  1. Despite four trips to the theater to see the movie I have yet to see it in IMAX/3D; is it worth the trouble?
  2. If they try to follow the eventual breakup of Kirk and Marcus in TOS movies that's going to be one LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG and painful 5 year mission...
  3. No one said he was a hero, what he did was unconscionable, but he clearly wanted the Federation ready for conflict that WILL come. IMO what he did was no different than humans rebuilding and preparing the SDF Macross for combat along with a new generation of fighting mecha to prepare for the possibility of an alien invasion. As for the substance arguement, TOS and the other Star Trek shows had over 40 years to show off their substance and vision; in Abram's defense he's had roughly 5 hours to show us his. These new movies are meant to capture a new crowd of Star Trek fans, who might possibly be convinced to discover the "vision and substance" that classic Trek fans already know. Gotta look at this positively, guys...
  4. Right? But only when there's a major battle to be had. Every other time the Enterprise is in orbit there's PLENTY of other little ships flitting about, space docks, etc...
  5. I think Pierce fit the role of the suave and daring English super-spy better than Craig does, however Craig is a fine Bond in his own right. I think both are leagues beyond Connery's Bond; I don't think I'll ever understand what was so great about his particular Bond...
  6. Agree with that; I used to wear a TNG communicator-pin on my shirts on a daily basis; that stopped right around the time Enterprise came out as I felt the franchise was out of gas. Star Trek has been one lucky franchise, if you take a look at its history or do any background reading on Roddenberry. Then again, as someone else here mentioned, TNG didn't get interesting until Roddenberry lost control of it, more or less. I feel if he were alive today that he would cringe in agony in regards to anything DS9 and beyond and up to Abram's films, but quite frankly, Star Trek needed it. I didn't like the homage/twist/whatever but overall I think they've done a great job...
  7. DOH! Someone was paying attention. Well, maybe because rank and flagships seem to change hands on a daily basis, Starfleet figured to just leave it alone, lol...
  8. Oh wow I hope we didn't ruin it too much for you; go see it before you're totally turned off by the idea of seeing it...
  9. Agreed here as well. I've already seen it three times and will probably see it a fourth and last time in IMAX; I'm sure it's a gorgeous film in that format. In my fondest of dreams though, I would love to have Pine, Quintos and the rest of them on a 5 (or 3) year voyage/t.v. series so I could have the chance to bond with them as I did with Shatner, Stewart and all of their people. Don't know if 5 years of lens flare might ultimately blind me, though...
  10. Agreed. Guess I'll just build me another Galaxy Class model for nostalgia's sake...
  11. Excellent point, and it is my one glaring criticism of the movie; I was in love with it and enjoying it up to that point. I've seen WOK more times than I can remember, but "that scene" is one of the most poignant and moving scenes in my limited memory and opinion of films, and IMO they royally blew it. I would even wager that if I had never seen WOK I would have regarded Into Darkness' handling of "that scene" as sloppy, incohesive, almost laughable, especially when you consider the 'deus ex side of it. Another point is that we haven't had a chance to "grow" and explore those "strange new worlds" with Abram's crew because all we've seen of them is these two movies; nothing they do will match the connection and meaning of TOS and even TNG has with long time fans, as we've been enjoying their stories for YEARS. Again, TOS/Roddenberry die-hards will be grossly disappointed with this movie if they don't check their expectations at the door. This version of Star Trek is more like Star Trek: The Wrath of Glee than it is a proper homage to 'Trek of old but........that's how it was designed to be, and we need to either take it or leave it...
  12. Maybe he's over the whole thing already...
  13. I wouldn't bank on it. If there's one thing Star Trek 2.20 "You Can (Not) Redo" shows me is that NOTHING is sacred to Hollywood, including Abrams. Besides, Disney is out to capture the hearts and minds of all those who have escaped the influence of Star Wars and bring them to the Dark Side. Unfortunately, that type of persuasion may not bode well for SW purists. BTW, I was really looking forward to seeing Alice Eve but was sorely disappointed when I noticed that both of her eyes were always pointing in different directions every time the camera hit her face; it was almost as vomit-inducing as the enemy ships. The rest of her was fusion hot, though...
  14. That's my point as well; the movie had me rooting for it RIGHT up until the last stretch. LOL Funny you mention that, I was expecting a bionic-Rodan to come out as well. I thought that the banter and relationships between the characters was "cute" but forced, and I would think this would be noticed by new, old, and casual fans of Trek alike. It's also difficult for me to appreciate the characters when, for example, Kirk is completely reckless and without conscience unless something grave and disastrous happens, Spock just seems lost, dazed and confused about his entire life whenever he talks to anyone, etc; But again, it's the last part of the movie that really ruins what otherwise would've been an entertaining film...
  15. This film had me extremely entertained, loving every minute of it and missing my Next Generation uniform shirt, up until the last quarter of the film... Again, I love the idea of a "new" Trek for a new generation of fans, and I'm usually the first to go tell TOS die-hards to go sit in a corner and enjoy their VHS copies of the "good 'ol days" as the universe marches onward, but some things should be left well enough alone if you can't revisit them properly, and in this fan's opinion they tried something "cute" and failed miserably, which put a bad ending on an otherwise fun movie...
  16. Thanks for posting those pictures. What is UP with that Klingon ship? I would've rather they used the classic BOP design, that new design is FUG-LY...
  17. She claimed it was a job/hiring fair, but last job fair I went to started at 8, ended at 5 and the dress code required less skin and more polyester lol. But hey, I'm all for it-I would totally dig dating a girl in the industry...
  18. Because the best things we can remember come from the heydays of our youth. In any case, slightly jealous with this girl I've been seeing. She and a friend went to L.A. yesterday to attend what I'm guessing was some sort of porn/modeling job expo recruiting new talent, and on the way they stumbled upon the red carpet premiere of the Star Trek movie, complete with William Shatner and the current cast of Enterprise crew. As she puts it: "ZOMG I WAS LIKE-10 FEET FROM CHRIS F**KING PINE AND HE'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOT!!!!!!!!11111" Girls have all the luck man...
  19. You're the man 'Wes. I wish I could understand what's happening lol...
  20. Girl's got hips...
  21. Well I might check it out at midnight, but the whole wait-in-front-of-a-theater-for-hours on premiere night novelty has worn off on me...
