The computer and electronics super geek thread

Wow, you really DO have the holy grail of t.v.'s; that thing's been the top of the chain since '08. Anyway thanks again for all of your input and resources; I've learned more from your posts than I have from anywhere else. I'm liking the 'Pan ST-60 even though it's 50% more than I'd like to spend. However, it has very high praise from its owners and CNET, which more than makes it worth the extra expense, IMO. Honestly, I don't really game on t.v.'s, that's what I have my Toshiba Qosmio X505-898 laptop for, but I just "liked" the idea of having a t.v. capable of twitch gaming. Actually, I'm a fan of 2D fighters so having a t.v. capable of supporting my consoles IS important, but honestly I can't remember the last time I played Capcom vs SNK 2 so it may be a moot point. At this point I may stop looking at input lag and just focus on picture quality, which changes the dynamic of my research completely. Question: if I were to link my laptop (that has no issues with lag of any kind) to any t.v. would the "input lag" issue be null and void? I'm assuming that the t.v. would just become a display and wouldn't have to process the actual game signal? I would prefer a plasma, but I can't really control the lighting levels in my living room which might make for a disappointing viewing experience. -

Gil Gadot? She's pretty but she's not WW quality. I don't want WW to be some buffed up thing either; muscular builds on a girl are a crime against newborn kittens and humanity..

				The Wolverine FILMS (X-Men Universe)
myk replied to antibiotictab's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Initial criticism of the film on a personal level is the villains: I didn't care about the summersaulting, cart-wheeling, ninja star throwing evil foot clan soldiers, the lame chick with the molting skin and bad breath, or the old guy in the Shredder suit. I was just not impressed. I truly enjoyed the first Wolverine movie though.. -

Agreed. What a waste of a movie. The story was so uninspiring that you couldn't help but be bored watching it... -

To begin with, I want to thank you guys for setting me straight on what to look for on a t.v. Additionally, I've learned that the single most important performance metric of a newer t.v. is contrast ratio. However, I read this about contrast ratio: "As mentioned, all manufacturers manufacture their numbers with little basis on reality, so spec sheets are out..." In other words, there's no set standard when it comes to broadcasting CR numbers, so I've gleaned that the best thing I can do is go off of in-store demo's (which are set up to fail) reviews and/or recommendations. There's quite a bit to read up on regarding contrast ratios, so I'll see what else I can learn and hopefully come up with a decision sometime this freaking century... -

No genius, have you? I would make the argument that it if isn't easier to carry the child it's certainly safer to carry the child that way. Furthermore, if you're being chased by flesh-eating zombies are you going to take the time to stop, set the seat down, figure out how to unbuckle the brat and then carry on again as the flesh-eating zombies are chasing you?

They don't like rear sights on thier weapons on that show. Also, why would that museum piece of a tank be in use? Are tanks like that one still in use today?

The computer and electronics super geek thread

Ok, it's time to get a new tv but I'm not sure which way to go. My main priority is the 50-55" screen size, the ability of the t.v. to keep up with FPS' and other fast-paced media like games and sports. Finally, I would like a total price of $1K or lower. With this in mind I figured the obvious choice was plasma, but I'm told that's a negative because I can't control the lighting in my living room very well and that the plasma's screen would get wiped out. Is this a reasonable set of criteria? Should I stick with plasma and try to manage the lighting issue? If not, what LED/LCD's am I supposed to be looking at? I see a lot of LCD/LED's rated at 120hz, only to read that they can't keep up with games, sports, etc. Hell, I've even read reviews on 600hz plasma's that can't perform either. I thought I had this all down but when I consulted with Cnet I saw a list for the "top 20 t.v.'s for gaming," which confused me even more because the t.v.'s they listed were ranked high for frame rate performance, but in their individual reviews they more or less said the frame rates weren't adequate. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57589240-221/best-low-lag-hdtvs-for-serious-gamers/ I don't get it! In any case, thanks in advance guys... -
Watch the 4th one and leave it at that; the 'Fast series/story does not need anything beyond the first and fourth films. You can watch the fifth film if you're feeling generous, and the third one if you like the idea of a "Macross Plus" type of side-story, but that's it...

Here's one annoyance: If you want to eject your current disc you have to navigate through two menus to do so on the PS4; with the PS3 I just hit the eject button on the remote or tap the eject part of the control panel. The fancy-pants PS4 is devoid of anything on its front other than two USB ports so off to your controller to press buttons you go. My grievances are minor, petty ones, especially when you consider I was fortunate to be able to buy one, but still...
