  1. Cool deal. I could never understand why they never had more girls on the crew back in the day. Remember the episode in the original series when deserters/mutineers ran off to some random planet and kidnapped Yuki for fun and games? Well they can at least liven up the party with the new talent...
  2. Charger's back from vacation! Well, actually I sprung the car out of body shop limbo like them good 'ol Duke boys would but anyway... Before, with about a dozen rust holes and two decades worth of door dings: Today, perfectly flawed but the love of my life:
  3. I can see Dave's point of view, but then I would say that they didn't do nearly enough to establish the conviction of the Prometheus' crew to prevent those horrors from reaching Earth. They attempted to do so with Shaw and the Captain's scene in her room but that was SO weak. Finally, what the hell kind of ship wanders out into the middle of nowhere with NO weapons of any sort? I realize it's a science vessel but c'mon-we're talking Weyland Corporation here; those mother f'ers think of everything 100 steps in advance...
  4. That IS nice. Guess we'll just have to see these girls in action to see just how great they are. To anyone that's seen the episodes, do any of these girls have any screen time? Asides from Yuki/Nova?
  5. I agree with everything you posted, especially the parts about the white snakes and the 'Xeno at the end. The film leaves you with more questions than answers, and...I get that it's supposed to be like that but I still think it's unsatisfactory. But again let me say this, I liked the movie and will definitely be blu-raying this thing. Now, I'm just as confusing as the movie...
  6. Check out the wave motion guns on the medic...
  7. This probably sums it up best. To my non sci-fi friends I had to try and explain why characters did the thing they did (which is never a good thing). Another example of random creature action that I still can't explain are the white snake-like things that attacked the two scientists and then just disappeared. Finally, I will always think that the 'Xeno appearance at the end was both unnecessary and unfaithful to the "this isn't an Alien prequel" statements that Ridley Scott had said...
  8. Showdown with Pluto and the Reflex gun. Awesome!
  9. Great post Mike, and that finally explains the resolution deal in my opinion. As for blu-ray, I have been known to watch movies on the-go and I just want to be able to use my bloated library that is slowly starting to include just as many blu rays as dvd's. However.....based on what we've talked about a blu ray might be indistinguishable from a dvd, right?
  10. Ah, I see. No blu ray drive for you? Also I don't get the resolution thing-I asked my people why the resolution didn't make a difference but they didn't really give me an answer. I would've thought that games and movies would certainly show a difference. I guess that's why the Qosmio 775's only have 1600x900? And wow-I didn't know the 670 was out and about...
  11. I would've figured that if you were gaming on this laptop that you wouldn't be looking at anything less than a 460 GTX or similar. Also, I'm told that screen resolution above 1600x900 is pointless on a laptop, so is the 1920x1080 a necessary capability? I still haven't bought my laptop either. The Asus G74 series or the Toshiba Qosmio 775 or 505 models are what I've been looking at. My main criteria are a 460 GTX card, i7, blu-ray drive and a 1920x1080 resolution if it's worth having...
  12. I "Like" that. Oh and LOL @ the -5 rating and all of the other hate; c'mon guys it ain't THAT bad...
  13. Mmmmm...Telemundo girls...
  14. I thought of it as a "body hugger" rather than a face hugger; that monster was right out of my hentai collection man...
  15. Despite the Crayola-quality special effects no one can deny how great the first movie is; just saw it a coupla nights ago and remembered just how good it was for its time and now...
  16. What you're going through is more complicated than anything I've ever heard about, but I will say that when I noticed my Dual-Core CPU being utilized at 100% along with two GTS 250's in SLI mode starting to stutter like yours, I took a guess that my CPU wasn't good enough. Despite everyone telling me that my setup should run with no video performance problems and tweaking settings and drivers for weeks I just couldn't get rid of the video lag/stuttering. I got a good deal on a quad core CPU and the first time it booted up all my video problems were gone; CPU utilization wasn't anywhere 100% either. Based on my experience I'd say you're bottlenecked at the CPU...
  17. You know I think that says it best, right there. I also noticed the different designations of the planets and thought of that as further evidence against arguments supporting this movie as a prequel.
  18. Hmmm......well in that case it can be said that's definitive proof that Prometheus ISN'T a prequel, and that the crew merely encountered another space jockey ship dealing with Xenomorphs. What do you guys say? I mean we could just write this off to bad writing and continuity errors-Lord knows Star Wars is overflowing with them but we accept it anyway....
  19. I'd like to Understood, and I have to agree with you on your assessment of the movie. Now, I'm going to play devil's advocate here and look at this from the "non-prequel" or "different ship" point of view.
  20. I don't think it even needs to go that far. I think you cited "Original" vs "New" trilogy in Star Wars while I cited Star Trek as another example as to why things looked newer in the past than in the present: they didn't have the money and the know-how to design all that stuff for the sets in the 70's...
  21. And I agree with you on that premise. If this film had primarily used its own plot devices, story elements and only so vaguely refered to Alien then Prometheus would have succeeded in that respect. A perfect example of this would be in (please forgive my blasphemy) Predator 2, when an interior shot of the ship revealed an Alien skull that was shown for 2 seconds. This way, Predator 2 was just a slight nod or acknowledgement to the Alien universe and the upcoming AvP franchise-there's no guarantees or promises of anything in that fleeting shot. Rather, with Prometheus I see a derivative film that claims to be its own story but in my humble opinion is not so because it takes too much from the movie it isn't supposed to be. And again, let me drive home that the final scene before the credits solidifies Prometheus' ties to the Alien legacy. I just "might" be able to forgive everything else , if it wasn't for that final scene. Nix the final scene and IMO Prometheus would stand stronger on its own. Again, I'm not saying that I didn't like the film; I enjoyed it, recommend anyone that's into sci-fi to go see it, and I'll most certainly be watching it again...
  22. Hmmmm, ok now that's certainly interesting. Well regardless of my less than stunning review I still like the movie and recommend it. My plush dog-alien from Alien 3 went with me last night and liked the movie too...
