime. And if it matters, I thought Shin vs Neo just sucked I'll take Getter Robo Go anyday.
