  1. I agree with you on the CGI bit; as soon as they started that crap in '2 Fast the series left a bad taste in my mouth. For me, the "special effect" of blocking out the machine that allowed Dominick's Charger to do a wheel stand in the first movie was already too much for me. It's funny, but when Fast and Furious, movie #4 came out, they said to "forget" about 2 Fast 2 Furious because it was lowly regarded but then they came out with Fast 5, which brought up more questions about continuity by bringing back Tyrese Gibson and Eva Mendez. Also, are you sure about the amount of CGI in Fast 6? I'm pretty sure that opening race with Vin and Paul, the race between the Day-clona and Michelle, obviously the plane sequence and even the first chase sequence were mostly done by CGI. If I'm wrong I pre-emptively stand corrected...
  2. Depends on how much you love that particular figure. If funds are an issue I would avoid variants so I could keep my collection diversified. BUT, if your mouth waters at the mere thought of a particular girl and her figure then give in to the lust and get the variant. I "sort of" felt the same way about that one Mai Shiranui statue from Max Factory; the standard red Mai is the woman of my dreams, but having her again in a black or blue was almost too impossible to resist...
  3. Spoilers? Truly disappointed with this movie, which was supposed to be the last in the franchise. I appreciate that they had plenty of tie-ins from previous Fast movies; bringing back old characters that helped to create a story that spans the entire timeline of the series. However, the defiantly ridiculous stunt/action scenes and far too many implausible plot points just wrecked this film. Obviously, this story and others like it aren't Hamlet or Othello, but we have to draw the line somewhere. What I liked: *I absolutely love how this series started with a Dodge Charger, and ended with a Dodge Charger, one of the greatest cars ever built. *Liked how they tastefully handled the "two girls, one Vin Diesel" dilemma at the end. *The inclusion of past characters and other touches that verifies story continuity, as well as the emphasis of a group of people learning to call one another family. What I hated: *Despised the ridiculous stunt/action scenes that were too much for even THIS series. The original movie was great in that there was little to no CGI car-action; most of the races, crashes, etc were done with real cars and real drivers. *Secondly, they had said this was the last film but apparently they've left room to dilute what little good this series has to offer. *Finally, I absolutely HATE the introduction of this new character, the actor of which has been in the most brain-dead and ridiculous movies of all time. If you thought the 'Fast series was devoid of redemption the addition of "this guy" just damns the franchise altogether. Seeing my Fast & Furious shirt on the night of the premiere I was asked many times which movies were my favorite ones. If I had to rank them I'd have to say this: #1, #4, #3, #5, #2, #6, or The Fast and the Furious, Fast and Furious, Tokyo Drift, Fast 5, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Fast 6...
  4. Didn't even know about that-thanks for the heads up. On another note, anyone else here think that the mother of the sick child in the beginning of the movie, Nanzeen Contracter, was the hottest girl in the whole film? I thought she was adorable in 24 but now she's a little older and sexier; the boob-job certainly helped too...
  5. I went and saw this Friday. Good summertime action flick. Didn't think it was quite as good as the first, but a solid entry. I give it a B-. Benebict Mr. Badguy whatever his name is, is freakin awesome as is Peter Weller!
  6. ^^^That's a hot score man. The guy who didn't like the price probably doesn't like girls or something...
  7. Despite four trips to the theater to see the movie I have yet to see it in IMAX/3D; is it worth the trouble?
  8. If they try to follow the eventual breakup of Kirk and Marcus in TOS movies that's going to be one LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG and painful 5 year mission...
  9. No one said he was a hero, what he did was unconscionable, but he clearly wanted the Federation ready for conflict that WILL come. IMO what he did was no different than humans rebuilding and preparing the SDF Macross for combat along with a new generation of fighting mecha to prepare for the possibility of an alien invasion. As for the substance arguement, TOS and the other Star Trek shows had over 40 years to show off their substance and vision; in Abram's defense he's had roughly 5 hours to show us his. These new movies are meant to capture a new crowd of Star Trek fans, who might possibly be convinced to discover the "vision and substance" that classic Trek fans already know. Gotta look at this positively, guys...
  10. Right? But only when there's a major battle to be had. Every other time the Enterprise is in orbit there's PLENTY of other little ships flitting about, space docks, etc...
