Independence Day: Resurgence, in theaters June 24, 2016
myk replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Count me in. Will they replace the squadrons of Earth-borne fighters with F22's or F35's? I remember thinking Margaret Colin was so beautiful back in the day...- 277 replies

I got the emotional side of it as well; they spent quite a bit of time showing Clark Kent as a completely lost and ostracized individual who just wanted to be accepted and use himself for good but couldn't because of what he was, what he represented. Agreed, I guess it was a missed opportunity. My thinking is that since they're just establishing Superman in this movie maybe they can chase down ideas like that one in the next film.- 442 replies

Meh, I'll watch it. I had always wondered about a follow-up to the first one. If I could give M7 a shot (which I couldn't even get through 5 episodes of despite being tied to a chair Clockwork Orange style) then anything gets a chance, IMO...- 371 replies

Just got back from a midnight showing. Ultimately, it had its moments but in the end it was a let-down. Then again, for the last few years I've been hoping for a sequel to 28 Weeks Later, and this was it!

You bring up a great point about the deconstructionist's point of view. Fewer people care about truth, justice and the "American" way these days, so to keep Superman aligned with those ideals may have alienated the "deconstructionists" point of view, which consequently why MOS had such a dark, gritty, grey feel to it IMO. As for the Kryptonian technology being unable to save them, that's a contradiction that's bothered me since the original. I haven't seen that movie in ages but I remember an advanced race of superbeing that for "some reason" weren't able to save their own lives. The "Lois thing" has always bothered me, whether we're talking about Superman past or present. I mean, I think if I had such abilities, with the world and the galaxy as my playground to literally do with as I see fit I suspect the last thing I would do is fall for a girl but; I would spend all of that free time moving mountains or flying around the planet or something.........again, Superman is just a fantasy of human beings so a romance is inevitable anyway. I actually didn't think Cavill was too buff-he looked.....healthy to me, and not overly developed, but that's just my opinion, I guess. Much like other stories that are being told with numerous volumes or sequels in mind, like this one, I typically find that first editions like MOS are somewhat lacking but rectify themselves in the future. The only movies I can think of off hand that unfortunately didn't get better with age is Ironman, Blade and.......Fast and Furious...- 442 replies

I always thought Superman Returns was a respectable movie, and I appreciate it as a "different" interpretation of Superman/Clark Kent that's more in tune with the classic Christopher Reeves performance....- 442 replies

I agree with the time-line jumping and the destruction porn, which doesn't really hold true to Superman's desire to save every human life; in the original Superman 2 isn't that why he retreated from Zod and his friends in the city? I thought the product placement was ridiculous with IHOP and 7/11 but I didn't let it get to me. Some people claimed the relationship between Clark and Lois felt rushed, forced and not deep enough but what were they expecting to see them do? Dinner, a movie, some hand holding and then penetration? I dunno, I liked it, but again MOS appealed to me on a personal level...- 442 replies

In regards to the story, I found myself agreeing with Zod's intentions. He sought to save what was left of the Kryptonian race even though, as he puts it, he should have done it years ago, implying that he allowed decadent and disconnected rulers to bring about the ruin of their race. Some people accused 'Shannon of being a bug-eyed, screaming maniac during his portrayal of Zod, and I respectfully disagree. He was forceful and determined, and I did not detect an ounce of bug-eyed megalomania at all. If you want bug-eyed megalomania, check out Raul Julia in the last performance of his life as M. Bison in Street Fighter; talk about ridiculous...- 442 replies

Man of Steel - Superman movie has a director

I think that's part of the problem. Robert Downey Junior as Ironman is THE BEST comic-book to big screen adaptation and performance, and all other such adaptations will be gauged accordingly. RDJ brings such life and energy as Tony Stark that you believe he IS Tony Stark; you can't say the same about any other hero/actor combination, Cavil and Superman included, although I absolutely enjoyed this movie. Additionally, although I appreciate the character, I and many others have always found Superman/Clark Kent to be a rather bland and boring character. I mean, he's perfect, in every way, and has to try to be imperfect as Clark Kent in order to live among us. Does anyone really care about a guy that's perfect? Typically that doesn't draw a lot of attention or even provokes engagement from viewers. But if we're talking about the genius, billionaire, playboy-philanthropist Tony Stark who's as flawed as his Mark 1 suit? Now you've got yourself a story...- 442 replies

I just saw it and I feel the same way. I think that anyone disappointed with the movie had expectations that are beyond the scope of any movie to move anyone THAT significantly. When was the last time any of you were "blown away" or won over that much by a movie? I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but it certainly doesn't happen often because people are difficult to impress and aren't easily won over by anything, anymore. Personally, I wasn't too fond of the jumping back and forth between past and present, but the portrayal of Clark Kent, from a young boy, to an angry teen, to an isolated and lost young man who eventually became Superman, was powerful, provocative and moving enough to have my attention riveted to the screen, in the hopes that I could experience the path that Kal-El took to becoming the Man of Steel. The action scenes were......."messy," if I can call them anything, but I wouldn't have expected anything more or less if Kryptonian super beings were to engage themselves in a battle to the death, therefore they made perfect sense to me. In any case, I plan to see Man of Steel more than once, as this movie struck a personal chord within me, but it would seem that it failed to do so in many others. Se la vi...- 442 replies

I don't know Bandai's schedule for previews, which is why I always click on this thread in giddy anticipation of whatever 'vids you post. I didn't know that the Andromeda kit we have is "shaped" wrong; that's a bummer but I hope to get to it someday, although I've had the kit for like 20 years, lol...

What the hey-I placed an preorder for a PS4 although I will understand if I don't get it right away because of new-launch-mania. In all honesty I can't remember the last time I played a game on my PS3-I think it's been years, but it has served as the heart of my entertainment center since I bought it new in '06. As far as I'm concerned that fugly black box really DOES do everything, and a refresh in the form of the PS4 at a VERY excellent price makes it a winner IMO; I didn't think twice about placing a preorder...