  11. I think Pierce fit the role of the suave and daring English super-spy better than Craig does, however Craig is a fine Bond in his own right. I think both are leagues beyond Connery's Bond; I don't think I'll ever understand what was so great about his particular Bond...
  12. Agree with that; I used to wear a TNG communicator-pin on my shirts on a daily basis; that stopped right around the time Enterprise came out as I felt the franchise was out of gas. Star Trek has been one lucky franchise, if you take a look at its history or do any background reading on Roddenberry. Then again, as someone else here mentioned, TNG didn't get interesting until Roddenberry lost control of it, more or less. I feel if he were alive today that he would cringe in agony in regards to anything DS9 and beyond and up to Abram's films, but quite frankly, Star Trek needed it. I didn't like the homage/twist/whatever but overall I think they've done a great job...
  13. DOH! Someone was paying attention. Well, maybe because rank and flagships seem to change hands on a daily basis, Starfleet figured to just leave it alone, lol...
  14. Oh wow I hope we didn't ruin it too much for you; go see it before you're totally turned off by the idea of seeing it...
  15. Agreed here as well. I've already seen it three times and will probably see it a fourth and last time in IMAX; I'm sure it's a gorgeous film in that format. In my fondest of dreams though, I would love to have Pine, Quintos and the rest of them on a 5 (or 3) year voyage/t.v. series so I could have the chance to bond with them as I did with Shatner, Stewart and all of their people. Don't know if 5 years of lens flare might ultimately blind me, though...
  16. Agreed. Guess I'll just build me another Galaxy Class model for nostalgia's sake...
  17. Excellent point, and it is my one glaring criticism of the movie; I was in love with it and enjoying it up to that point. I've seen WOK more times than I can remember, but "that scene" is one of the most poignant and moving scenes in my limited memory and opinion of films, and IMO they royally blew it. I would even wager that if I had never seen WOK I would have regarded Into Darkness' handling of "that scene" as sloppy, incohesive, almost laughable, especially when you consider the 'deus ex side of it. Another point is that we haven't had a chance to "grow" and explore those "strange new worlds" with Abram's crew because all we've seen of them is these two movies; nothing they do will match the connection and meaning of TOS and even TNG has with long time fans, as we've been enjoying their stories for YEARS. Again, TOS/Roddenberry die-hards will be grossly disappointed with this movie if they don't check their expectations at the door. This version of Star Trek is more like Star Trek: The Wrath of Glee than it is a proper homage to 'Trek of old but........that's how it was designed to be, and we need to either take it or leave it...
  18. Maybe he's over the whole thing already...
  19. I wouldn't bank on it. If there's one thing Star Trek 2.20 "You Can (Not) Redo" shows me is that NOTHING is sacred to Hollywood, including Abrams. Besides, Disney is out to capture the hearts and minds of all those who have escaped the influence of Star Wars and bring them to the Dark Side. Unfortunately, that type of persuasion may not bode well for SW purists. BTW, I was really looking forward to seeing Alice Eve but was sorely disappointed when I noticed that both of her eyes were always pointing in different directions every time the camera hit her face; it was almost as vomit-inducing as the enemy ships. The rest of her was fusion hot, though...
  20. That's my point as well; the movie had me rooting for it RIGHT up until the last stretch. LOL Funny you mention that, I was expecting a bionic-Rodan to come out as well. I thought that the banter and relationships between the characters was "cute" but forced, and I would think this would be noticed by new, old, and casual fans of Trek alike. It's also difficult for me to appreciate the characters when, for example, Kirk is completely reckless and without conscience unless something grave and disastrous happens, Spock just seems lost, dazed and confused about his entire life whenever he talks to anyone, etc; But again, it's the last part of the movie that really ruins what otherwise would've been an entertaining film...
  21. This film had me extremely entertained, loving every minute of it and missing my Next Generation uniform shirt, up until the last quarter of the film... Again, I love the idea of a "new" Trek for a new generation of fans, and I'm usually the first to go tell TOS die-hards to go sit in a corner and enjoy their VHS copies of the "good 'ol days" as the universe marches onward, but some things should be left well enough alone if you can't revisit them properly, and in this fan's opinion they tried something "cute" and failed miserably, which put a bad ending on an otherwise fun movie...
  22. Thanks for posting those pictures. What is UP with that Klingon ship? I would've rather they used the classic BOP design, that new design is FUG-LY...
